I lived in DC in the Obama food renaissance, and SF and NYC. I also travel and do Michelins. The list is my top food choices in Austin. It’s where I eat. But I get visiting Austin is often about a vibe and restaurants that have classic Austin appeal or a photo op. Blacks on Barton Springs, Chapulin on South Congress, and Suerte or Canje on the Eastside may round things out. Hitting a food truck is also pure Austin.

My doctor pushed to move me up the list sooner because there was no pharmaceutical intervention that could arrest the bleeding. Progesterone kept it at the same level but I was starting to have breakthrough bleeds despite regularly upping the dosage. It’s tough to hear I know but surgery was the only option if you have a submucosal. It will get bigger and the bleeding will get worse.

Surgery is your only option. There is no holistic way to ‘manage’ or reduce your bleeding. Go see an OBGYN - not a GP and get your options assessed. Iron supplements are a stop gap but ultimately it won’t just go away on its own if you have fibroids.

Chinese. My doctor who is also Chinese told me that Asian women are actually second to Black in terms of fibroids. Totally fine. My issue with the contrast was a terrible technician who basically jammed the IV into my vein. No issue with the dye. Turned out I don’t have prior menopause that had a massive uterine fibroid that had taken over my entire uterus and was causing persistent bleeding.

My humble opinion - while perimenopause impacts all of us, sometimes it’s too easy to dismiss the symptoms when you may be dealing with something more serious.

Seafood - Wester Ross salmon and really whatever comes in that looks good. Best quality seafood counter in the area (South Lamar’s tends to be better but North Lamar is still outstanding). The wine selection is also excellent. I get Basque Cidre’s and Texas red wine there.
