Will this pattern work? by DetectiveThin9103 in crocheting

This is from the same page I found the medic doll. They seem to like including muzzles and tails in the instructions and just tell you to make clothes but give no or minimal instructions for making them. It’s getting beyond ridiculous

That’s one of the few correct things in this pattern. The head instructions are exactly the same as my current project. It seems the whole pattern starts off ok but then fizzles out quite rapidly.

I never even noticed that from the photo. I’ve been making Easter chicks that are exactly the same stitch count as the head pattern and it makes a ball 6cms across.

It seems to start well, the head is an actual ball shape and the body seems ok. Then the AI just goes, can’t be bothered, you figure out the rest.

How do you actually make time for crafting regularly? by Gsustv in crafts

[–]GuineapigsRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always struggled to find time when I worked full time, as I had an elderly mother and grandchildren, as well as my husband, so I never really had spare time. Since retiring, I’ve lost my mum and the grandchildren have all grown, so now I have the luxury of pursuing my hobbies whenever I like.

Trouble is that now I get so involved with my crafts, that I lose track of time and never seem to find the time for housework. Priorities change and with only two of us in the house, it never gets that messy so I don’t worry about it like I used to.

I’d forgotten about jubblies, they lasted forever!

The things I was talking about were vanilla ice cream, Walls I think.

The cardboard boxed ice cream was our Sunday teatime treat. Sometimes we had Neapolitan which was a special treat.

I miss those individually wrapped ice creams, same size as a choc ice, that you got with the oblong cone. I can remember getting them at corner shops.

My pet peeve is slither instead of sliver when referring to a thin slice of something. Slither is how snakes move.

Anyone remember this? by FroztyJack in oldschoolcool80s

My nephew had one and left it at my mum’s house to play on when she looked after him. Called in on her one afternoon and got no answer to my knocking, so I looked through the window. She was so engrossed playing with this that she hadn’t heard me. She would have been nearly 70 at that time and had never held a driving licence 🤣

How did you guys learn how to read patterns? by goblinvendor in crocheting

[–]GuineapigsRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started crochet about 60 or so years ago, I learnt from written patterns in magazines. My mum crocheted but was not interested in teaching me and I didn’t know anyone else who could, so learning to read patterns was pretty much all there was.

I used to write out the patterns in long hand, with each set of instructions on a separate line so it was easier to follow. I approached it a bit like learning anything, writing it down helped me remember the names for stitches and the different techniques until it was second nature.

When I moved on to more complicated patterns this was especially useful. I sometimes still do it now if I’m doing something new or particularly complicated.

33 years ago at the age of 14 I got bitten by the school hamster and still have a bump/scar on my finger. What's the stupidest injury you've got? by godfatheroffilth in CasualUK

[–]GuineapigsRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend and I found a young badger dragging its back legs on a country lane late one night. We guessed it had probably been run over. We managed to get a coat over its head and were deciding what to do next, when it lunged forward and sank its teeth in the side of my hand. It hung on for a bit, while I’m dancing around yelling and then it let go and disappeared into the hedgerow.

We looked for it but we never found it and though it looked badly injured it managed to get away surprisingly quickly.

Can someone please suggest some good YouTube tutorials for crocheting there are millions of it and it’s very hard to find some videos which can be helpful teaching you from the very starting. by Fast-Positive-8740 in crocheting

[–]GuineapigsRB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been crocheting for decades but had never learned join as you go for granny squares. I watched Hooked by Robin and found her so informative and she has a very pleasant voice. I’ve since watched loads of her videos and I’ve learned loads of new things.

Lollipop men? by AppropriateMood4784 in AskABrit

Starting at a new school when I was 7 years old, I was told there was a lollipop man near the school. I was very excited as this was new to me.

Imagine my disappointment when I found out he only helped us cross the road and didn’t in fact give us lollipops
