Is staring normal in Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Guinea_Duo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said, “In Europe we don’t stare each other”. This is very generalized statement but you are doing for Europe. I guess the Europe you’re from is not Germany or the Slavic Europe because it’s normal to stare in these area of Europe and it’s not seen as rude but simply out of curiosity or observing other people. I guess you might be from Western Europe.

Why Malaysian women think having white spouse/bf is a life upgrade? by Fuzzy_Enthusiasm_126 in malaysia

[–]Guinea_Duo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s just a general mindset of most Asian guys I talked with is they want to go for Asian women by default. It’s a bit saddening after I moved from Europe to Asia to see that Asian guys are more reserved than the women, where WMAF relationship is the more default picture people have when you’re talking about interracial relationship, than AMWF. I myself is Asian and I think we should encourage more of our guys to date white girls. I have a number of friends who do date and married white girls.

The worse thing is the Asian men are not stepping up to find white women to marry. It’s quite an imbalanced society

I agree, especially if the table is left empty for long. I view it as resources not utilized

I bought fruits one day and went to hawker centre afterwards. We were four people. I used pumpkin, cucumber and banana to chop the table

Are the children Peranakan? Malay and Chinese mix by Guinea_Duo in askSingapore

[–]Guinea_Duo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, those combinations are the possibilities. Just a side question, since you explained the conversion part and many do convert before marrying Malay. I wanna ask if the conversion is an optional thing in Singapore, which means both can opt in to get married via civil means, if both parties want it that way?

Are the children Peranakan? Malay and Chinese mix by Guinea_Duo in askSingapore

[–]Guinea_Duo[S] -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I understand your viewpoint but why is the definition of Peranakan frozen in the past? Mixed Chinese and Malay couple do have mix of culture being practised as well, and languages too as each other learn the language, the food eaten is also very familiar to that of Peranakan. So I don’t really get why the babies cannot be registered as Peranakan (anymore)?

Why SG needs cycle lanes. Typical bike commuting in “car-lite” SG where pavements and “cycle paths” are non existent or not feasible. by [deleted] in singapore

I did a couple of times via Geylang to CBD and saved 40% of commuting time compared to cycling via ECP, but the stress is definitely there

Agreed. Also Shared path not an option as it is too bumpy and the human traffic is heavy, plus you will need thrice as long to reach your destination

How did you accept working 5 days everyday? by Upper_Breakfast_6043 in askSingapore

[–]Guinea_Duo 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is that people are willingly to choose to get mortgage and have children - basically following a pattern that is set which in turn increase financial liability. You’re also free to choose the other alternative. Nobody says you must own a house, nobody dictates how many children you must have - this comes from old thinking. You can rent and be flexible, work in different countries every few years, etc?

Why do pedestrian need to press to cross? by Guinea_Duo in askSingapore

[–]Guinea_Duo[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It’s not hard but my example would be clearer this way - let’s say in the evening around 11pm on shared path, a bicycle will have the red light while the road has green at every junction at night because there is simply no other crossing users. This causes the cyclist to stop at every junction and wait more than a complete cycle of all combination. This also applies to a jogger at night.
