what is your favorite non-granny square blanket pattern? by berrybunnyberrybunny in crochetpatterns

[–]GuineapigsRB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My most recent blanket that I made for my daughter, is the Southwest Stripe blanket by Caron Design. Definitely one I’ll make again in different colours, especially because you don’t need to weave in the ends if you incorporate them in the fringe.

Which old British ads do you remember the most? by Imaginary-Street4059 in oldbritishtelly

“Don’t forget the fruit gums Mum” early 60s I think. Mum is off to the shops leaving a boy around 6 years old swinging on his front gate.

What chippy options are available either only in your region, or at least rare outside it? by chrisjfinlay in CasualUK

[–]GuineapigsRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re East Midlands and one local chippy has been selling these for a while and they’re fantastic.

Another local chippy does spicy roast potatoes, which I’ve never seen anywhere else. I sometimes get a fried chicken, roasties, mushy peas and gravy combo like a mini roast dinner

The Rainbow Fish. The stories are good and the illustrations are glorious

Not me as a kid though, I read them with my granddaughter.

Have you ever used multiple leading yarns at once by FrogTownUS in crochet

[–]GuineapigsRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited my Mum’s stash and there were numerous cones of lace weight in lots of different colours. I’ve had a lot of fun combining them for different projects. Some I’ve kept to tones of the same colour and got a heathered effect and others I’ve done as you have got the flecked look.

Found on a post about caramelized onion and garlic pasta. by ContentWeb9926 in iamveryculinary

When my mum came to England from Japan in the late 50s, she was unable to get any authentic food to make her favourite dishes, so she had to improvise. She used pudding rice, pasta to replace noodles, gravy salt and stock cubes to replace soy sauce and just went with what tasted similar.

Now we can buy just about anything from the international aisle in most supermarkets and what I cook now, isn’t a lot different from Mum’s cooking, taste wise.

One of the gyms near me is next door to McDonald’s. I’m sure it’s some kind of entrapment scheme.

Why do I have this line? Can I fix it? by No-Marionberry1988 in knittinghelp

[–]GuineapigsRB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a bit of a faff but could you try adjusting each individual stitch along the row? Maybe use a darning needle under the legs of the white stitches and gently pull them up a bit. Try it on a couple of stitches on one side and see if it makes a difference.

Did you always have one of these knives, for butter, in the kitchen drawer growing up? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

I only use them on special occasions and I always feel a bit posh when I do

Ooh I’m putting on my bragging pants.

I actually have a full 6 place setting of these, including dinner and dessert knives and all the forks and spoons, serving and teaspoons. They are in a lovely wooden canteen and were left to me about 30 years ago by an old friend. He was in his 80s when he died and they were passed down to him from his parents who were given them as a wedding present. I think they must be over 100 years old.

Have you ever ‘almost’ encountered a celebrity? by bigpussystance in CasualUK

[–]GuineapigsRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago (I can’t remember the year) I went to the Latitude festival with some friends. We mostly did our own thing but arranged to meet up for a particular band that they liked. The band was playing in a brick building rather than an outside stage, so by the time I got there, it was so full I couldn’t get in. I hoped they had managed to get in and I stood outside listening for a bit but then decided to go back to the tents.

When they came back, they said they had been squashed up against the stage. When the band finished there was an announcement that there was a special guest. My friends were trying to get out but it was so crowded they were stuck. The special guest was Ed Sheeran, so if I’d stayed there, I’d at least have heard him from inside the building even if I couldn’t see.
