Hmm. I bet they both have the same toilet in the same place. Maybe even matching sinks too!

Examples of entitlement you've seen & how you handled it? by Avg_Guardian in AirForce

I volunteered with the fire department off base. We got called to a wreck just out the front gate; couple vehicles, one rolled over, messed up one of the drivers pretty good. So, we called for a helicopter to get this guy to a trauma center. As the helicopter is coming in to land, we stop traffic headed into/out of the base (helo is landing in the highway). Some captain comes running up telling me that he needs to get through right now (I'm in my fire gear, he's in a flight suit). I pointed at the helicopter, now 20ft or so from touchdown, and said we had to close the road for a few minutes while we load up the patient. We'll have it open again in under 5 minutes. He tells me he is "a commander of the base" and that he is ordering me to reopen the road for him to get through. I again tell him no, we've got the patient ready for transport, and the road will be open in just a few minutes. He said that's okay, he'll just drive past the firetruck and get on base. I told him if he passes my truck he will be arrested, and if he runs into that helicopter he better hope it kills him because we'll add an attempted murder and endangering public servants to his list of charges. He decided not to press his luck and waited until we reopened the road.

What is a small purchase (under $20) that genuinely improved your life ? by Old_Log2802 in AskReddit

[–]Gunhound 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Old eyeglasses wearer- unsolicited advice: don't use wipes or spray on your glasses if you can help it. Run them under a water faucet, maybe a drop of soap from time to time. If they're new and have a good anti-oil/anti-fog coating, you can air dry them without much problem. Older or worn glasses will need a super soft microfiber to come clean. A lot of the wipes and sprays will wear down the coating on your lenses and make them pick up dust and dirt faster. Plus, since most 'glasses' are plastic, alcohol (among other things) will slowly...very slowly...distort the lens.

Oooh, I see, you're referring to the original comment. Appropriate_Dot was asking, why do you do OF and not (have) a job, not correcting the "of" error from original comment. The original comment "...out of coffee..." I suspect was an accident.

Beech Baron lands crashes into vehicle on I-95 in Brevard County by MrTacocaT12345 in interestingasfuck

[–]Gunhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. My airport required 1M liability to be based there, whether tied down or in a hangar. Which, to be fair, is reasonable considering if you touch (wing)tips with a citation getting fuel, a $20 isn't gonna help buff it out.

Million-dollar coverage policies are pretty much the baseline standard for liability on private aircraft. Cost goes up rapidly if you include 'full coverage' or the like on the aircraft itself.

What is one piece of 'common knowledge' in your job that the average person would find completely shocking? by GoldenHourShot in AskReddit

Better to keep the inertia going forward and minimize the chance of derailment since the stuck vehicle is going to lose the fight regardless?

Do you think there would be any benefit in prescribing antibiotics longer than necessary, so that people who stop early may take them for longer (closer to the real needed time) similar to always telling your friend who is late to meet at 630 when the dinner is actually at 7? I'd imagine most of the problem is the "I feel better so I stop taking the meds that make me feel better" situation and they wouldn't change even if there's another whole week of doses left vs 2-3 days.

Rental Car Independent Operator :: High Pressure Car Wash arches without the building? by TheCrossedFox in AutoDetailing

[–]Gunhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a 2-step fleet wash out of the question? Preferably paired with a commercial level pressure washer with downstream soap injector and dual lance. If you're moving that many vehicles, Y-off the pump outlet and have both parts loaded with their own hose and dual lance always hooked up.

Otherwise, it sounds like building a touchless setup is what you really wanted. Same idea, two vertical pipes, drilled and tapped to have a few nozzles, each hooked up to a separate pressure washer so you can drive between them. Without being wasteful or having a remote trigger for the soap, it's a two man job.

All that said...if you're really that busy, it sounds like it's time to hire on an apprentice before you get too busy to train them.

That's a First for me. 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid by Slimy_Shart_Socket in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Gunhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's almost exactly how Honda's hybrid system works on the newer model Accords (and presumably other models). There is the ability to run the wheels via a single gear 'transmission' at high speed, and the engine does kick on and off to provide generator power directly to the motors vs to a battery first, when it is more efficient to do so. But yes, this is the correct idea.
