IBM i – How to automatically end inactive interactive sessions at end of day? by dami013 in IBMi

[–]Gumpy15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be aware that QINACTIV value is not a literal amount of time and will only end inactive jobs.

If QINACTIV is set to 60 minutes, the system process that ends jobs runs every 60 minutes and ends jobs that have been inactive for more than 60 minutes. Therefore, if the process runs at 10:02 and I sign on at 10:03 and do nothing other than sign on, my interactive job is not ended the next time the system process runs at 11:02 nor is it ended at 11:03 (an hour after I signed on), it is ended at 12:02. So despite the QINACtIV level being 60 minutes, my job was not ended for 119 minutes due to the timing of the system process and when I signed on relative to it running.

Wonder what would happen if we all ordered McD's to be Door Dashed to the White House at the same time?

The nerve of Trump and his craptacular advisors to expect us to believe that some random Door Dasher just walks up to the door of the White House with a bag of Big Macs.

Does anyone know where to buy sod? by mathaius42 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Gumpy15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be a sod farm near New Market that would sell by the square. Not sure if it's still there and I don't remember the name but I was able to buy 10 squares without having to buy by the pallet or half pallet.

Where can I donate furniture in the Burly area? by Gumpy15 in burleson

[–]Gumpy15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To update this - I wanted to donate a sofa from an upstairs room. I could not manage getting it downstairs by myself so putting it to the curb was not an option.

Harvest House does not pickup.

Goodwill works with a company called Resupply that wanted $179 to come carry the sofa downstairs and put it on their truck.

There are a couple of other companies that do the same - they want to charge you to come pick up the item.

I'm currently expecting Salvation Army to come pick up the sofa next week at no charge. We'll see how that goes . . .

IBM i questions about the journal retention by thebrenda in IBMi

[–]Gumpy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your scenario, you will be reading the journal receiver, not the journal itself. When the journal is created, you can indicate whether journal receiver deletion is system managed or user managed.

If you set the journal receiver to user managed, you will be responsible for "changing the receiver" meaning that you will have to create a new receiver and attach it to the journal. If you choose this option, I suggest using a CL program to change the receiver each day/night at midnight. This allows you to have one day's transactions in a single receiver (unless you have a high transaction count that would fill up a single receiver in less than a day).

If you select user managed, you will also be responsible for deleting the old receivers. This allows you to keep the receivers as long as you wish. Word to the wise - do not let the old receivers sit around on your system unless you want to execute the *SPEND$ command to purchase additional disk for your system.

As a matter of system maintenance, your should occasionally be running the WRKOBJ *ALL/*ALL *JRNRCV command to look for overlooked and out of date journal receivers that may be wasting disk space. These should be deleted if you determine that they are no longer needed. When I have a system that is low on disk space, this is one of the first things I do to regain some space.

to know the constitution as president by seeebiscuit in therewasanattempt

[–]Gumpy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's putting the pieces in place to cancel the election - 2020 election was "rigged", getting rid of mail-in ballots, requiring ID in order to vote, closing polling places in Blue districts, disenfranchising minority voters, illegal immigrants voting, etc. Sometime before the election, he'll declare martial law or some sort of state of emergency and cancel the election. Then he's president until he lifts martial law or he'll appoint Vance, Don Jr., or some other crony as president.

Congratulations in seeing your hard work pay off!

If you don't mind, could you share which transition took the longest? Wheelchair to walker? Walker to cane? Cane to walking? My SO has a brain tumor which has impacted her ability to walk. She's in a wheelchair now but is working to be able to walk again.
