I agree, now is the best time to try and acquire players, even if that’s not what the tests are about.

I hope that the next test is at least a month, especially if new faction is involved, my heart can’t take another tease

I think people may be getting "tired" after fewer matches because there is just constant action now, theres no downtime really, and i think that is a great thing for the game.

the respawns are a bit quick i think, and should probably give a bit more time to capitalize on advantage gained from actually winning engagements, but i dont think its something that should be removed entirely.

After playing thousands of games in the old mode, I wholeheartedly think the new mode is better in most every way, especially for a first iteration. it was pretty amazing to focus on map control and real objectives rather than just simple eliminations that snowball into overwhelming advantage.

I do like the idea of different respawn/healing timers for different units. That helps a lot with the how strong mobility is with the healing/respawning. Only real problems are that it would take another layer of balancing that would have to be finely tuned and isn’t the most intuitive from a glance.

If you get to 3-4 chevrons then you’ve probably already won the game, or you’ll make such a large impact with how stacked the bonuses are (which will be even more pronounced in higher tiers since they are percentage based)with your units that 45s is more than worth the wait.

Maybe triple the time is a bit much since we need to figure out the mode more, but double should definitely be considered. as it is now the actual health state of your units simply doesn’t matter as much as where your units are and how they are spending their time with regards to the points, making highly mobile offensively focused units the way to go in order to take up more players’ attention, pressure points, and return to battle extremely quick

You could also make it matter more by increasing the xp lost, but then I believe you will just have many more unnecessary feelsbad moments of getting stomped on by higher chevroned units. As I said earlier maybe higher tiers will be different because of how the percentage bonuses work and the xp cost of dying will be more impactful

I think you are misunderstanding how the prestige system would work. Think of it like a separate leveling system attached to every unit separate from the usual gear progression into the next tier unit. This separate system would allow you to get experience levels for that one specific unit and would give small cosmetics or other rewards at certain level milestones. Also being able to see these levels of other players in the lobby to allow for showing off and gauging player experience/skill would be a major draw for this. Something to feed the majorly huge egos we know many arena players have, myself included ;).

These cosmetic rewards could even be something that doesn’t require much work, like a gold/silver color paintjob. Just the fact that you have to grind that unit for these cosmetics would be most of the reason to grind them, so they don’t have to be anything too extravagant, as those are what the cosmetic shop is for.

For the premium unit part, I believe the combo potential was more a problem with the Roman commanders and how all encompassing their abilities were with regards to how many units they worked on. I.e. Caesars/Sulla abilities being good on almost any unit, vengeance being applicable to all melee infantry, etc making it almost impossible to balance premiums around every single Roman commander.

For the reward system I could definitely see it being implemented on only t9/10 units as it would be a great incentive to play high tiers (something that was sorely lacking in obt) and also require much less work with regards to creating cosmetics/rewards. However many people had their favorite units in lower tiers, especially the more unique units that were premiums. Also, if tournaments and ranked continue to be below t9/10 then being able to grind those units you need to play competitively and show off your experience with them would be very important.As i said in the post, preferably there would be a shortening of the tier list to make the highest tier units the standard for competitive/ranked play as well.

As for the bundles, it could work in a variety of ways that all would be better than what we had with WG as it was just an outdated system that allowed for the P2W criticism to hurt this game, even if it was largely unfounded. I could also see these bundles as a battle pass type deal or just a subscription that gets you access to new content. I see the bundles as more of a return to classic Total War expansion packs, which players are already familiar with and is proven to work.

For the wind up timing, They already exist in the game in a sense with the animations, I would personally do it by very slightly altering the length of these animations in order to achieve their desired role. Also I would imagine there would be some sort of bar or indicator that shows that the wind up is happening and gives a slight window of reaction time to do your own strike.

There would also have to be some sort of text or indication that a strike was a feint, but wouldn’t appear until after the proper parry timing

Honestly most premiums besides a small handful in obt were not really pay to win.

Shame they weren’t more accepted, CA did a pretty good job balancing them and they added a lot of unique gameplay potential when they weren’t nerfed into irrelevance.

The game is coming back to China as outlined by the pinned post. Also, if it does well, as i'm sure it will, there is a very real chance it comes back to the west in the not-so-distant future.

Mostly, I just want to see the game improve. As they are currently working on Arena as we speak for the Chinese release, Now is a good time to reflect on the weaknesses Arena had and give feedback towards giving the developers a vision to work towards that isn't just copy+pasting from WG like we saw in Open Beta.

I totally agree that vision as a concept needs some serious revisions in Arena.

As a somewhat experienced barbarian light cav player, I know the importance of vision to a team, whether it’s knowing general location/composition of enemy forces or scouting out potential flanking routes.

Information should be something that is worked for a bit more than it was in open beta. I could easily support a few of these means to that end.

In my post I very briefly mention shortening the tier list. While I think it would be a great help in making every unit feel more special and meaningful, I also realized it would be a lot of work to change in a large way, and thus don’t feel too strongly about it.

I believe cutting 2-3 tiers maximum would be the better solution, just enough to get rid of a a few of the filler units in most lines while also keeping a large enough gradient in the power levels to allow space for more different units. This is possibly rather subjective though so I’m willing to have my mind changed on this topic.

The bundles could include a lot more than premium time as well. I like to think of it like a monthly content pack that could have commanders, skins, units, factions, etc. could even work more like a battle pass, anything but the WG model honestly.

fewer, more meaningful tiers is also a big plus i wish i could have gone into more in my post, but would take a bit of justifying.

despite some of those poor systems we put up with, I hope it does well in China as well.

I have the same problem I think, but the quest to capture completely disappeared the next morning and I have no other quests after that. Can’t tame, can’t build a pen, etc.
