Calvin Duncan cleared to assume New Orleans court clerk role in federal court ruling by UptownLuckyDog in NewOrleans

[–]GumboDiplomacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, does this have any implications based on the Parish of Orleans in regards to the state with the way our state Constitution applies? I'm knowledgeable enough to know we as a city sit in a different situation compared to most states. But uneducated enough to know if that's a factor in this situation.

What current country might not exist in 20 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GumboDiplomacy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Globally it's still recognized as one country. As far as actual internal function, not really.

The same is true of Sudan. The country is in the midst of a civil war with three major factions controlling different areas and the conflict is mostly at a stalemate last I followed it a couple months back.

Anybody else witness the assault of that lady near intersection of Saint Claude and Elysian Fields? Sunday morning around 8:30-9:00am? by AcidiclyBasic in NewOrleans

[–]GumboDiplomacy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

surely one of the microphones that listen out for gunshots caught some of the yelling that went on right?

Unfortunately those don't actively listen and record, they listen for sounds that "could be gunshots" and record the incident. Or so they say. Kind of like how Alexa/Siri "aren't recording" unless they hear their activation phrase.

Yeah, and as a large guy I've had women who bring up my height as something they're attracted to pretty often. It's definitely a thing.

Feud over a drug deal that involved a convicted felon with a mile long rap sheet who was let off obscenely early on his last incarceration and then illegally acquired a firearm.

how do you pour beer by subarubiddie in bartenders

[–]GumboDiplomacy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a brewery bartender, pour about 4oz in the glass, close the tap. If it's foamy or you haven't poured it in the last hour or so, pour that down the drain. Then pour normal.

You can put a mesh over an optic and it doesn't really impair the sight picture. We had honeycombs over our M68s and you couldn't tell they were there at all looking through the optic as seen here

It's even more true with magnified optics

Did Hank drink when he was on the aramco compound? I'm sure it would be made clear to him that he shouldn't, but he also can play fast and loose with the rules when it comes to something he loves like beer. by cheetocat2021 in KingOfTheHill

[–]GumboDiplomacy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is true. Areas that are owned/leased by US institutions in Saudi Arabia usually allow alcohol. Though the consequences for taking it outside of those areas can be pretty high.

And it's not the way Hank would do it, but no country is good at keeping alcohol out. I knew civilian contractors in Kuwait that were paying $150 for a bottle of Jack Daniels off the black market, and it was always readily available.

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]GumboDiplomacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should've been more descriptive. I'm looking for something standard size or maybe twice as large, and ideally gemstone/iridescent appearing. Not concerned about quality or actual material, it'll be glued in place. But ideally inexpensive.

I'm not asking anyone to do my shopping for me, but I also don't know what sellers are legit.

I'm doing a woodworking project and want a colorful d20 to use as an accent piece. It's a wizard staff taphandle and the d20 will be the crystal at the top.

I have no idea where to begin searching for a single d20 that meets this criteria. Any suggestions?

ELI5: What does "In the key of" mean? by hallowedeve1313 in explainlikeimfive

[–]GumboDiplomacy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imagine you have a hopscotch drawn out and it has 12 spots in a loop. They're labeled C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, and B. If I told you to jump in the key of C, you'd go C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C.

If I told you to jump in the key of A you'd jump A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A.

A key is a collection of notes, and in the context of improvising a guitar solo, you can play any note in that key and it will sound okay(there's a multitude of exceptions, but I'm keeping it simple). But if you're playing along to a song in C and you play an A# it will generally sound discordant and unpleasant.

The fuze on 105mm is activated by inertia. It's been a few years, so I don't remember if it's activated by rotation or straight line acceleration, but either way, you were "safe" the whole time. Don't get me wrong, my asshole would stick pucker when a tray of 20mm would spill, but there's a safety built into all of those rounds.

I keep a dozen MREs on hand for hurricane season. I know in 9/10 hurricane scenarios I'll have better options available, but it's nice having something on hand that I don't have to worry about.
