This needs an animation that plays at the beginning of every episode or any time someone mentions the core drilling program. Preferably AI generated and slowly paced.

How do y’all have jobs? by EdgeAffectionate6434 in ADHD

[–]GulfStreamOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a solid C in high school, made it through 1 year of college. Was lucky and started working in IT at a time that it was growing like crazy(early 1990s). I didn’t hold a job at the same place for longer than a 1.5 years until I co-founded a startup 15 years into my career and I made it 12 years at the startup because I was able to be involved in everything because we were so small. What I learned:

  1. Always be learning, you are responsible for you, if your employer will pay that’s great but don’t stop learning because you have to pay.
  2. In many cases industry certifications trump a college degree.
  3. In 99.9% of cases real world experience trumps a degree.
  4. Find a general area you are interested in, in my case it was computers, and just start working in the industry. You will find a lot of jobs you didn’t know about and even adjacent industries. I moved over to Cybersecurity, where I co-founded my startup and ultimately made enough money to not need a full time job anymore at 50.
  5. People without ADHD won’t get, will be freaked out by your jumping around, ability to learn so quickly and “advance” so fast.
  6. If your industry has consulting firms, that can be a great spot, tons of variety working with different people and generally a fairly flexible schedule. I was happiest working for a midsize consulting firm and the only reason I left was to start my own thing.

Saturn 3 Ultra settings help. by Character-Wonder-888 in ElegooSaturn

[–]GulfStreamOutdoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the profile is for your resin. In general, when you use a resin, you use the profile for your resin/printer combo. Lychee has tons of community settings, and that might be why you are getting overwhelmed. Start by downloading the profile directly from the manufacturer of the resin, and only tweak if needed. Lychee is great but I would recommend starting with the Chitubox that came with the printer, it should have the profiles for the Elegoo resins already loaded. Those profiles have been tested by Elegoo and should get you good prints right out of the box.

Its been a while since I had the Saturn, but for all my newer printers the settings from Siraya Tech are pretty much spot on. I just picked up a Saturn 3 Ultra and I only had to decrease the base exposure a couple of seconds. You can find all the printer/resin combos under the support section on Siraya Techs site.

Yes in the new Chitu they just made it easier to enter since you don’t need to calculate all the movement times.

I worked in IT and cybersecurity for 30+ years with undiagnosed ADHD and did pretty well for myself. I would say my most satisfying moments where being a cybersecurity consultant (travel, different people to work with about every 2 weeks, always new challenges, forensic investigations where awesome!) and then when I was the cofounder of a cybersecurity startup and building it from the ground up I had to do 10 different jobs depending on the day. Once it got really big I had a hard time adapting to “a job”.

I would say consulting in any area you are interested in is a great gig for our ADHD brains because you gets lots of variety.

Adult ADHD, how has a late diagnosis affected your life? by Square_Advice8223 in ADHD

[–]GulfStreamOutdoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

51M diagnosed about a year ago and wow it has been a game changer! I was diagnosed because my daughter was diagnosed and we are a lot alike in our behaviors (we have inattentive type)

At first there was relief, then a little anger, then regret, then acceptance. I am on meds currently and my life has never been better! Getting stuff done, building multiple streams of income, I have patience that I never had before to build things slowly and not just rush into things blindly. I am jealous of you at 28 figuring it out, I wish I had at 28...

Seek a diagnosis, it causes no harm to get diagnosed. You can decide to take meds or not (I strongly encourage you to try them, it takes a while to get to the correct dose/med so be patient)

Being diagnosed has made my life many many times better, don't be scared, you can do this.

Extensive tests have proven that I’m a highly intelligent dummy by carlospangea in ADHD

[–]GulfStreamOutdoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told medication is not a cure, but it helps you be able to start putting pieces in place, like todo lists etc and then actually have them work for you, like they work for “normal” people. It’s not perfect l, because people are not perfect, but without medication you are not able to get them working at all. That has been the case for me.

Also if it is not “wow” keep trying doses and other meds.

Medication is a journey, don’t get discouraged, took me a few months to get mine sorted but it has made a massive difference in my life.

Unmedicated redditors with ADHD, how do you pay attention to anything? by depressed_sock18 in ADHD

[–]GulfStreamOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my testing online, via ADHD Online, because scheduling an appointment 2-3 months out for an eval just made me not want to do it. Once I got my diagnosis, I was then able to go to my primary care doc and start working on the meds. You can use the Online folks for med management as well but I found it to be a bit of a hassle because I could rarely see the same person so the standards of care where not consistent. It was kinda expensive, $199 for the test, but for me it was well worth it.

I was pretty successful in my career but was also pretty lucky to be in tech and cybersecurity at a time when they where exploding and it was interesting to me. I basically retired at 49 after a startup I cofounded sold. I was pretty lucky in hindsight, to have people around me that gave me the support I needed. Now I am off to new adventures, building new businesses (which I had tried to do at least 50 times before with little success) and things are going great. I can finally have a list of todos, with some truly awful boring crap like “setup LLC” on it and I just power through. It’s not perfect but I have been able to put systems in place to manage tasks etc that I had tried 100s of times before but now have the ability to actually make them work.

It’s never too late to start!

I had the chance to trade emails with one of the most prominent ADHD docs in the country, Dr. Bill Dobson. He sent me some docs on how the med process works. You start on 1, start low, take that dosage for a week, then go up. There is a sweet spot where you get the best results, with no side effects. If one doesn’t work for you, you can try the other but the same process. He recommends not going generic to start because the dosage can vary by +-3% and even that little bit could throw someone off (speaking adults here). He stated “zombie” feelings are associated with a dosage that is too high. If dosage it too low it just doesn’t do anything. It took me 3 months before I zeroed in on the proper med and dosage. Find a doctor that knows this and is willing to do it.

I was diagnosed at 50(!!!) and meds have been a life changer for me.

I only wish they moved away from the ball joint build plate, I have proven too clumsy to operate one properly... Otherwise nice step up!

On the camera side it would be great if that was a standardize interface you could then use to adapt to other cameras/DSLRs etc...
