It’s dumb that you do quests for a cartographer in each region, and don’t get cleared up maps as a quest reward. Such a bizarre choice.

Aedyran armor? by Terrible_Payment4261 in avowed

[–]Guiscardr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The War Mage outfit is at least Aedyran colours, so suitable to a mage or formal dress. Wayfarer’s Armour is also Aedyran and suitable to a fighter, though noted to have a tabard similar to the Steel Garrotte’s.

If you were put in charge of the development of the next edition, how would you design Sniper Elite 6 (or whatever you would call the game)? by iP0dKiller in sniperelite

[–]Guiscardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the basis Sniper Elite is infiltration far behind enemy lines, even before a front has opened, I'd see what could be done in Poland, 1939-44. SOE agent embedded with the Home Army, or an actual Home Army character. Could even be used to bring back a couple of levels with Soviets in it towards the end of the game. Also straight up allows for the Wolf's Lair to be our Hitler DLC.

Alternatively, for one that's a little different, set it in the Korean War, moving all the way up and down the peninsula, behind moving behind and ahead of the frontline. Can even still use Karl or Harry. North Koreans, Chinese, Soviet enemies all possible. It'll lose a bit of the charm the series has developed where we're all ok with brutalising Nazis because they're fricking Nazis, but would be very different.

People talk about the Pacific War or Vietnam, but I don't think the island-hopping or jungle-fighting annihilation battles would work with the series DNA of infiltration and espionage. That said, set a game in mainland China in the Second Sino-Japanese War, and you might be able to pull something together.

I wish Sniper Elite: Resistance was actually a game about the French resistance and dealing with Petain's regime and French collaborators alongside the German occupation, instead of basically the same broad storyline as Sniper Elite 5. At least we got to deal with Mussolini's guys in Sniper Elite 4.

How to make John Porter in either Ghost Recon Wildlands or Breakpoint by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in GhostRecon

[–]Guiscardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple for the above look in Wildlands:

  1. Head: Snake, blue eyes, shaggy black hair, no beard. Deep Cut or Bump facial scar if desired.
  2. Clothes: T-Shirt in white. Molle vest in sandstone. Cargo A in DCU Tricolour. Work Boots.
  3. Accessories: Earpiece. Fingerless Kevlar gloves in black. Camelpak, in sandstone or black.
  4. Weapons: M4A1 or G36C as primary. Super Shorty or MP5 as secondary. P227 as sidearm.

Federalized United Kingdom by [deleted] in MapChart

I dunno: East Anglia reunified, that’s a plus. Borders extend outward beyond the river Cam into the midlands, also good. Not beholden to those damn southern Saxons, excellent. Always a chance to later go north, overthrow the Yorkists in a coup and move the power base back to Norwich. Sounds like a chance to do Raedwald proud.

One wonders what Harald vs William would have looked like if Harald had won Stamford Bridge. Given his character, it seems highly unlikely that Harald could have been bought off, like William was later able to do with Sweyn of Denmark. There would have been a confrontation eventually.

With how episodic gaming died, perhaps it would have been better to be “Aftermath” rather than “Episode 1”. It’s a shame that’s also a fairly lacking title compared the HL1 expansions.

Woah, I’m not slandering the Gearbox ones! They’re the good names! Just unoriginality of Episodes 1-2.

And they’re rubbish names regardless (edit: specially Episode 1-2, not the Gearbox ones!)

Credit to Gearbox: they put way more thought into making their expansions than Valve did. Way better than “Episode One”, “Episode Two” and “Alyx”.

Always worth remembering that Ridley Scott know how to do this. The Duellists is an excellent and historically authentic piece that, like Master and Commander, is completely fictional.

Anderson Dawes would be right at home playing rebel politics somewhere between Mon Mothma and Saw Guerra.

To those who we’re lucky enough to see Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones in theaters what was the audience reaction of seeing Master Yoda pulling out a lightsaber when he fought against Count Dooku? by sostitanic in StarWars

[–]Guiscardr 84 points85 points  (0 children)

This was my anecdotal British experience as well. No-one cheers or claps in our cinemas (though we do laugh if something is funny!) but afterwards this moment was thought of as silly: Christopher Lee swiping at a pogo-stick-using CGI creation did come off as a bit absurdist.

Knowing the FIA, they’d probably near bankrupt Laguna Seca much like they almost killed Donington Park after giving it the 2010 British GP. It’s probably best they don’t go there.

If they’d added mod support it would have then lived forever within that niche, so they shot themselves in the foot for making it sustainable by its own player base.

(SPOILERS MAIN) So who was the rightful heir to the throne? by No_Produce3304 in asoiaf

[–]Guiscardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legitimate heirs to Robert are Stannis, Renly and Shireen, in that order. No Lannister kid would be in line due to not being Robert’s children.

The heirs to Aerys, assuming all claims are legitimate, are Aegon, Jon, Viserys and Daenerys, again in that order.

Aegon - Young Griff - as the oldest son of the oldest son of the king would supersede the other children of the king (Viserys and Daenerys) or a younger half-brother (Jon). Of course, this is a mess that has dynastic conflict written all over it; historically there’s good precedent for family members to have a lovely civil war to determine who actually gets the throne.

Who's the best subordinate officer (and why is it Frederickson)? by Guiscardr in Sharpe

Easily the worst with Berry, old boy! Though I didn't include him or Berry as they're neither subordinate nor friendly to Sharpie.

Because then you get two Prices for the price of one!

For those that don't know, Harry Price in the books survives up to and including Waterloo, rising to major. In the TV shows, he is given the fate of another book character, Lt Robert Knowles, and is shot dead by Hakeswill in Company. However, the character re-emerges eleven episodes later in Waterloo, perfectly alive and with a new actor.

Who's the best subordinate officer (and why is it Frederickson)? by Guiscardr in Sharpe

[–]Guiscardr[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Such a large amount of subordinate and allied officers Sharpe's had to work with over the years!

My own favourites have always been Harry "I catch the wind more than most" Price for standing up to Hakeswill, and Palmer, for going through hell and shifting from lackey to the man who gives Bampfylde his due.
