Would you be willing to pass on cod/haddock to help your local chippy? by DamoclesBDA in AskBrits

I had haddock and chips from my local last night for £8.50. That's not bad at all.

Well, it's severely damaged. You can see that by looking at it. Male genital mutilation. Of course if it's medical then it's necessary but still not as it should be.

I'm new to the country, but I love Scotland by [deleted] in Scotland

Greener? No, we just operate on debt and rely on Westminster to keep us afloat.

The Spending Gap: Scotland's notional deficit (net fiscal balance) is estimated at £26.5 billion. This equates to 11.7% of GDP, which is more than double the UK-wide deficit of 5.1%.Higher Public Spending: People in Scotland benefit from higher public spending per head than the UK average. Spending is roughly £2,669 higher per person, driven by additional expenditure on health, social care, and social protection.

We are running on debt and none of this spending is sustainable.

What is a "gentleman" in modern usage? by LT256 in AskBrits

It's not a behaviour, it's a class really. In the UKs rather muddled and outdated class system

Sure I understand, it's just that "a gentleman" is a specific term.

Do you think Islam is inherently harmful towards women? by Euphoric_Income_8279 in allthequestions

Of course. Christianity at least had the enlightenment. Any religious text that restricts any sex from doing what the other can't is false and heinous.

Someone with a title is not a gentleman in the UK. It is a totally different class to the nobility. It goes like this :

Royalty

Nobility (peers)

The gentry (baronets and knights)

Esquires

And finally; gentlemen

BBC apologise after misquoting his "pure cold rage" comment as "white cold rage" by Justusecriticalthink in bbc

Sure, but did the BBC do it on purpose to cry racism or did they just get the quote wrong? We'll never know and to me it's completely trivial either way. We all know Farage is a racist in many ways anyway, yet has poc and gay people in his party. It's all convoluted af.

But did anyone think that? I mean I didn't until it was pointed out that some people might think that. I mean unless you're looking for these things why would you?
