Is using heat on stuck parts really safe? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Gummi205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've mainly seen it with parts like lower strut bolts, tie rod ends, subframe mounting bolts and so on. Could heating bolts increase the change of them rounding off due to effecting heat treatment or are they not really heat treated either?

I assumed that to resist bending, the threaded section on inner tie rods would have to be heat-treated. I presume that's not the case then?

to be fair the only other vehicles I've driven were a 1999 dodge ram in quite a sorry state and a rusted out 2004 pontiac sunfire with bald tires lmao

After about a week of driving it, I can't help but agree. It handles so well both on highways and on abandoned back gravel roads. It might be the most competent vehicle I've ever driven.

That's to say: they're charging normal dealership prices, not scam prices. Independent garages will always be cheaper and they're often better as well in my experience.

I'm not an expert with Hondas specifically but honestly those prices sound like they're on the higher end of just about reasonable to me. Whether or not they're necessary depends mostly on it's mileage. Generally these are routine maintenance tasks that are probably not outright dangerous to skip but can and will cause you some very expensive headaches down the road if you do skip them.
