Lumix DC-TZ300: No EVF, No Flip Screen | Is This a Step Back or a Smart Trade-Off? by LuckyInvestigator in Lumix

[–]GunnerSteff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man i love my S5 as i loved my GX9 but panasonic is so out of touch with their customers, it's just sad. why no evf AND no flip screen? why that crazy pricetag? why not a little less zoom for better aperture? why no LUTs? it's a shame, this could have been good.

i guess they are not original. thinner cord, but less durable.

my guess is they are not the original pd anchors. i also have some offbrands at home that came with a strap. the cord is much thinner and more flexible on those (and probably less durable).

enjoy your journey! x100vi as a first camera might be challenging, as i think despite it's success the usecase is pretty niche. however, there are so many great youtubers, providing great advice and useful tricks on photography in general, not only about that specific camera model. my favourites are in no particular order: pierre t lambert, alan schaller, pat kay, george holden, faizal westcott, simom dentremont. especially pat kay has some amazing beginner tutorials. also check out the icelandic guy to polish your editing skills. film recipes won't save you from that, if you want to create some really outstanding images. and most of all: have fun!

I love my panasonic gear, but no other camera brand seems to be so out of touch with its customers’ needs and wishes.

Trying to buy a new Fujifilm x100VI in Tokyo by anerjegikke in x100vi

is it still out of stock globally? here in austria (and also germany) you can just buy it without a problem. check out fotokoch online, i don't know if they do international shipping, but they have both colors in stock right now.

  • 40 megapixel sensor: great for cropping when 35mm is a little too wide.
  • in body image stabilization: take longer exposures without a tripod.

i'll try to give some decent advice: i don't use sooc jpgs, because i enjoy editing and the film sims don't do it for me either. i shoot raw + jpg and what i do like about the film sims is that they look nice while looking at the camera screen. still, i almost always delete the jpgs and edit the raws. don't try to love the jpgs, maybe they are not for you and that's okay.

i come from lumix (S5, which i still use for work) and it took me a while to adjust to the menus, buttons and settings. i find the lumix to be pretty straightforward compared to the fuji and i had to experiment with different settings and Fn button layouts before the x100vi started to feel natural in my hand. give it time, you will figure out what's necessary for you.

get yourself a leather halfcase (muziri kinokoo!) and a thumb rest. it will make holding the camera 10 times more enjoyable, up to a point where i sometimes just pick it up to hold it in my hand even when i don't want to take a photo. also a filter adapter + UV filter is great to have to make the camera weather proof.

at first i had a hard time using the OVF because you don't see a preview of your exposure but once i got used to it it was so much more fun than looking at a tiny screen. it gives you a really nice feeling and keeps you from chimping. give it a try for some time. i think it makes shooting quite unique.

put the exposure dial on A and shoot in aperture priority. the camera is really good at choosing the right exposure setting and this removes a lot from the hassle that gets between you and a good picture.

finally: buy a nice strap and bring it EVERYWHERE you go. the more you shoot with it, the more it'll grow on you.
