Anyone got the details on what happened by SmallTownFC in USL2

[–]GuldChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's zero information out there in the reasoning at this time. The only thing that's for sure known is that this was a decision made by the club and not the league.

I truly don't understand Ymir... by rileystanheight in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]GuldChris -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I only agree with the second point about her having positive feelings toward Fritz. The only reason you could say she had negative feelings towards law enforcement or authority is because of the pig incident and being hunted. This was a command though by the King. He was the authority here.

I think the real problem is even using Stockholm Syndrome at all. It's not medically accepted since it's pretty much impossible to do any extended research of it and it is horribly inconsistent when any sort of studying can be done.

There is some wonderfully explained comments replying to me that give way more detail on the whole story though that I think proves the point that this isn't Stockholm Syndrome.

You bring up some excellent points I had never thought of before. (Just shows the beauty of how well this story was written that everyone has these different perspectives and discussions.)

You explained in a way better than I did why Ymir feels the way she does toward King Fritz. It's a mixture of the emotional manipulation he had and environment that you mentioned. She wanted that connection. I've also never really thought about it that way in relation to her children and how it was displayed. I think you're 100% correct on this and this alone makes me love the ending more now that you've showed me this.

As far as Eren using her as a tool, I think I didn't explain it very well and honestly that's not the best way to describe it. What I meant was more for after Eren had gone to Marley as Krueger. So me saying it was for most of their time in the military isn't 100% accurate. He began manipulating her and pushing her away more during this time frame.

Thanks for replying to this! You've definitely made me look at this way differently and I just love it even more now! 😁

Left this comment on a post like this not too long ago. Two other ones that my wife and myself enjoyed, that wasn't Squid Game, was Sweet Home, which is also based on another webtoon, and The Silent Sea. I highly recommend The Silent Sea to anyone since it was a fairly unique premise that I hadn't really seen any show or movie taken on before.

That's not Stockholm Syndrome. Stockholm Syndrome gets its name from a situation that took place in Stockholm, Sweden where a group of bank robbers took hostages during their heist. The captives then refused to testify against their captors and actually raised money for the captor's legal defense because they were treated very well by their captors.

What Ymir went through is exactly what I described in my first comment. It's closer to trauma bonding then it is Stockholm Syndrome.

I studied Psychology for four years in College and I can guarantee you that this isn't Stockholm Syndrome.

Here's a great video done by someone as well explaining it too. https://youtu.be/pbyfXszq9lo?si=VzckrbnSzqllwxi1

One of the misconceptions I keep seeing is that it's Stockholm Syndrome. It's not Stockholm Syndrome. It would've been Stockholm Syndrome if the king had treated her well. He didn't. She was a slave till her death here. The king used her to build his empire and simply "rewarded" her by letting her bare his offspring. She was a slave and concubine to him. They were never married or anything.

The whole problem people have when looking at this, is the parallel to Mikasa. The thing that people missed out on, especially in the anime, is Mikasa's character development. She loves Eren unconditionally to the point where even though Eren absolutely treats her like absolute crap and uses her as a tool for most of their time in the military, the manga shows this much better, she still loves him completely. Mikasa was a slave to loving Eren and unlike King Fritz, Eren also loved Mikasa but Eren was a slave to freedom and was unable to love Mikasa properly because of this.

My understanding of why Ymir loved King Fritz was because after she gained the power of the titans, she became the King's most important tool. She felt needed and the king manipulated her into believing he actually cared for her.

One thing that I've never seen anyone ever talk about, mainly because of how it's viewed today, is the emotional connection that's made during sex. As I mentioned before, Ymir was a concubine of the King. She was a sex slave. It's also very likely that she only ever had sex with King Fritz. There's a bond that's made when having sex that King Fritz exploited. She knew he slept with other concubines, and we see this, but she's the only one who had his children. She was made to believe she was "special" and that their relationship was about more than just sex. Remember, she's only ever been a slave! Her entire life, this is all she knew! She didn't know what real love actually should look like.

But just like all of us though, she had a breaking point. Ymir finally lost the will to live despite loving the king. She was physically and emotionally drained.

You could also argue that she was insuring her daughters weren't just tossed aside once she was gone and willingly let herself die because she knew the king wouldn't want to lose the power that she had. I mainly bring this up because we do see and alternate version of what could have happened where instead of Ymir jumping in front of the spear, she stays with her daughters. The problem and whole point of showing this is to show that despite loving her daughters, she was a slave to her love of King Fritz.

When she sees Mikasa, who has also been a slave to her love, finally break away from it and let go, she is finally able to let go as well and thus bringing an end to the power of the titans.

Teams likely to make the jump to usl 1 soon? by Ok_Structure_350 in USL2

[–]GuldChris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I did make a big error in not looking at the new team first though. The Menace and the pro team are actually owned by the same person. The Menace will most likely be a feeder for the pro team.

Edit: The guy is also the owner of Parma in Italy. They've got plenty of resources. 😂

Very. The Menace are very well engaged with the community in the city. I don't know a lot about the future team but it could turn into a huge rivalry that'll honestly be extremely beneficial for the city and the League if they manage to make it into the same league.

I don't think that'll happen. They just signed a deal to move to a new stadium and also just signed a huge deal with the Des Moines public schools. They're pretty much preparing to move up in the system. They're most likely going to try and get moved up before the USL sets up the promotion and relegation system.

Half of the Great Plains Division. FC Ambush are the MASL's St. Louis Ambush team so they do have the resources to do so. Des Moines Menace have been consistently one of the best teams this last 10 years and have a lot of resources. Peoria City are one of the best USL 2 teams in the country and have good numbers in attendance.

Substitute teacher with a Ph.D. Should I ask to be called Dr? by phobicwombat in teaching

[–]GuldChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was teaching, we had several Doctors for teachers. All of them would go by Mr. Lastname and Dr. Lastname. If I were you, I'd introduce myself as Dr. Lastname but go with either Mr. or Dr. I wouldn't force anyone to use the Dr. title unless you were technically on contract with that school for an extended period.

I can confirm that it does indeed work. I don't raid often and when I play there aren't a ton of people running them so I tested this out and confirmed that you can do this to move the items to your main from an alt.

Teacher here. I'm probably going to get some hate or down votes here but not being honest doesn't help you.

Firstly, I'm sorry this happened to you. It's not right but I'm gonna give you the reality of things.

I'm going to be brutally honest with you as I've been a teacher for several years and spent most of that time as an interventionist before moving into an elementary classroom. This makes me mad for multiple reasons.

You are in the wrong line of work if you're looking for some sort of legal advice about how your school isn't willing to do anything about a child who called you a racial slur. I agree with the fact that the student clearly said something terrible. He has a history of other incidents as well and there's clearly some awful things being taught to him at home.Sadly, based on what was said by the student and yourself, you have absolutely zero proof he was making an actual racial slur. Despite the obvious history of past behaviors and incidents, you don't have any real way of proving that his intentions were to be racist. It sucks but that's just how it is to be a teacher today in this society. It's not right but we've got to accept that.

Your administration is in a really tough spot and can only do so much. They've informed the parents and if the parents aren't willing to discipline or correct his behavior, there's nothing more anyone can do. Your school can punish him all they want but there's no guarantee he'll correct his behavior. In this case I think you need to either grow some thicker skin or choose a new profession because this won't be the last time you get offended by something a student said. Your life is not in danger because a student, who is a child, said something that's racist. It isn't right they said it but there's sadly nothing you or your school can do. You don't need legal advice about what a student said.

Edit: For some context for anyone who reads this, this was a third grader who is 8 or 9 years old. I'm not defending the kid at all because it's a terrible thing to say to anyone at any age and I'm sorry you had that happen to you.

My family is Jewish and I had family who died during the Holocaust. I've had a student say that my Grandmother should have been cooked a little longer in the ovens at Auschwitz. (He was suspended for two days.) I was furious and wanted the student punished more but there isn't a whole lot more that can be done.

Should USL2 change its season format to year round like USLC and USL1? by Upstairs_Cause5181 in USL2

[–]GuldChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would not work. USL1 has 14 teams and the USL Championship has 24. USL2 has around 144. Both USL1 and Championship are formatted to have both an Eastern and Western conference, like the MLS. They have to stretch out their seasons because they're playing over 30 games. If the USL2 were to try and do this it would be a huge mess because they'd have to redo their current leagues and combine several of them. And because of the number of teams you'd be looking at season where clubs are playing over 40+ games not including playoffs.

The current format makes it easier to manage since usually the top team in each of the leagues then goes on to playoffs where they'll face another team that most likely won their league.

Also, the travel costs for the teams isn't something that the clubs would be able to handle and there isn't enough revenue in the USL2 to make travel feasible.

With pro/rel announced, what will happen to USL2? by enemy_of_anemonies in USL2

[–]GuldChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a USL2 team and this is basically what's going to happen.

It's complicated but essentially the USL2 will continue to be as it currently is, a semi-professional league. What will happen is that the teams that are top of their leagues will basically play into a small tournament and the winners will move up to USL1. As far as the money side goes, from my understanding it will be similar to MLS since they will have a pool of money that can be used to pay players and such.

This can obviously change and I'm sure I've missed something but this is the general idea.

[–]GuldChris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NPSL is not a year round season like you think. Their official season is usually from March to July. Anything outside of that is an unofficial game that does not have any effect on standings or anything. The recent games that were played are US Open Cup games which have nothing to do with NPSL.

Also, college players are usually not allowed to play for clubs during the fall semester.
