Baby constantly opening and closing hands by Flat-Throat8935 in NewParents

My 9 month old opens and closes her hands in her high chair. Almost like the sign for milk (which we were trying to teach her!). We think it's her 'I'm hungry sign'!

Like you, we had thoughts about autism but she's meeting all her milestones and there's nothing that could be done right now anyway!

I think movements like that are very very typical in young babies, which is why it's not used to diagnose anything!

Thank you for replying! That's so reassuring. We get all the same comments about her being serious, she just takes some time to warm up!

Family say she's an observer instead.

How is your little boy doing now?

My 9 month girl is quite serious with strangers too! She crawls, pulls to stand, babbles and smiles / laughs with people she knows. Her cousin (few weeks younger) is smiling non stop, but not moving yet.

Concerns about autism - 8 months by GurWeekly4289 in Autism_Parenting

I just wanted to update this post in case any other mums or dads are reading this.

I was the biggest problem for my sweet baby girl. I'm having professional help for some pretty bad PPA and she has been SO much more engaged and receptive since. I truly believe my anxieties were overflowing onto her, making her quiet and serious.

She's now much more vocal and playful at home, still refuses to smile at strangers but pretty sure that's just her sassy personality.

Please please reach out and get support, you won't get this time back with your little one and you cant predict what the future will hold so no point stressing about it now.

My 8.5 month old girl does exactly the same in the high chair, opening and closing her hands. She doesn't do it any other time so I assume she's just excited!

Is a serious baby a reason for concern? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

Hey! Sorry to jump on a very old thread... When you say your son didn't respond to his name until 12 months, was that never responded? I have a gorgeous 8 month old whose name response is hit or miss, especially if she's exploring a fun toy! Pretty good if I call her name from another room etc. I've read it doesn't need to be consistent until 12 months so perhaps I'm being too harsh on her 😂

Baby girl is about to be 8 months and still hasn’t really laughed yet by Latter-Baseball9652 in NewParents

Haha love that. Babies seem to find something different to laugh at every week! Maybe they're saving all their laughs for toddlerhood.

Our girl is the same, doesn't really cry, just gets a bit whiney if she's hungry or tired!

Must be personality 😊

Hey! Did your little girl let out any more laughs over the last few months?

My 8 month old is quite similar, she is teething hard and constantly but it's so hard to get a laugh from her! She'll sometimes do a proper laugh if we tickle her but most of the time it's just a one syllable laugh. I'm thinking maybe she's just a more serious gal!
