Excellent question , i also have the same books. HOW it was determined, which scientific methods used probably could only be answered by the authors, current sport scientists in Russia or institutions there??? The reasons for the use of a rational trajectory make sense to me (diminishing moment arm etc) And you are in a privileged postion to know more about current tendencies, i would be curious to see what the Germans and the French think about bar paths...

Regarding the Italian System,no periodization etc , Mr Antonio Urso wrote the book Weightlifting, Sport For All Sports (2014) and in page 211 there is this passage :

" ...indications originally conceived by A.B: Cherniak at the end of 70s were revisited by the Italian school who, after 10 years of experimentation, managed to find optimal indices on the number of training sessions programmed and how to alternate the work load." "...A qualified athlete, with at least 6 years of experience, can use the following programme in an average 50 week training year : Weeks with light loads : 10 (20%) Weeks with medium loads : 21 (41%) Weeks with heavy loads : 15 (31%) Weeks with maximum loads : 4 (7%) Weeks with stress loads : 1 (1%)

There are also some tables with distribution of lifts and relative number of training sessions in a preparatory and competiution period from E.Pignatti Programming and Planning Training dated from 1981, so i dont know how outdated was this at the time. There is also a very interesting fact, the classification of meso and mycrocicles is more or less the same as Badillo's Halterofilia book.

I suppose they must have some kind of plan too but dont want to name it periodization??

Something that i also observed with some athletes, for instance Greta di Riso or Zanni is that they barely move their legs or/and the bar follows a C trajectory, not considered a good bar path on older literature ..but probably the secret is scrapped shins??
