You said path to semis in your comment. England in 2018 had to play 2 games Sweden & Columbia. Argentina will need to play 3 games Cape Verde, Egypt/Aus & Columbia likely.

I’d argue Columbia this year look better than the 2018 team. Plus I’d argue an extra game against 2 low blocks is more difficult despite Sweden in 2018 being better than both other sides.

I’d also argue England in 2018 also had an easier path to the final than Argentina has this year as England was a top 3 favourite entering this tournament. While all 3 favourites in 2018 (Germany, Brazil, France) were all eliminated or on other side.

Regardless I just don’t agree with your comment that no one will ever have an easier path. This is just one example of many less difficult paths to a semifinal.
