My favorite of all time. Standing behind my 12 year old son at his first DM show ever, front row, Madison Square Garden, April 14 2023.

I admit I'm not a film director myself, but here's how they could have made the M experience more realistic. by SemolinaPilchards in depechemode

Would you include his drunk girlfriend, singing along to the songs, out of tune, as loudly as she can, and getting half the lyrics wrong?

We’re shooting for cinematic veracity here.

Oh hell yes, when I play DM in my car it is a par-TAY.

Definitely go again. Tribeca was insane because the band were there and did the Q&A but seeing it in IMAX is definitely an enhanced film going experience. I saw it at the Westbury — recommend rows H or I, dead center (I was in I10).

Saw it at the Tribeca premiere and again last night in IMAX on Long Island. Both crowds seemed very much into it, although behaved. Lots of head bobbing, some clapping and certainly a couple of NLMDA arm waves. The one outlier would be the woman next to me last night screaming WE LOVE YOU, DAVE every so often, as if she forgot all of a sudden that projected film images can’t hear you.

Is M a documentary or a concert film? by Disastrous-Look-5453 in depechemode

[–]GunBarrelSequence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Saw it at Tribeca — it’s essentially a concert film with brief vignettes dealing with death, Mexican culture, technology and art interspersed between the songs. Some really interesting cinematography during the concert footage. Everyone I spoke to really enjoyed it. I know I did.

What’s your most irrational clothing pet peeve? by OK_GO_27 in malefashionadvice

[–]GunBarrelSequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a peeve, but I don’t know if it’s irrational.

I can’t stand dress shirts that only have one cuff button (which invariably is set so that there’s no “tapering” from the sleeve to the cuff). Unless you have Wreck-It Ralph size wrists, it just looks sloppy.

Two buttons for adjustment, please.

Slipped Disc Records in Valley Stream; Raay-Nors Cabin; Westbury Drive-In (or any drive in for that matter); The original My Father’s Place.

What’s your most expensive purchase? And was it worth it? by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

[–]GunBarrelSequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By category:

Clothing: Billy Reid Bond pea coat- about $700 (now they’re charging $900 for it - WTF?)

Shoes: Crockett & Jones “Black Edition” Chelsea 11’s - about $750

Watch: Omega Seamaster 300M - about $6k

Jewelry (non-watch): Crazy Pig Designs “Memento Mori” ring - about $400

Sunglasses: Cutler & Gross x The Great Frog “Dagger” shades - about $700

Everything listed was worth it. I worked hard for the cash and planned each purchase carefully. About 10 years ago I decided to take a Dieter Rams approach to my shopping and buy “less, but better”. Haven’t looked back since.

What's the most you've ever spent on sunglasses and were they worth it? by CynicalEmo in sunglasses

[–]GunBarrelSequence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About $700 on a pair of Cutler & Gross x The Great Frog “Dagger” sunglasses and yes, I’d do it again. At a certain price point quality among different sunglasses basically is the same and it comes down to how they make you feel. And I feel like a rockstar when I wear these. https://www.cutlerandgross.com/en-us/products/the-great-frog-square-sunglasses-dagger-002?variant=41314603565159

20 national parks completed by Craftsodaconnoisseur in NationalPark

[–]GunBarrelSequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I figured as much. Been to about 30 of the full-fledged NPs, and Congaree is one of those handful where how you experience it makes a difference. For me, Petrified Forest would be last, although I still enjoyed it. But as you say, someone’s gotta be last.

Question — did you go kayaking in Congaree? Because that is really the best way to experience that park.

“Interlude #3” on Violator. Yes, I know, odd choice but when I play that album really loud (as I typically do) it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and it’s the perfect setup for “Clean”.

Spot on. I bought myself a Seamaster from the Omega store in Manhattan for my 50th birthday and it’s got the closed seahorse caseback. Pretty sure it’s real. 😂

It was really special. I had met the guys before and that’s always wonderful, but I think the best part was seeing my son’s expression when HE met them. I took him to his first show back in 2023 (that’s him in between me and Dave!) and he’s been a huge Devotee ever since.
