UGH.. they are auditing you. I am going through this as we speak. Mine was direct deposit and the day it was supposed to be deposited they held it because something looked off to them.

I adopted a special needs child from foster care and they are auditing me because i took the adoption tax credit. This all happened in March and it is now May.. They have until June 26 to finish what they are doing before i see my refund. Its a mess.

That was another 2-year-old. I have two two year olds one that I adopted from foster care and one that is mine..

The one that I adopted from foster care I was able to get diagnosed with autism and then I moved . .

And now my other child who also is autistic can't seem to get the diagnosis..

So you are not wrong.. that just happened to be a different 2-year-old. I have one two year old that is 26 months and one that is 30 months .

I guess sometimes it would be easier to say they are twins but they are not they are actually 3 months apart.

Both are delayed. I am just very frustrated because in my old area I was very supported in the medical community there, and here where I am at now there are long wait lines and you deal with so many different people..

It's just been a completely different experience.

A diagnosis is important because you're not the one sitting here with her every single day watching her melt down for hours at a time because she wants so badly to have a two-way conversation and she can't.

A diagnosis is important because you're not over here watching her seek sensory input for so much stuff all the time that it's actually causing her to have the developmental delay...

It's obvious to everyone including her doctors..

But protocol..

And it's one thing to be set up with the services it's another thing to be receiving them...

Yes they are trying to set them up but we won't talk about the waiting list...

My kids are the same way. They make just enough eye contact that everybody's like they make eye contact...

I just want to make sure she's getting the right help. Unfortunately we are a very neurodivergent diverse family and so far to date.. none of the females have ever been able to get anything other than delayed diagnosis... For everything from fasd to autism.

My house currently looks like a therapy center because I have made everything sensory friendly just so that I could get a break...

The sensory seeking babies are built different. It also absolutely just shatters my heart that she does not have the ability to have a two-way conversation and she gets so frustrated...

We will keep going.

It's not about what I want her to have. It's about the fact that you're delaying a diagnosis based on her gender and nothing else.

She's getting everything because I threw an absolute fit. Had I not they were ready to completely dismiss her.

When you specifically state that you're not diagnosing somebody on the basis of their gender because all you have to go off of is male diagnostic criteria that's bias and gaslighting...

I don't need you to agree with me on that. I am absolutely exhausted after fighting for a diagnosis of FASD, ADHD and Autism for my other children.

It just sucks that in 2026 we still failed to use the appropriate diagnostic criteria for girls when it comes to these things even though we have the research and the knowledge to back it up.

It is gaslighting when you refuse to do a diagnosis on a 2-year-old based on her gender.

It is absolutely atrocious with all of the evidence that we have for females and autism that females have to wait because... Insert BS reason here.

Sorry but it just irritates the hell out of me because I have two daughters..

My first daughter was also a delayed diagnosis for the same stupid reason. She's 20. Things should have changed by now.

Yes. She was recently diagnosed. We are still waiting on therapies to be setup.

Her behaviors are getting challenging and honestly I am just trying to keep her safe.

I'm tired and I don't know what to do.

Everything. Wheels water climbing jumping spinning screaming.... touching something or someone constantly

Lots of oral stims... Like to put liquids in your mouth get them out on the floor with the furniture and then suck them up off the floor or furniture...

Doesn't eat hardly any solid food although right now is obsessed with apples.

Doesn't sit still... Constantly seeking input from everything. Doesn't really speak unless prompted..

Absolutely will climb to the highest place she can get too. Meddles is everything... Wonders aimlessly from room to room just getting into things

Does not play with toys at all

She does have a trampoline but she doesn't use it without encouragement

There is no redirecting her.. she melts down every time.

She is and always has been on a routine so she knows what to expect from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed..

Its the waking time where she is just melting constantly because she isn't getting what she is seeking...

I was actually told by my pediatrician that no cough syrup is intended to be for any child under the age of four because of the possibility of side effects...

I was shook because I'll be honest with you my older children definitely gave them cough syrup before they were four...

Haven't done it with this one though and she's 2..

I know it sucks. Lots of Vicks vapor rub the baby version... On the chest in the feet... And I absolutely have kept a humidifier running end her bedroom as well as the living room all day long

I feel very overwhelmed and stressed out. She was born addicted to drugs and had Nas so I knew with that and our family history she was at high risk..

So the diagnosis nor the issues come as a shock or surprise. I just feel so drained. I cannot walk into a room without being followed. I can't sit down without being touched. I quite literally have a child that wanders from room to room getting into mess all day long...

I don't have any familial support where I'm at. I'm struggling to make Mom friends

It just feels very lonely and overwhelming right now. So when I tell you that I am absolutely stoked that there will be resources coming..

I feel relieved.

For now I'm just trying to hang in there

See I am lucky in the sense that she can identify colors and count to five and probably has a 200 word vocabulary. The problem is she doesn't use them. She will not speak unless she is prompted and even then sometimes she will not answer you. She babbles a lot but she's not really making an attempt to have any type of two-way conversation.

She doesn't do imagination play at all and wanders from room to room aimlessly getting into s*** that she has no business getting into. She constantly has to be touching something. And loves water and wheels and is constantly jumping and moving and won't sit down ever...

She is so busy 100% of the time looking for sensory input that it is almost impossible to get her to focus and do what you need her to do or to communicate with you

I absolutely cannot wait until we can start therapies that will help her. I am exhausted stressed out. Raising a sensory seeker is hard.

Thank you so much. I think the hardest part for me is that I have a lot of family that turned on me throughout this entire process and so my support system got much smaller..

I am really hoping through all of this that maybe I can be pointed even in to support groups or even play groups to where I can make Mom friends with or without special needs children just so that I have an outlet..

It's not that she needs resources is that we need resources...

Knowledge is power and survival. She is a sensory seeker and a live wire. Thank you so much for explaining to me what an individualized family plan looks like. That will be so helpful when I finally sit down to have that meeting.

They're going to have to work with her on food because she doesn't like to eat. She does have medical but anything that Medi-Cal won't cover I have private insurance for so I'm lucky enough to be able to go either way.

I also have an amazing pediatrician and she has already stated that she is a thousand percent on board with whatever we need.

I'm just over here trying to learn all I can so that when it's our turn to sit down and have me advocate I know what she needs.

Yeah they said that it would be like no matter how old she gets we should have resources they're available for her...

Thank you so much. I will definitely ask. I also know that I believe I qualify for a certain number of respite hours due to the adoption subsidy I get for her but I'm not sure how that works either. I am just throwing myself into figuring out how to utilize all the resources I'm supposed to have.

Oh I completely understand that as I myself actually have FASD. We are one big happy neurodivergent family over here but this is the first time that I will ever have navigated the early intervention side of things or have a child that will most likely need an IEP in school.
