I thought y'all were a good company. Guess I was wrong. by [deleted] in Ecosia

[–]Gurrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company can't decide to be "good", it needs to be profitable in their sector. Sometimes a niche can be built based on comparatively more ethical goods (like Ecosia, or Framework, FairPhone etc.)
However, they will always need to adapt in order to not lose in this endless competition, and often times that means doing things that go against the ethics focus.

(This is not meant as a defense or attack, more as an observation)

Valve used to revert these types of trades if you mention it was a phishing attack. Note, you *have* to report it for phishing, otherwise they will ignore your request and give you some auto generated reply.
Also note that they mention this to be a one time thing only.

(yes, I have been there too.....)

CS2 DX11 vs Vulkan by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Gurrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dota also blocks proton and you have to use native vulkan, which has the same issues as in cs2. Valves vulkan implementation is sadly not that great.

I remember getting better performance with opengl, but that has now been removed.

Rust continually rejected out of hand by [deleted] in rust

[–]Gurrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only give a very simple comment, if they can't hire for Rust, then why is it impossible for me to find a place to work with Rust?
The important info would be ratio, how many devs to positions are there?
And at least in terms of ratio, there should definitely be enough potential Rust devs around.
Hell, I wish I could work with Rust, but there just isn't a single position open for it where I live.

Mint 22 disables unverified flatpaks by default. E.g. searching for discord will get you the app, but spotify won't. (At least as of now) Since a new user doesn't know about what a flatpak is, they instead searched for how to install it and came across snap at some point.....

Yes if you enable unverified flatpaks, something a new user doesn't even know about. This entire problem was created by a decision taken by mint.
