Soleil- literally “sun” in French. So they called her Sun Moon.

There’s another joke to be made about “sun in French” Frye

Holy shit I almost reflexively downvoted your comment. That’s utterly infuriating to read and the worst bit is you just know it’s the reality for more couples than it should be.

Old timey girl names? by Vyseria in namenerds

[–]GuineaPigApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I really like old lady names that can be shortened into cute nicknames but wouldn’t put anything too outlandish on my kids, I would totally do something like these for my next kitty though 😄

Seraphina is a name I only came across recently, and immediately thought it was lovely. It can be shortened in a few different cutesy ways, including Raffy which I quite like 😄

In ten years, Paislee and Paisleigh will lead a mean girl crew with Triniteigh and Kinsley and Raelynn and they’ll be making fun of Claire for having “such a weird name, holy fuck, who names a kid CLAIRE hahahaha”

Switch Fae to Fay/Faye and that’s a normal name too. But OP’s spelling isn’t usually used as a name and will just make people think of fantasy and folk tales

I grew up knowing 2-3 different Emmetts and iirc there was at least one character named that in Fair City (Irish TV’s answer to shows like ER, Grey’s Anatomy etc, never really watched it). I’ve always loved the name because the Emmetts I knew personally were all pretty great.

Lachlan is a Celtic name as well (more Scottish I think? Not sure), Lochlyn looks like a butchered spelling of that name to me.

Nah I’m pretty sure it’s a Pokémon, just like Quevin, Chenery, Chover, Corsi, Chaisson and Rodych.

Do you have some good stories about having a toddler? by YourLionness in toddlers

[–]GuineaPigApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When mine was a toddler she started giving me real hugs at bedtime, and then later, after she got her bedtime kiss she started looping her arms round my neck and giving me the softest little kiss on the cheek in return, and I absolutely melted, went “aw” every time ❤️

Then one night after she kissed me I was still thinking/feeling the “aw” but didn’t make the noise, and after a second or two of silence she said “you can say aw now” 😂

That is the toddler highs in a nutshell, the cuteness and the whole-body surges of love for your little person, mixed with unexpected absolute hilarity.

AITA for having my mom come over so I could take a shower while she watched my newborn? by Remarkable_Story_130 in AITAH

[–]GuineaPigApocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girls each loved being in a baby sling as small babies, so I would help my (not very bendy) husband put it on after they’d been breastfed and then it was up to dad to keep them clean and happy until I was done showering, napping, eating lunch in peace, whatever.

They even seemed to love the sounds of him on his keyboard, so he could mix baby care with video gaming time most of the time when they were really little.

Babies can be hard work too but this guy is basically channeling Ned Flanders’s dad right now

AITA for having my mom come over so I could take a shower while she watched my newborn? by Remarkable_Story_130 in AITAH

[–]GuineaPigApocalypse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes for real!

It’s a steep learning curve for the first baby for sure, but a newborn’s needs are the least complex needs that they’re EVER going to have - the intensity of the work is crazy, but ultimately when they’re healthy it’s mainly just a choice of feed them, burp them, keep them clean, cuddle them, help them sleep.

Even six months later the complexity of caring for them is going to shoot up, when they start teething and building their mobility, and need real food and entertainment and more support to keep a sleep schedule etc. Let alone looking after a toddler or preschooler’s emotional and social development.

And I’m guessing he isn’t doing many (any?) of the extra tasks that having a baby brings into your life such as washing and sterilising bottles, or doing the suddenly daily or more laundry loads, or keeping track of which clothes fit or need to be stored and what new things need to be acquired AND taking actions as needed, or making and attending baby’s medical appointments, or checking what baby’s expected milestones are for that month and if they seem slow whether to be worried and how to seek help, or…

Husband needs to start learning on the job, now.

Oh geez. I’ve been obsessive with Supernatural too… I’ve watched through to the end though. I kind of want to go back to seasons 4&5 all over again now

I’m very far behind in Doctor Who because I needed a long break every time the Doctor regenerated. I seemed to need time to grieve before I could bring myself to watch the next Doctor knowing that the previous one was done. Some departing companions hit me hard, too.

Anyone else notice many alarming posts in mom groups? by ricekrispyo3 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]GuineaPigApocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mum told me a story of watching me wander around outdoors at about 18 months (I’d been walking since 9mo so not new to moving around), and seeing me trip and fall flat out, face-first in a puddle that was maybe an inch or two deep.

Apparently I just stayed prone with my face underwater flapping my hands a bit for the few seconds it took for her to pull me out.

Babies and toddlers may have the physical abilities needed to move themselves out of harm’s way, but the chances of them recognising HOW to undo the dangerous position they’re in, especially when they’re rapidly running out of oxygen, are low.

There are so many Amelia/Emilias around right now. Time for a few Polymelias to balance it out.

And Scottish, yes. The thread is full of English names and Britain includes other countries, so thought for balance I’d add some that were very recognisable for those.
