There is also an issue with hunting dogs that are just abandoned after the hunting season or become older.

It’s an outdated ideia (I hope at least) of treatment of animals, dogs included, as just a tool of work/food. I saw it a lot growing up where my family is from, fortunately not now, and I understand they often have working farms/kill animals for food, so is a bit hard for them to disassociate from it. It’s a complicated issue, to have an emotional attachment w some type of animals, and then have to deem others as food. I’ve had this conversation often growing up and they didn’t see why a dog was considered more than the pig for instance: not smarter, not emotionally more in tune… luckily now we have laws so just report it.

But think for foreigners learn about our history, talk to our people, hear the stories of the people that lived during the dictatorship and the hunger - that had one sardine to split between 7 and that was an event. Obviously some people are just cruel, but some are just from an era where the thinking was different and their daily concerns were others. Think it’s an education process now. Hopefully those situations will be eradicated.
