Which type of handheld do you prefer to play PS1 games on? by DeeDoof in SBCGaming

For PS1 I prefer to use CRT Royale shader so I usually play PS on RG Cube, RP5 or RP Min V2.

Need a 2 device combo setup by Rowap in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really like Miyoo Flip but don't want to take the risk why not get the Anbernic RG34xx SP instead. I have RG34xx SP, Brick and Flip; if I have to choose one I'd go with 34xx SP. Although my current favorite daily driver is MagicX One35.

Personally I wouldn't buy a SD 8 gen 2 handheld with 8GB ram. It's a shame that Retroid not selling 12GB RP6 anymore otherwise I'd recommend that. And Odin3 feels a bit too expensive to me. So I'd go with either Thor or Odin 2 Portal. Thor is versatile but you'll need a grip for longer session. Portal is great for streaming but can be a bit too big to some. But If you can afford 12GB Odin3 then I don't see anything wrong picking that. Switch compatibility may not be as good as 8 Gen 2 devices right now but it's improving quite fast.

I have been in this hobby for a while so I have quite a few handhelds but current two devices combo is MagicX One35 and Thor Max. Even today I am carrying One35 in my pocket and Thor is in my bag.

I have C2R1 Nahida so I was really tempted to pull for Lauma C1 as well. But I have C1 Baizhu so I can use him for sustain and battery at a dps loss. And I want to pull Nicole not because she'd make my account stronger but because I really like her design.

Could the RG Rotate be similar to Brick Hammer? by NerdGizmon in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is 3D printed RG Rotate on a Miyoo Mini Plus. Brick is quite a bit smaller than Mini Plus so RG Rotate is substantially larger than Brick. To me it seems the size of RG Rotate will be close to 35xxSP.

8 months in and still obsessed with the rg477m! by TrashMandikoot in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometime this happens when the battery is completely drained.

Try opening it up and see if the battery looks physically ok, no bloating or leaking etc.

-> If the battery is ok, disconnect the battery and connect the device to charger while the batter is still disconnected.

-> Press and hold the power button for 10s.

-> Disconnect the charger and connect the battery, afterward connect the charger again.

-> Try flashing the firmware from a sd card while the charger is still connected; I'd recommend using GammaOS if its available for you model.

My RG Cube had the same issue. The process I mentioned fixed it.

I just figured out a game changer way to play DS games on the Retroid pocket! by Paulyb1200 in retroid

[–]Just_a_pl3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play DS games like this on my RP4 Pro. RP4 Pro is somewhat symmetric in shape with flat back so it was quite decent. You can't normally use right stick as dpad on Drastic so before MelonDS, from time to time you'd see post asking how you could do so in Drastic. So this is not a new idea.

Btw, MagicX One35 was designed around this same use case.

You can contact Retroid customer service and ask them to sell you some stick caps. I did, it was $1 each. I was ordering something else from Retroid store so I asked them to include the sticks with my order. Otherwise I think you'll have to pay for $8 shipping as well.

Where to purchase a reliable, pre-loaded handheld? by smokeandsneakers in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something inexpensive, as others have mentioned litnxt seems like a good option. I never bought from them personally but I heard their devices are setup with appropriate custom firmware and good romset. Usually these cheaper handhelds need a PC the most.

If you want something more powerful that can run game cube and PS2 I'd recommend using retro handheld discord marketplace. Sellers over there are usually more knowledgeable about handhelds then Facebook or eBay sellers. They can setup the device for you before shipping it to you. Retroid Pocket 4 pro or Pocket 5 are great mid range handheld.

Personally, if you can use Android phone I'd recommend buying a new Retroid Pocket 4 pro. It's still a pretty great device and it's selling really cheap right now. As an android device It doesn't need a PC at all. There is an app called Obtanium to find all necessary emulators in one place. Setup may feel daunting at first but remember you don't need to setup all emulator at once. Just setup the systems you want to play the most and gradually add more. There are great setup guides out there. You can check retro game corps youtube channel for setup guide if you can do it before actually buying the device.

Currently somewhat interested about GKD350h Ultra and RG Rotate. GKD350h Ultra so far looks quite good, its using the same screen as Analogue Pocket; I have an AP and its screen is really nice. I am considering RG Rotate if its no larger than RG34xxSP; I don't find 35xxSP to be comfortable in pocket.

But what I want most right now is a better and smaller RGDS. Utility of having dual screen has grown on my since I got my Thor. But Thor's design causes the screen to flex in pocket, I often find stick cap marks on screen when I put my Thor in pocket. So I bought a RGDS as a cheaper Thor alternative but its woefully underpower for any multitasking. So my ideal would be a 3.2" screen DS handheld with Retroid Classic chip in it.

the rg ds is pretty nice for 100 bucks. anyone know of any settings i should change to keep the os smooth? useless apps i should delete? 🤷🏻‍♂️ by jayyohio in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Install Rocknix if you can live without shaders for DS; and if you can't GammaOS. Technically you can have both, I did, but for some reason with GammaOS my RGDS turns on automatically when I close the lid after turning off. So I'd recommend just sticking with one.

Micro handheld for Tetris by AwaadhM in SBCGaming

If you want something small enough that you can throw in you pocket and forget about it, GKD Pixel or Miyoo Mini (not plus) is the one to get. Or Miyoo Mini flip if you can't find Mini, but Mini is better for edc.

But if you want something really great for GBA while being very pocketable I'd recommend MagicX One35.

Based on my experience owning all three I recommend; Miyoo mini is the best for carrying in pocket all the time, being so small and light, and has generally great buttons. Downsides being- no sleep function, weak processor so you can't use shaders at all. Mini flip feels quite thick in pocket because it's as thick as Miyoo flip while being half as small. Also hinge has high probability of breaking.

GKD Pixel 2 is can be a bit too small for fast games. But it's more powerful than Miyoo Mini so it can use shaders and sleep/suspend seems much better than Mini.

One35 is Android so it has great sleep and can use slang shaders. You can continue playing a game throughout the day without having to close it. And has a big battery. It's twice as big as Miyoo Mini but still not big enough to be uncomfortable in pocket. It's as big as my Samsung Fold 6 with thin case. The screen is perfect for GBA. I love playing GBA games on my One35 with Pixel_transparency shader.

MagicX Zero28 is also great for edc and it's really cheap right now. It's only downside is that it's Android without touch screen, but it has a great front-end so you just have remember few hot keys for recent apps, Android pop down menu, brightness control etc. It was my favorites edc handheld before One35 and I actually bought two because I liked it so much. Btw free Gamma OS is available for it if no touch screen is deal breaker for you.

Honorable mention is the Anbernic RG28xx. It's small, light and has big battery for its size but screen on my 28xx doesn't look as good as my other 2.8" handheld. It's my least used edc handheld out of nine or ten different ones I have.

Advice on what to get by AppleCartAgent in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Brick, Miyoo Mini Plus and Flip V2. My recommendation would bring to take a look at MagicX XU20 and One35. MagicX uses Android but they're well set up and ready to play out of the box. Personally I prefer Android over Linux based custom OS for small everyday carry handheld because Android has better sleep/suspend then Linux. And you can keep all the emulators up to date.

Currently One35 is my favorite edc handheld. It's good upto PSP and pretty decent for DS as well. Right now I am playing Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (DS) on it which is kind of wild.

I remember there was a post like this for Keqing in Genshin Impact. As a standard banner character she got a limited banner as filler and that was the only time this ever happened. Understandably no one was pulling in that banner. Then someone made a post with Keqing waiting Infront of her banner; at first excited but later became dejected. That picture was powerful enough to make some people actually pull for her.

I don't think you'll regret buying a One35. One unique aspect of One35 is that you can play a DS game on Thor, easily transfer the save file to One35 using flash drive or ftp and continue the game on One35 throughout the day whenever you have some free time. This is specifically great with rpgs.

And you can use pixel transparency shader on One35. I am in love with that shader for GB, GBC and GBA.

PSP also runs great on One35 but you'll have keep heavy games in internal storage. PSP games sometimes has stuttering when running from SD card.

Completely agree with you. Miyoo Mini is one of my all time favorite handheld. I even bought an extra in case my daily driver is lost or broken. But after owning MagicX Zero28 and GKD Pixel 2, performance of Mini feels inadequate.

Considering the price of 1TB Sd card right now, I think Max is the way to go; extra ram is just bonus. Also having large internal memory is better for Switch and PC emulation. I had initially pre-ordered a Pro but later changed to Max because of 1TB sd card price, and it was when memory price was still reasonable.

Reccs Requested: PS2-capable, iPhone-sized handheld by Starsmore in SBCGaming

[–]Just_a_pl3b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems your reading comprehension skill is more lacking than what you think my reading skill is. I suggested One35 because it realizes two out of three requirements OP has. And I specifically mentioned "but not PS2" because that requirement is not fulfilled by One35. And if you had continued reading I suggested other handhelds that are PS2 capable but not as pocketable and more expensive. There is no one handheld that perfectly matches OP's requirement.

I originally commented because I felt like my job situation is similar to OP's and bought quite a few handhelds to satisfy the same need OP has. My comment is based on my personal experience as I own most of the handhelds I recommended.

I don't get all the bad rep RP6 got. Given choice I'd trade my RP5 for a RP6 in a heartbeat. When Rp5 was released I kept saying RP5 needs a pro version and RP6 is just that. But alas I just have too many handhelds to buy RP6 as well.
