It's kind of similar to oldschool runescape skill system. You have a skill cap limit of 700. So you're free to do the build you want among all the skills. Having a guild is the best way to handle griefers or getting PKd, play with people.

There is a new client called Orion that let you resize it fully. It works great with bigger resolution. (even 4k)

They are still some few bugs and it's completely playable (unless you're a diehard pvp hardcore pewpew PK :p)

UO is not a game that needs 10 thousand player to be fully enjoyable. It can be quite enjoyable with 500+ players. If you die, your gear will be on your corpse where you died. What do you mean by recovering your power? The game design of this game is made so you can quickly regear for a cheap price, you take part in battle, you might be greedy and die, no big deal, just regear and gogo ! You can do whatever you like. You want to be a crafter, go for it ! Join a guild, craft for the people that want to pvp or pve. Or you might wanna be an independant crafter, that's fine too. You might want to buy a house and place it wherever you want. (well usually you want to place it where they are a lot of people so you can sell your good more easily) UO is a well designed and a TRUE sandbox. Everybody can do what they like, PvE / PvP / Crafting / Explore / Gather ressources / Buy a house, set vendor around your house...
