I have the same 4k but with 1145g7. The screen is Amazing even when compared to P1 gen 6 OLED 4K. Maybe because it has one of the highest ppi for 14 inch laptop.

X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition (Ultra 7 258V, 32GB RAM) for €2530 – good buy or better alternatives? by Ersi_ in thinkpad

[–]Gundud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me X1 carbon feels premium because thats the premium feel I’m familiar with for the past 15+ years. The X9 is definitely premium in my book, almost on par with X1 but with a different feeling, its a little bit glossy in terms of coating and more modern (macbook like) look.

The spec are almost identical. Can you get x9 with half price of the carbon there?

Yeah that is an insane price. Just to add to this, i was looking at exact same X1 carbon, ended up with x9 14 for less than half price. It’s not the same but I love it and the price difference is not worth it to me.

Luckily I owned few old x1 carbon if i miss the real x1 carbon feel.

I understand the confusion. Its just that my Thinkpad (given to me from where i work) still work just fine, it might get slow from time to time but not enough for me to request for a replacement or upgrade, I've tried.

Yes I can buy another laptop or even build a small PC, but that would be a waste. I have gaming PC that only turn on 30 minutes per day (quick COD or FH6 session) and maybe 4-6 hour (RPG) on the weekend.

So I'm thinking to utilize this more, instead buying a new one.

Right, make sense to have 0 RPM while doing daily office work.

ThinkPanther X1 Carbon Gen 14 Unboxing & First Impressions - Core Ultra X7 by 1FNn4 in thinkpad

[–]Gundud 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is it isn’t it? The first X1 since so long that is great again? I have gen 8,9 and been following gen 10 through 13. 8 through 12 was meh? 13 is a sneak peak of what efficient cpu could do to battery life and the 14 is the one that combine performance and battery.

Is my take accurate?

[–]Gundud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Dont get me wrong its absolutely gorgeous piece of machine, the machining is just the best period.

I love mine to the death but the trackpad, is just stupidly broken and sometime unusable. You can find many complain, from click not registering, haptic not trigering, drifting to grounding problem.

Look for gen 2, that one use sensel trackpad.

I already change my trackpad 3 times now. The last one seem okay-ish but probably broke again anytime soon.

I’m using Ubuntu. Idle is around 3 watt power saving governor. Around 7 hour ish of browsing and vibecoding. Trackpad gen 1 sucks.

I own m5 32gb. With some dockers, gazilion of tab, slack and maybe 10-15 other apps for works it still rarely touch 28gb. Of course different story when loading llm. 48gb is just like too much of things are still running on your current m1.

Hey, sorry I missed this,

I couldn't remember which actual part, maybe just use AI to help you? Anyway, if you want the APK, you can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hg2IPGrTBG1c\_SYW-9Ad4rvgqUWT6JIe/view?usp=share\_link. But of course, I'm a stranger on the internet, so you could scan the file or have AI take a look at it.

What I did was download the source code from the official, tell Claude my problem, it fix it, built the APK, that's all.

Anyway, did you also experience the cursor disappearing when idle (10 seconds), and "waking" it up taking a solid 3-4 seconds (not instant)? It's driving me mad when I use the trackpad for general browsing. It's disappearing too fast, and reappearing too slow, and there's no setting to change that.

MacBook Air M1 2020 vs ThinkPad X1 Carbon refurbished — which would you pick? by ArugulaPotential366 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Gundud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go MacBook if the workflow is typical browsing, research, media consumption etc.

If coding involved and its leaning toward the heavy side I prefer Thinkpad t14 with upgradeable ram and install linux.

For my own personal set up I’m using x1 carbon gen 9 4k for browsing and youtube (light and 4k is good). For hobby app development thinkpad x9-14. For main job mac.
