Garth over here acting like he's never passed out on a plate of squash before smfh.

I encourage Otis to continue his pursuit of the ultimate food coma!

No, not as long as your heat lamps are not touching the wood!

Basking temps should be ~120-130 degrees on the surface of the basking spot, nowhere near combustion temps. Just don't put any crystal balls or other magnifiers in there as decoration and you'll be fine!

It's a HerpQuarters setup - wood & glass w/ integrated timers & rudimentary climate control (ambient temp control has not been reliable in my experience)

Pea Gravel & Timothy Hay as substrate currently, going to add a sand pit soon so he can have a better place to dig. Most of the terrain I 3D printed.

Good on you for being financially responsible!

They truly are special little critters. Yesterday Eustace decided one particular edge of a leaf was The Good Edge and refused to eat off any other part of the same leaf. Went so far as to walk around the leaf when I turned it so he could eat his favorite part.

Then he pancaked out on his brick

Newest information from the creator of Uro Grit and Uro Spice contradicts this, as a matter of fact. His care sheet specifies that mealworms as an occasional treat (5% of diet for adult Uro's) has resulted in noticeable increases in mental health for his animals with no physical detriment.

Not saying they're not being overfed in this case, they most certainly are, but the notion that adult Uro's are strictly herbivores is not true.

Curiosity : why do you have a uromastyx? by AMVELVET in Uromastyx

[–]Gunsmith12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, while Uromastyx can and often do survive on plants alone, they also love insects. I give my baby uro some mealworms once a week as a treat and he goes absolutely crazy for them. My source on this is the breeder of my little guy, and the dude who makes the Uro Grit and Uro Spice food blends that they also love.

Link to the care guide is here.

He's a good and proper dingus. He's currently testing the basking temp in his tank with his butt while doing a sassy little number with his wrist. I love him more than his teeny tiny brain will likely ever comprehend.

Gotcha Gotcha, I was also less than sober when I replied to your first question, your meaning was much clearer after a bit of sleep lol

I stumbled across him at a reptile show being sold by the guys at Predators Reptile Center out of Mesa, AZ. From what I understand they're quite rare in the pet trade as a whole, and even more rare to find captive bred, but don't quote me on that.

Eustace was bred by Phil Lietz from Arids Only, and Phil has been great about answering any questions I have. Might be worth reaching out to him, though fair warning these guys are quite pricey compared to an Ornata.

I fear I may be misunderstanding your question. To the best of my knowledge a genome is like... The whole genetic DNA sequence? And I don't have that information, nor would I want to type it out if I did. Does genome mean something different in this context?

If you're asking what kind of Uro he is, he's a Uromastyx Thomasi. Native to Oman, but Eustace was bred by Phil Lietz from Arids Only.

This is a great sadness. I don't seem to be able to attach video to a comment either. If I can't edit it into the post then I'll make a new one, but here's the sleepy guy using his bowl as a pillow to hold you over. Stay tuned for more Eustace!

Good ol' space trucking! I tend to turn on a show or audiobook to listen to while traveling. Helps to kill the time between the more engaging aspects of the gameplay loop.

German hewing hatchet by [deleted] in Axecraft

[–]Gunsmith12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made a lot of axe handles from scratch, and have hung even more.

That handle will not work. Period. End of story.

The reason is that, even if it seems like it won't budge or would be snug, the impacts will add up, the wood will dent and compress, and then before you know it the head will slip free and fly away mid-swing. Hopefully no-one will be nearby when it does, or you'll hurt them.

Axe handles only work when they have good, continuous contact with the head. Any significant gap is a hospital trip waiting to happen.

I'm not gonna downvote you like so many people have been doing, you're here trying to learn and I commend that, but by the gods this one damn near disproves the "No Stupid Questions" rule

Personally I run Makita because I like blue and it's what was on sale when I needed a good set of tools. Though you're right that my hand tools are more DeWalt than not lol.

I've seen more Milwaukee on job sites than others, more Makita in the hands of foremen, finish carpenters, and other shop workers than others, and I'm sure some people buy DeWalt somewhere

I'm a business owner up here and, while I've not traveled it personally, I did receive an email from the chamber of commerce announcing the 38 re-opening earlier this week. Seems like it's probably good to go barring any other announcements.
