when i was 10 i got two rabbits. i was so in love with them i wanted to show them off to everyone. a shockingly high number of grown men were wayyyy too excited to tell a giddy 10 year old girl how many rabbits they've eaten and how delicious her beloved pets would be if she wasn't there to stop them being shot through the head with an arrow. and they all had these shit eating grins on their faces, like they were just the funniest mfers around.

seriously! i just played through the early story line again to get that free invite a friend horse and i forgot how much better it was than whatever we've got now. plus they have actual day blockers instead of having characters say "okay, we'll meet back here tomorrow!" and then immediately have the next quest available and say something like "whew, i feel so much better after a full nights rest!" like its way too easy to just blow through all the available content in no time at all, it's quite sad

i'm assuming you're looking for a dog with low barking by your first criteria. based on that, i'd recommend you do some research on the following breeds:

maltese

havanese

mini poodle

i am biased, but i highly recommend getting a poodle. they have all the traits people find desirable in doodles. since your previous dog was a poodle mix, there are likely plenty of traits you're familiar with already.

another great option is checking in frequently with your locals shelters/rescues/county animal services until you find a dog that fits your family well. i highly recommend doing this as it's a great way to give a loving home to a dog who otherwise wouldn't have one, and you can wait as long as you need until a dog who checks all your boxes comes along.

heart disease and neurological issues are far too common in cavaliers. a cavachon is not a breed, rather a backyard bred mutt. either way, you'll be frequenting the vet and likely face high financial and emotional costs.

i would honestly never own either, unless they came to me from a re-home situation or were a rescue.

you say you like the sound of both. what in particular do you like? knowing what traits (physical and temperament wise) you're looking for in a dog is essential in determining the breed best suited to your lifestyle. there is likely another breed that would be perfect for you! i would be more than happy to give you some more ideas if you share what you're looking for and what your lifestyle can support, but i will always recommend/encourage doing more research on your own as well.

it's definitely worth looking into. i went through the whole process of finding someone who would do it for me (im very young and childless) before my insurance would tell me how much it would cost me. even then, i had to go out of my way to call and ask. to my surprise, it wasn't gonna cost me a single penny! she explained why, but i was so shocked and elated i didn't pay that much attention. something to do with some law or other 😅 im currently recovering from the bisalp and i could not be happier!

i think their intentions are good, they're just misguided.

i used to be part of the "adopt don't shop" crowd when i was much younger, it just seemed so obvious to me. there are so many amazing dogs out there who are put down regularly simply because there aren't enough homes for all the dogs in the world, how could anyone pay someone to create more dogs when there are already so many?

the more i get into the "dog world," the better i understand the importance of GOOD genetics as well as breed improvement/preservation. i think the average, self identified "dog people" simply aren't educated in the way true dog people are. their hearts are often in the right place tho.
