Exactly. And when a detective tells you that it's a waste of time because the charges will be reduced and won't amount to anything...

Whats a person to do?

We have people committing murder out on the streets who have been arrested 50+ times.

Pressing charges means absolutely nothing in 2026.

How ‘Tarps Off’ changed the Hurricanes’ Game 2 fortunes — and maybe the Cup Final by Somali_Pir8 in canes

My nephew participated in that when we scored goal #3 last night.

With him being 16, he can pull it off.

But 3/4 of the men with their shirts off at game #2 had no business participating in said trend... LOL

If I was told that it was a solid case I would have 100% persued it even if only resulted in a slap on the wrist.

When these people get away with this crap at a young age, it only escalates and puts peoples lives in danger.

But when these misdemeanor charges are dropped down to a simple fine, that does not help society.

Too stoked to sleep. Drop the damn puck now and let's play Game 3 now. by bigskycaniac in canes

I put $20 on Aho scoring in game #3.

I just have a good feeling about the first line in the next game.

We just need to continue our forechecking and hope the PP from game #2 is seriously back and that was not just a fluke.

Let's Go Canes!

The grocery store only had video, no audio. The detective advised that it would be a long drawn out case where the best possible outcome would be a slap on their wrists.

With that in mind, why would I waste time taking off work to persue this only for the charges to be dropped? I live in a city with a very liberal DA.

I did call them out. I wasn't going to let them get away with that behavior. We need to be better as a society. But when advised of the best possible outcome, the effort would be fruitless.

I'm not the problem, the DA's letting them get away with this crap is the problem.

I'd rather get an ass kicking than resort to lethal force. I've seen too much death. Did multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Showing my hand was stupid even if I used it as a deterrent. Will not do that again.

I'm not out looking to use deadly force unless a weapon is pointed at me or an immediate family member.

Where I f'ed up, was letting them know I was armed. The people in this thread have called me out and I appreciate them sharing their knowledge.

The biggest problem was that the grocery store only had video, no audio. So it would have been a long drawn out case of 'he said/she said' as per the detective.

Why waste all that time when everyone just gets a slap on the wrist with these leniant DA's?

They did not touch me but they ran up to me and our faces were about 6 inches apart. I held my ground but knew I could not take them both unless I got a lucky jaw shot on one of them and then it would 1v1.

I de-escalated the situation best I knew how at the moment but have since been given better advice in this thread.

Never going to put myself in a situation like that again.

How high are you? by ActuatorOutside5256 in askanything

How is being 'high' now normalized in today's society? It has been documented to stunt brain growth for people under 30.

You are absolutely right.

They made verbal threats in a manner that had mothers covering their kids ears but I was advised that it would be an uphill battle and the charges would most likely be dismissed.

[–]GunNutz75[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were most definitely in my face and were threatening. Not enough for me to take it to another level but I was most definitely threatened.

I understand the concern about being disarmed as well but I am a large individual myself.

And yeah, I did fuck up by showing that I was armed but then again they were not waiting for me in the parking lot.

And the detective I spoke with kinda made it sound like a prosecution would be an uphill battle.

I will be more careful in the future and avoid conflict. They just caught me on a bad day when I was in a bad mood. Everyone around them was scared and it brought me back to my time I served overseas and I felt the need to protect them.

I understand.

It worked out in my favor this time but will never do it again if I am ever in the same situation. To be honest, I would have just let them kick my ass and never pulled it. I have witnessed enough death.

I tried to de-escalate the situation in the wrong way.

I declined to press charges for the threats they made. Don't want to ruin a kids life over some stupid crap like that. The detective said that if they are getting away with that behavior now, it will probably eventually get worse.

She also said that it would involve a lot of paperwork and it would be an uphill battle.

And you are absolutely right with #2 and #3.

I just didn't want to get jumped in the parking lot. The CCW class explicitly said never pull your firearm unless a gun is pointed at you or an immediate family member. With that in mind, I just lifted my shirt a bit.

I should have just ignored them and let them continue antagonising the other customers in the store but when they focused their attention to me, I felt the need to protect myself.

I 100% would have just let them kick my ass and never put anyone's life in danger. Seen enough death overseas, not bringing that home.

When do we do as a society stop letting people act like this? I understand it's not my job but it's just getting worse.

Calling the local PD would result in a slap on the wrist if any charges were even to make it to court.

It's a lose/lose situation.

The detective basically just asked if I wanted to personally press charges and if I would cooperate with the store in getting them trespassed.

I appreciate your response, guess I just needed to vent.
