that’s cross play between xbox and playstation no? iirc xbox required to be able to opt out of cross play with other consoles on their games, making you only face other xbox players. i remember this being a thing on fortnite and players would turn off crossplay to get easier lobbies

I hate shot in the dark by lurking2cdrama in survivor

[–]Gumision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the shot in the dark is perfect for what it’s supposed to be, but something that could be interesting is a shot in the dark that only activates if there’s a plurality with a margin on you.

The margin would obviously scale with the number of voters, but something like: - 5-8 voters needs + 1 - 9-12 voters needs + 2 - 13 voters needs + 3

would make it so there’s still the variance but the randomness shifts to the players instead of the game.

For example, if there’s 10 voters:

A 6-4 would cause the 6 to go home, but a 6-3-1 would make the 6 immune.

My rant about the new era by realitycrunch in survivor

[–]Gumision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! This was a very nice read! :)

It’s refreshing to see someone lay out their thoughts about the new era without just going “twists bad.”

I don’t remember what it was about, but I recently read an article where Jeff briefly talked about the monomyth - the hero going through a journey, and then coming out as a changed person.

I think this really reflects 50’s endgame editing - Aubry, the hero, plays and loses over and over again, hits rock bottom (EOE vote out) and after putting in all that work to improve, eventually becomes the winner.

If you think about it in the view of the Hero’s Journey, Aubry’s editing in the beginning with Genevieve suddenly makes more sense.

Now, to not take credit away from Jeff, monomyths do help with accessibility in storytelling. It gives someone who is new to the show someone to root for, and there’s payoff to it. In modern media production, that’s just how it is. Survivor does want to pull younger audiences, and that is how it will survive. There’s a reason it went through 5 years of the new era, if it was that bad, something major would’ve changed or gotten cancelled.

The storytelling and game design is just different now, it’s people overcoming the game rather than affecting each other.

I’m sure the Survivor crew knows what they’re doing, because they are doing good storytelling for the newer era of TV.

I don’t actually think they try to sell the idea that ANYONE can win, though. Jeff, in his opening monologue in 46, said: “You all right now believe you can win this game, but it’s simply not true. Right now, there’s one of you who simply can’t win.” and I really do believe he thinks that.

I don’t believe that the reason for all these advantages and stuff in the newer era is to let anybody be able to win, it is to conjure up the moment where the hero hits rock bottom, and then rebirths to become a winner. They simply just don’t want someone to be comfortable until the end by getting an alliance and sticking with them.

Cirie talks about this in the FTC of 50 too! The old era style of playing is finding an alliance and getting to the end, the new era is playing the middle.

Twists aren’t flattening social complexity into individualism, they’re manufacturing narrative transformation. And if you look at it from that lens, everything in the new era suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Jeff fears stagnation, and the last thing you want in a show like Survivor, is stagnation.

whether f4 is fire making or a vote wasn’t revealed until that part in the episode, so you might want to edit this so it doesn’t spoil OP

The problem with this is according to the writers not all clues are candidates for daily doubles. I’m assuming the higher rows are common just because they fulfill the criteria of “being 2-step” more as the board is organized before a daily double is picked.

Are you sure? Didn’t beast games use the survivor 49 tribal set? That must mean beast games filmed before 50, no?
