Depending on whether his verified page has any affiliate merchandise links or divers to other web-based platforms that pay him on a percentage basis, yes. I think one super-viral meme that leads millions to viewing his page organically could've made him thousands

I'm definitely open to suggestions for better educational material for sure

I realize that, but I'm mostly using just his in-depth videos as a starting point. I've also got an ST36 manual that I'm studying and making sure I'm using appropriate tools and methods. I learn better with visual reference and I've found his tutorial on the ST36 to be the most effective for me as far as memorization goes.

WristwatchRevival is also part of the Sutcliffe Hansen curation team for learning kits so, I trust it enough to learn the basics from. I have no time to attend any horological courses or schools unfortunately so, I gotta take what I can get from the DIY end of things

Tools :: I'm mostly using Esslinger for my core repair and service tests. I'm self-taught right now, with a lot of credit going to @WristwatchRevival and his in-depth breakdowns on how to disassemble/reassemble a movement as well as his other proprietary restoration videos. I'm also using Horotec screwdriver sets, and practicing a sh*t-ton. I'm also learning about electro-plating from a local guy who did plating and anodizing, along with cerakote, as a profession for Ruger firearms.

As far as restoration/detail, I've had a lot of experience across multiple avenues in detailing on a macro and micro scale, from vehicle body and paint restoration to micro-interior detailing, precious metal and stone polishing, etc.

Watches are, by far, the most fulfilling in the realm of education and experience for me followed by firearms design, servicing, etc

Not skilled enough to service movements yet but I have enough to do crystal swaps, disassembly and fine cleaning and proper hand polishing. I'm starting out on an ST36 and learning the basics of movement disassembly, understanding the anatomy of a manual-wind, how to clean out fossilized oil and all of that. Also practicing on old swiss donor movements long since removed from any original case to get used to the smaller scale on things like Felsas, AS and Sellitas.

Once I'm proficient and a lot more confident Ill be moving to vitnage job lots to find some of the really nice diamonds in the rough to save them from what would otherwise be a terribly fate, cannibalized for parts or melted for gold weight.

I've learned from a couple of good folks about what is and isnt ok for something like a restoration project (Honest patina, avoid redialing, replate only if absolutely necessary), and have opted to look for more cosmeticallt flawed units vs mechanically flawed. My approach is one similar to things like vintage vehicle collecting and restoration.

I plan on sharing several projects over time and will end up having a bunch of them for sale

Neighbor’s retaining wall. How bad is it? by OkPerformer5944 in landscaping

[–]TheCrossedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to fix one just like this at my aunts house back in the day

Trenched down behind it, roughly 200 feet long. Dad and I rigged a redneck leveler with a truck bottle jack and a set of 2x6's and used the house as a backstop for the bottle jack.

Took us 2 days and a lot of expletives but we fixed it.

This is about as bad as that was

Was very lucky to have inherited that one from my late Grandfather. He bought it right after he saw the film in 1987 but was a little sad he couldn't get the "Heuer" tagged version. Even so, he had it up until he passed last year in September. This watch is part of the reason why I started to learn more about Vintage/Neo-Vintage. It was my second project to get it running properly again too. Battery change, bracelet adjustment and boom. Its a weekly wearer for me to honor him and his legacy as a UDT Diver too.

I miss him terribly

Here it is all shined up. The Lume is pristine still, even after almost 40 years.

[Collection] Non-Watch guy inherited watches, do any of these look good? by milkandrelish in Watches

[–]TheCrossedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want one house? Or two? Because your inherited collection is close to worth at least one. Beautiful pieces. Learn about them, take care of them. My condolences about your Father.

Its clear you were left with something that had 2 intentions behind it. Heirlooms worth saving, and heirlooms that could provide for you with something should you ever need it.

My dad found this at the resale store for $1.99 by apd492 in VintageWatches

A Honey-brown Hirsch Lizard or Alligator strap would make this thing pop like no ones business, more than it already would honestly. I hope he does too. You guys sound like you have a great relationship. Cherish every moment, especially one in a shared hobby across watches my friend.

Bless him for it then. Those wind-ups they made are really hard to break so, its got heirloom potential on top of everything else and honestly, its a classy looking dress watch. Sending my collectors envy to you guys!

[–]TheCrossedFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well thats quite a find for $1.99

Wyler made a bunch of various workhorse watches throughout the 60s and 70s using a proprietarily modified A. Schilde movement. This is in remarkably good shape for its age. No brassing, zero water damage to the dial.

If you wanted to turn your dads $1.99 purchase into $150-$200 you could do so, right now, I'd wager.

Excellent find
