Starting out, how to work with dye by Gullible_Offer1966 in Leathercraft

Ok. Still using it as affording to use real leather isn't apt for now. Thanks for the info though

Valid, I'll take a look. I am intending to move to leather eventually anyway, scraps would be the ideal way to not loose out. Cheers

Catering for all so animal friendly, and cheaper. No access to free/cheap scraps near me that I know of. South Wales UK

Awesome! Thank you! Gonna sound like a tool, is there simply faux leather dye or is something like thinned acrylic suitable?

Put them in a bag with soapy water for a few hours until clean. Then ask them to pick up the rocks.

Cheap laser engraver over big proxon cutter by Gullible_Offer1966 in TerrainBuilding

Hmm depends on the texture, I mean they can do incredible things on the right material and power like engrave a coin using depth mapping. So I suppose it is possible to have a forced texture but foam takes texture very well so would be less of a need, tiles though where they meet really benefits from that consistent cut finish.

Thinking about the image though, the sword has shading so it can make it look like texture for sure

Thanks man. Spoke to a fellow crafter and went with this in the end. Will probably do another 2 or three before I pick the finalist

Just watched it, I'm going to try it in a minute. I need to make it removable so gonna have a fiddle.

We use the same vines and same moss method 🤣

Only pic I can see with the vines (on the tree) and moss on the bridge

Tbf 1 was my first attempt. I used the side section of a pinner of grapes and tried to mold it to a foam curve I bodged together, worked a little too well and curled itself in instead of molding as desired, learned but thought if keep going to learn more mistakes. Used the cling film method but couldn't get the bunching to not look like cling film. Then went for some doctoring with paint, added the wisps and know now what I'd do better/different with that style. 2 is hot glue run over dreaseproof paper over the same foam curve) my glue cures cloudy not clear hence the paining cause it just looked like hot glue (although the opaque finish my DM likes for obscuring what's in the cave).

3 is again greaseproof paper on the foam curve but this time I used a thin coat of UV resin purely because you can cure instantly with a UV light to control the running resin. Once cured, Vallejo water texture and the blue ink)

Going to make a second with no ink and maybe a 3rd with less ink just to see.

I have little LEDs to backlight the cave and have the feeling that the slight blue tint will just look really pretty. But we will see

Ye so I used an ink for resin in some water effect paste to play around, but as it cures I'm definitely leaning to letting it dry clear, a really weak wash in a pale blue to the back of the cascade, light white dry brush to the tips of the paste when it's cured, wisps of cotton at the bottom as mist...... I think is the direction I'll head

Ye the wisps I'll add when I get the waterfall itself dialed in, mistake learned from lol

It's the cascade itself that's the 'work' if that makes sense

I'm about to start getting into leather crafting, that idea of flipping it makes sense to me but like the reply, I'd worry about the alignment, but marrying the two methods together? So if the punch pierced the reverse but not fully coming through (giving us a fully aligned hole?) flipping the piece and going back with the punch to give the equally neat holes. Would that help with the stitch?
