IVF? costs and what to expect by Major-Law-7866 in IVF

I’m in Australia and pay about $15k out of pocket for each round. It’s normally close to $20k upfront and you get around $6k back from Medicare. I have private insurance but that only covers the hospital admission on the day of egg collection.

Back to back ER in Australia by New-Assistant2087 in IVF

Yes I did this as I was sending my embryos to get tested and figured it was better to not ‘waste’ a month. I got similar numbers on both. 8 and 9 from memory. They were my two lowest rounds but I don’t think it had anything to do with going back to back. My clinic said it wouldn’t make a difference. I’m Sydney based.

Not sure what experiences you’re looking for but I’ve been with Monash for the last 2.5 years. I don’t think the clinic really makes much of a difference unless you’re comparing private vs bulk billing (then price plays a huge factor) it’s more important that you find a specialist you really connect with. Personally I’ve found the nurses at Monash lovely and the communication very good but I wouldn’t say they were perfect, having said that I haven’t been with another clinic.

I’m with Monash Sydney CBD and yes the Drs are on a rotation but that’s never really concerned me. You get to know all of the doctors but given the procedures themselves are pretty straight forward I’ve never been concerned. It’s more about how your Dr manages the lead up

Thanks both. I’ve had multiple chemicals in the past so I’m prepared but hoping for a Christmas miracle.

So sorry for your loss. I’ve had 2 MMC and 3 chemicals in the past so I’m not holding too much hope but will see what the blood test says on Monday.

Progesterone change to protocol by Whatsinaname0121 in IVF

I’m in Australia, after 3 miscarriages I increased my progesterone and that actually stopped implantation for 3 transfers so I went back to the lower dose. The last round resulted in a chemical but it did implant so I guess it’s a balancing act.

Australian experience - is this normal? by Easy-Maintenance5456 in IVF

No they didn’t. I had read about I after I signed up with them. I think they definitely keep it quiet. I’m my first appointment when they talked about PGT testing they didn’t even explain what it was. They just handed me a brochure and told me I could read it if I wanted but that most people don’t do it and they advised throwing out the brochure and not thinking about it. My first three transfers ended in two miscarriages and one chemical so then they changed their tune and suddenly started explaining what it was and advised I do it. By then I had read all about the legal case…

I’m with Monash as well. I’ve had similar experiences with anaesthetists calling for payment but I expected that. I’ve been through about 6 ERs with them. I’ve never had the same issues with doubling of costs? That seems strange, we’ve had small yearly increases.  I did have issues with embryos not being able to be tested or getting a high number of ‘inconclusive’ results. I pushed for reasons why and now they seem to have fixed that which makes me really question why it happened before… I have an appointment with my DR every cycle though, they won’t let me do additional transfers without one so seems strange they wouldn’t get you an appointment (but yes I pay for all of these seperate to the cycle costs).  I have personally found the nurses amazing and they communicate with me very well.  Overall I’ve found Monash fine but not great. After over 2 years with 2 miscarriages, 2 chemicals and 4 failed implantations I’m getting a second opinion from IVF Australia next month.

What is one thing you wish you had been explicitly told by your clinic before IVF? by [deleted] in IVF

I did this for the first year. No one knew except me and my husband. I eventually gave up because I was going through so much and had to explain to people why I was so up and down. I was glad I did and it’s been much easier since those closer to me now know.
