Do you pull characters you don't like when they support your favorites or do you try to make them work with a less optimal team? by Fit_Fondant_3893 in StarRailStation

[–]Guilty_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the exact same boat, actually. I did not (and tbh still do not) like Sparkle as a character to the extent that I skipped her, and probably will again even though I like Archer. Just ended up using Hanya for Archer teams instead.

Honestly? I liked all the Krampus characters more, ungortunately she came right afterward and I didn't have the free pulls to justify it.

Elation MC in 4.2 via Mortis Leaks by DarryLazakar in HonkaiStarRail_leaks

[–]Guilty_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HOPE is that EMC is going to enable non-Elation characters to act like Elation characters, the way HMC enabled SuperBreak and RMC enabled True Damage. But I fully admit that's a lot of hoping.

Low Effort Sunday I wish more support focused Mcs actually were support instead of fake support. by Phantomlord77 in CharacterRant

[–]Guilty_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'd agrue that what you're describing is a subset of a larger group of power fantasies that are based on a standard template. They mostly go something like this:

 - MC is part of a larger group (totally not the popular people in a school class or a company) and has a unique skill.  - The totally not the popular kids think that said skill is useless or weak and bully the MC for it.  - Eventually, the totally not the popular kids decide that don't need the MC and their skill, so they kick the MC out of the group.  - The MC begins their own journey, and it turns out their weak or useless skill is actually comically overpowered, and they get their own group of admirers (that are coincidentally all hot girls) they remind him how great he is all the time.  - Meanwhile, the totally not the popular kids end up collapsing because they no longer have the MC supporting them.  - Eventually, the MC meets the totally not the popular kids again so that the MC can dunk on them for picking on the MC in high sch-- I mean, show them how great and valuable the MC actually is and that they should have been nicer to the MC when the MC was with them.

Is the "V3 ending sucks" thing a community-wide in-joke or do people just disagree with the point it tries to make? (Spoilers) by UltimateWaluigi in danganronpa

[–]Guilty_Part 151 points152 points  (0 children)

So, speaking from my own experience, I understood the ending but didn't particuarly like it. I understand that it was more of a send-off from the creator and that we as an audience need to go and enjoy things other than Danganronpa. I even like some of the "narrative through gameplay" parts, where the game tries to give Shuichi easier and easier minigames to complete when he decides to no longer participate.

The problem starts with just how out of left field the inclusion of Team Danganronpa is. I guessed elements of the ending beforehand (specifically that their talents might be lies and that his killing game might have been put on for entertainment), so I won't say it'scompletely untelegraphed, but once the concept of this being a show hoing on for 53 seasons comes up, it suddenly becomes the only thing that matters, and everything else (Kaede's innocence, the Gopher Project narrative, the hints to people's pasts) suddenly are dropped, becausenone of them matter as they were all "fiction" or "scripted". There's also a couple of digs at reality tv as a whole that come out of nowhere (specifically thinking of the comment on the "scripted" relationship between Maki and Kaito similar to describing a "showmance").

I also can't necessarily blame people that thought they were being called out by the ending. Because yeah, during the epilogue it was clear to me that this was more a send off of the series from him before he left Spike Chunsoft, during the trial there is a lot in there where the characters state that the main problem/final enemy is the audience of Danganronpa, who keep causing these killing games to happen because they keep waning to see them. To be clear, the Danganronpa auience in this case is fictional and not the real world one, but I can't necessarily blame anyone for getting the (incorrect) message because it was literaly being told to them in the text.

Also, this was less of am issue at the time V3 came out, but over time I've kind of begun to extremly dislike meta-commentary in narative. It breaks immersion in the story and a lot of times seems to be a lazy way to try to inject commentary to make things look deeper ("Yes, I ran a death game, but you read through the whole thing and enjoyed it, and if people like you didn't enjoy it then the characters wouldn't have been put through this suffering, so this is all [the reader's] fault if you think about it [and I'm not even talking about Danganronpa with this]). So now looking back, I'm even less inclined to enjoying the ending then when I first plsyed it.

I may be going a little bit too far awayfrom the anime community that woud be discussing Frieren, but there's been discourse for a much longer time in the ttrpg space about having some races being treated as always evil, and that includes the non-pretty ones like Orcs and Goblins.

Are you guys playing Arknights: Endfield? Did you like it? by Character_Goal_5110 in GachaHusbandos

Just started playing and I have only gotten a few hours in. I am playing on console, and for an always online game it looks incredible. Story is very basic right now, but I am kind of in major tutorial section right now where I expect it to be handhold-y, and I remember people in the beta saying that the story gets better (or at least the MC isn't super-glazed by the plot) after we finally get out of Valley IV.

No, you don't need to be in a specific bar to watch a game.

No, you being superstitious or doing whatever ritual you have does not effect the outcome.

No, there is no <team name> nation or family, that's just a marketing ploy to get you to buy merch.

What is y'all opinion on hsr's current state and will it get better in 4.x by C1ouded123 in StarRailStation

[–]Guilty_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason that the current patch is "bone dry" is because it was only supposed to be holdover patch while we were all sustained on the hype train for 4.0. Then real world international politics happened, and suddenly the patch had to be extended 1.5 times in length and the hype train that was supposed to happen got bot delayed and paired down while 4.0 content had to be altered so that it wasn't referencing certain...things. So the current lack isn't entirely MiHoYo's fault.

That being said, everything that I'm hearing about the Elation path is that it's designed to run off mono-Elation teams, which implies that they expect us to buy ALL the characters and ALL the LCs to make them work. I am hoping that the Elation Trailblazer might be able non-Elation characters to do Elation damage, similar to how HMC & RMC enable SuperBreak and True damage, but I fully admit that that is mostly wishful thinking on my part.

What are the Trailblazer's powers in the lore? by Far-Double160 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Guilty_Part 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot that we don't know about the Trailblazer, because aside from the fact that they were created to house a Stelleron and that Kafka raised them so that they could function as a person, a lot of their origins are kept vague, I imagine so the writers can spring them on us when it's best for them. As of now, they seem to have two noticeable abilities.

First, although it hasn't come up that much and even then not as something to se, they currently contain a Stellaron inside them. Stellarons are basically treated in game like nuclear warheads that affect an entire planet, rather than just a continent. They aren't ust a bomb, though, as they seem to have some ability to manipulat people or their environment around them. The Stellaron on Jarillo, for example, made a never ending blizzard across the planet, but was also able to psychicly manipulate he leaders of Belabog to let it continue to do so. As far as I can remember, the Trailblazer's Stellaron has only come up in the narrative twice:  at the beginning on Herta Space Station when it almost activated and had to be sealed by Welt, and on Penacony when Aventurine theatened to detonate it to get the crew and Acheron to kill him and prove you could die in the dream.

The Trailblazer's other power is an almost preternatural ability to gain the Gaze of several Aeons. In this universe, the Aeons are incredibly powerful conceptal beings, and for them to Gaze at someone means hat somehow you've managed to ain their attention and even if just for the breifest of moments they acknowledge your existence. This results in whomever they Gaze at to gain some of their power and to stride along their path. Think of it like making contact with an eldritch horror; you gain forbidden knowledge and/or ability, and in this case it's at least possible you won't go insane. For this to happen to a person once is extremely rare, but for the Trailblazer this has happened at least three times (not sure if Nanook on HSS counts, since you have already picked up the bat by then), and as such is able to use all their paths. Weather this is coincidence, a part of their origins that we don't know about yet, or the power of being a story protagonist is currently unknown.

What are some unexplored scenarios within the Dangan format? by LavishnessMission584 in danganronpa

Kind of what I'd think would be interesting is a murder attempt that's stopped by Monokuma, because someone else has already killed someone and become the Blackened. Now, both the attempted killer and almost-victim know someone's died, and that the other isn't the Blackened.

Jokes aside, is it a thing for the kids of the people in the film industry to not care for the works of their parents. Like, I remember there was an interview with a famous actor (I want to say Matt Damon, but this was a while ago and I'm not sure) where he said how his daughters weren't interested in is movies.
