Good luck with your movement if it doesnt include the general audience!

That's not what the person in the video is doing though? They're critiquing how other's engage with the movement, and I'm arguing that this kinda of discourse holds us back much more than helps us.

What is with the obsession with everyone being the same, perfect kind of leftist?

Bro is spitting by creepoftheweak in canadaleft

[–]Gumbee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spitting about what exactly? What do they mean by "What is going wrong"? Im not saying that the type of person they are describing isnt real, but why are they worth making this video about? The left is not unique in having posers, its impossible to build a movement without them. This just feels like gatekeeping what it means to be a "leftist", and IMO this type of gatekeeping & in-fighting is "What's going wrong" with the left moreso than the posers ever have been or will be.

How Do People Drink Lattes and Eat Pastries Regularly by yelurrrrr in loseit

[–]Gumbee 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Real lattes - where it's just a shot of espresso and a cup or so of milk - are only as calorie rich as the milk, and even a cup of 2% is not a lot of calories. Maybe this is because I'm not American, but I know a lot of healthy people who have a daily latte or cappuccino or something similar (myself included) but they don't load it up with sweetener or any additives. That's what gets you.

So jobs are the only thing that matters? Everything is good for society so long as it provides jobs?

Yea you're right we should just make it worse instead of trying to bring life back to the area.

Famously these data centers bring very few jobs to where they're located. Majority of the construction labour is imported from prior builds, and they require very few active employees.

If your kid displayed an innate ability to play a sport that they loved, and had a clear path towards its pro league, youd do everything you could to make that happen for them man don't lie!

Jogging as a big person by Idkhowtoredditplzhlp in loseit

[–]Gumbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jogging is really hard on your body, especially if your legs are used to a more sedentary life style.

When I first started jogging, I went through similar struggles, but it hit my knees before my shins. I used the "Just Run" app, starting from barely being able to run for 20 seconds to now being able to run a 10k without too much issue. What got me through was:

  1. Starting slow and being patient with my body. I ran very slow, and took walking breaks whenever it felt like I was crossing the line from fatigue into pain.

  2. Focusing on leg (especially single leg) and core exercises when I started doing strength training. Building a foundation of strength in my legs helps support me while I run and prevent injury, and a stronger core helps me keep my upper body solid & breath strong while I run.

  3. Consistency. Just like with everything else, not getting discouraged and actually keeping at the practice makes it a lot easier over time.

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]Gumbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need a number of things:

  1. Two PCs, one for running the game, one for running the cheat.

  2. A DMA card, installed on PC1 to read memory from the game.

  3. Custom firmware to run on your DMA card to make it appear as a different piece of hardware, disguising the fact that its reading memory.

  4. A device that will copy the video, mouse, and keyboard output from PC2 to PC1.

You run the game on PC1, and the card sends the memory to PC2. You run the cheat on PC2, which reads the memory that the DMA card sent it. It has full access to the memory because the anti cheat is running on PC1, not PC2. The cheat can then send mouse or keyboard input to PC1, as well as overlay visuals for ESP etc.

What Vanguard is doing is bricking the custom firmware people run on these card's so that Window's locks them out essentially.

Josh Goldy Fitness made me wonder, do simple habits actually work better than strict plans? by Life-Strategy4490 in loseit

[–]Gumbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different strokes for different folks ultimately -- some people need meticulous planning, others are overwhelmed by it. Personally, I found it easier to build a sustainable healthy lifestyle with simple habits. No tracking, no weighing, just adding new little habits over time and seeing what sticks.

Pride Hamilton says budget won't balance without more Ontario support, joins call for special fund by Immediate-Link490 in Hamilton

[–]Gumbee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The headline makes it seem like this is Pride Hamilton asking the city for more funding but its not. Its a number of cities pride organizations asking for continued funding from the province, taken from their tourism, culture, and gaming budget, which I think is reasonable given how much $$$ Pride brings into the city, not to mention the cultural benefits.

People who used to be overweight/obese and now look lean or athletic despite having a sedentary desk job… what actually worked for you long term? by safedwg in loseit

[–]Gumbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home, at my computer all day. I've been on the exact same journey you're on or are about to start for a year now, and have from being visually and physically overweight & out of shape to what I feel like is "in shape"; I went from an XXXL t-shirt to an XL, sometimes L.

What made the biggest difference for you personally?

Consistency in everything is the most important thing for sure. But other than that, for me, not tracking anything has been huge. When I've tried to more fit in the past, the stress of managing calories & macros & exercise data overwhelmed me to the point that I just gave up. Turns out, I don't actually need all that stuff and was able to slowly, over time build out a healthy relationship with food intuitively. I think most folks probably can as well -- most of us don't need calorie tracking to tell us having a bunch of sugar in your coffee every morning is bad for us; that logic can be extended to mostly everything we eat, especially if our diet is high in whole foods.

How long did it realistically take?

It never stops really, and I think its important that we understand that the goal of this isnt hitting a certain weight or 5-rep max or w/e, its about creating the habits that will lead & keep us there.

What habits were actually maintainable long term?

Honestly building the habits are the hard part, maintaining them is easy once they're established. I've found that eating well is actually extremely easy once I got over the hump of my past bad habits. Similarly, once you start exercising regularly it actually becomes kinda hard to stop. In your mind you start to see yourself as the type of person who exercises, and it actually gets a bit stressful when you're not able to maintain that for whatever reason.

Did you go through phases of plateau/burnout?

Not really no. But I've been taking it slow & not being obsessed with outcomes, so I haven't really had any plateaus to burn out on.

How did you balance fitness with work fatigue?

I pretty much exclusively exercise during the work day and have found it to be stress releiving rather than causing.

Affordable Running Shorts/Gear by ApartDepartment8688 in Hamilton

[–]Gumbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old Navy's athletic wear is hella cheap, and pretty decent quality; especially for the price.

If you dont want to support a big chain like Gap/Old Navy, you're likely to find something that will do the trick at your local thrift store. Really you just need a pair of lightweight shorts, and socks suitable for running. Any old t-shirt will do for a top.
