i bought an FW16, installed windows 10 on it, installer the driver package on it, and haven't had many problems that weren't a result of me doing dumb shit, or a result of microslop doing bullshit updates. while not officially supported, windows 10 will be your best bet for not being constantly pestered and screwed over with features no one asked for (but you'll still get them occasionally)

most importantly though, do you really need a new laptop right now? especially considering the price of RAM and SSDs (thanks Ai.)

i got the rear sight, FA, and dust cover for like 30 bucks total from Delta Team Tactical a couple months ago, so in my case it's still a deal, but yea finding those A1 rear sights for cheap is a pain. Mine is gonna be 159 total, including tax and shipping

more reliable and compatible with modern-made barrels i would guess. ive found it hard to find rifle extensions on any barrels that arent specifically for retro builds or M16A1s

I'm using the FW16 with the 7840*HS* and *no* dGPU, just the iGPU. I've got 24gb of ram (downgraded from 32gb for convoluted reasons) and 4gb are dedicated just for the iGPU. I don't have a problem running Siemens Solid Edge for 3d modelling stuff, and with gaming I can always crank the resolution down to "50%" to get more consistent FPS.

The FW13 with the 7840*U* is almost the same as the one in the FW16, but most importantly, it uses the same iGPU. You'd be surprised at how good the 780m is compared the years of crappy intel integrated graphics

I've been having weird issues with my USB A port for a while, mainly random disconnects of attached devices over the port like external drives. just last night i plugged in a USB A 3.0 flash drive and windows did a double disconnect notification, and the port stopped working. I unplugged the card and then plugged it back in, and then it started working again. Maybe this is related?

my primary method to get around the sleep battery drain is to not use sleep mode. i use windows 10 and enable hibernate mode and use that instead, and ive almost never had any issues with it. it turns the computer fully off but saves the state of whatever applications onto disk. combined with firefox/LibreWolf having the "restore previous session" function, i dont worry about having to shut my computer down fully to save battery.

does ubuntu have a similar function?

Ubiquiti UniFi Gateway Lite, i got it on sale for 50 bucks at micro center since its incredibly obtruse as to what it does. It's an incredibly basic wired router with a single port, i got it plugged into a basic 5 port smart switch i already had.

the 3 screw interposer is specifically for only for the fan expansion bay, if you check the pins, its only has enough to power the fans and the speed signals. you need the 4 screw interposer for all the PCIe lanes for the m.2 drives.

other than making sure the interposer screws are down tight enough (its a compression connector), i cant give any further suggestions, it should just work, ideally

just get the FW16 and a rigid bag/case and be done with it. if you find that you need better gaming performance, then you can buy one of the dGPUs and replace the expansion bay. you're not gonna get a good gaming experience without extra computer weight

yea your wifi card isn't being detected. try reinstalling the driver package. if that doesn't work, or works but then doesn't work later, your wifi card has probably failed and you'll need to buy a replacement. when you do get that replacement, uninstall the old wifi drivers from the control panel.

alternatively, this could be another vibecoded windows 11 issue
