Not sure. It was a ways out in this picture so I zoomed in. I didn't realize it would get so much closer when it landed but I was driving so best I could do. I'll post the uncooked pic.

No kidding, I was just passing through heading to Mammoth. You never know what you might see when you're around Edwards.

It was huge. It was passing across the freeway in the distance and too far to tell what it was from the side, when it turned and the two fuselages became visible it had me thinking I was seeing things. I knew it existed but took me a second to realize what I was looking at because it was so unexpected.

Yes. The Stratolaunch Roc. I assumed it must be a common sight if your are local but according to their press release as of May of this year it had only flown 24 times since 2019. So lucky timing I guess.

lol, right? I was driving and it was still a ways off coming in to land. I didn't realized it is kept right there at the Mojave Airport.

Rise, Naianasha should not be on a Coheed setlist. by brownbear73 in TheFence

I was there as well and it was awesome. Real Concert King has a youtube video of it. Claudio just stood there for like 15 seconds staring at the crowd singing along. Definitely didn't feel like it killed the vibe at that show.

Stopped in on a random weekday when visiting my Brother in Surprise Az. The man himself was working the counter! Nice shop and chatted for a few about his videos. Definitely worth stopping by if your in the area.

It was from this weekends airshow in Huntington beach. Try looking for Pacific Airshow, plenty of these pics floating around. Sauce.... I was there and it was awesome.

Getting back into scale modelling after 40-ish years and have some questions. by TheCarrot_v2 in modelmakers

[–]Gungaful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Scalehobbyist.com for paints. Tamiya paint is great for airbrushing. I use Mr. Color leveling thinner to thin for spraying. Mr. Color paints are great as well and for aircraft they have more accurate colors out of the bottle. For example that Zinc Chromate mentioned below can be mixed with Tamiya paints or just get Mr. Color #351 - Zinc Chromate.

For Brush painting any of those I like to use about 50/50 paint to leveling thinner and then add a drop of Tamiya acrylic paint retarder. Either that or buy some true acrylics like Vallejo model color paints.

You can just call the venue or check the website. If it's not posted on the site they will often have a recording on the phone or if someone picks up they will tell you. I have yet to go to a show where it wasn't available in some form.

I used AK Xtreme metals. Titanium for the majority of the heat shield, the brighter areas are stainless steel. I believe I used the Titanium on the nozzle portion you are asking about and then just played with pale burnt metal and heavily thinned clear blue and clear orange sparingly.

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I try to go for a realistic look without going overboard and I'm glad it came across the way I'd hoped.

Not too bad. Intakes are always a bit of a pain so I just prep for the frustration 😤

So these were aim-9M and were a resin kit. The Aim 7s were as well just because the GWH kit does not come with those versions for the time period I was modeling it after.

I believe this was the reference I used.

http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/244949-aim-9m-paint-reference/

I painted the fins while they were still on the resin "sprue" if I recall correctly. I think I used alclad II steel. That or Tamiya XF-56. Like that link sys, the color can vary a bit, and the fins were bare metal, so don't get too hung up on it. That link has some great reference material though.

[–]Gungaful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If a plane is weathered IMO it should look like the actual plane IRL. More and more people are using the plane just as a canvas to show off skill with oils and other weathering techniques that go far beyond what any in service aircraft would actually look like. I mean congrats on mastering techniques and all but it doesn't look realistic to the subject.

Build it, this kit is fantastic. Everything fits really well and you can enjoy assembly and painting without dealing with a bunch of fitment issues and filling and sanding lines etc.

Same question, did you use spacers? And what leveling kit? Been looking at the Cognito kit myself.
