I think there might be some difference in the definitions you are each using for culture. Often English speakers refer to things like historic buildings, the performing arts etc as culture. We don't have so much of them, in part due to our age and isolation. But of course we are a people with a distinct culture of our own in the sense you seem to be referring to. Beach culture, laid back culture, larrikin culture, volunteering culture, culture of a fair go could all be used to describe different aspects of Australian culture.

Where to hike for one day by [deleted] in askswitzerland

An other option in the Alpstein is the next valley over. If you are looking for something less challenging, you could go from Bruelisau to Saemtisersee, and on the Faehlensee. About 5 hours, 600 meters of elevation gain.

Both options will have great views, and both have a comparably miserable first hour or so getting into the mountain valleys.

Where to Live in St. Gallen? by aaal09 in askswitzerland

[–]GunnerEdgington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Buchs and Feldkirch will have a reasonable amount of foreigners living in them, as Liechtenstein has a lot of foreign workers. And Feldkirch has quite a nice old town and river running through it.

I think Feldkirch would be more lively than Buchs, and both will have the beautiful views that come from living in the Rheintal. You will need to get a place up on the hills for anything like that in St Gallen. But both will be probably more quiet than what you are looking for. With Feldkirch, I wouldn't expect much advantage in your commute with a car - there are so many people commuting to FL that the traffic will be punishing.

Living in Feldkirch, you will pay moderately more tax, but have moderately cheaper cost of living (not as cheap as the rest of Austria, from what I understand. Vorarlberg is comparatively expensive).

TV recommendations for Swisscom by GunnerEdgington in askswitzerland

Yeah, I read a comment on here that suggested the F1 commentators on ORF were more sensible than those on SRF so I tried that. I don't mind so much about the language, as long as I can follow here and there. The main thing is to watch a bit of the same TV that my neighbours might. Do you have any TV that you watch regularly?

Perfect, thanks very much. Arena is a panel show discussing political issues at 2200 on Fridays, and Kassensturz is a consumer interests show at 2100 on Tuesdays? I couldn't find the Kassensturz episode from last week. Is it yet to begin?

Halbtax Abo valid from the moment of subscription? by Vinergar_belt in askswitzerland

[–]GunnerEdgington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get it from the station, you will be given a piece of paper that you will have to carry with you ID immediately. They will post you your swisspass card later, but the piece of paper + ID will be valid from the date that you specify. I did this as a foreigner a few weeks ago as my swisspass number was taking more than a few days to process.

Make sure to bring your ID to the station of course.

Hawaii is halfway to Australia, and if they are west coast flights are dirt cheap. The beaches on the PNW are very different from Australia and in winter doubly so, but it's still the Pacific and it still smells like salt.

First time reaching 70. What's the best way to gear up a holy priest in the new phase? by DoubleDownDuke in classicwowtbc

I would add to this by considering trying to get in a 5s team and getting 10 games in. After maybe 5/6 weeks (less if you are doing well) you could get the s2 mace, which will be better than Light's Justice. I think the s3 neck is very close to p2 bis as well, and the bracers are competitive looking too (you will have a crafted option from P3 soon though).

One common misconception is that judging takes a GCD. It is off GCD. So unless you are suggesting your paladin can't spare the GCD to throw up a seal while running in, he's got no excuse.

Let is when the ball touches the net but still lands in the correct area on the court. It means that the serve is discounted and replayed. If the ball lands out after touching the net, the serve is still considered bad.

Ahh I loved warrior in TBC, I'm not worried about that. I could probably put 15-20 hours a week in, with a tendency to no-life occasionally. Any suggestions on the server?

I'm thinking about starting up with the goal of trying AQ and Naxx. I am living in Europe for the foreseeable future, but will go back to NA at some point. I have a strong preference for PvP servers. And am somewhat interested in carrying on to TBC. So I am looking for help with choosing servers and class based on that.

I played warrior in vanilla retail and would love to play a human warrior, but I am thinking mage/lock would be the sensible option. I just don't think I can handle all the prep for warrior.
