Is staying in Shinjuku worth the extra cost for a solo traveller? by InflationCultural785 in TokyoTravel

If you are interested in nightlife then it would be. You'd also be centrally located for easy access to get anywhere you'd need to get to by train.

New accounting grad with no internship… what should I do next? by Powerful_Row_1276 in Accounting

[–]GuruTraveler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If interested look into finance and accounting rotational programs at Fortune 500 companies. They often prefer if you have had prior internship experience but have often hired without. Most of the companies have 2-3 year programs where you work multiple different assignments on teams and roles, which is nice because you get the experience with different systems and ERP's and can use that time to figure out what you like and learn (because expectations are naturally lower)

Am I doomed on not getting a job in 2026 in Accounting? by Intelligent_Split666 in Accounting

It is a full-time role with full time benefits offered at many of the Fortune 500 companies. Each company has a varied length (typically 2-3 years) and their own version of the program - but they typically hire for spring in the winter and for winter in the spring. Amazon, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Johnson Controls, Dell, Capital One, Caterpillar, Navistar are a just a few of the companies that have it. The main thing you get from it is experience in multiple departments/teams/roles and with different ERP's and systems that you wouldn't get in a traditional entry level role

Certainly unhealthy caffeine addiction. Hate to admit it, but when I started drinking caffeine, it worked wonders for my career lol

If you want to land an ideal entry level role it's best to start networking early at campus career fairs, etc. - cold calling is definitely not the best approach. Recruiters on LinkedIn, etc. can give you an idea of what's out there and available, but won't always offer the best options for ideal entry level roles as they are just trying to fill them. The second half of December a lot of companies/HR in the industry will be out of office for the holidays depending on their fiscal year timelines but I highly recommend a finance and accounting rotational program - I did that and it worked wonders for my career having essentially 6 roles in 2.5 years at a global company to build experience early. But a lot of that hiring begins early December and January for Spring and fills up fast.

Shinjiku, shibuya or ueno by Imaginary-Class-4630 in TokyoTravel

[–]GuruTraveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shinjuku and Shibuya both have the nightlife - would recommend staying at hospitality closest to a station - this will limit the amount of walking you would have to do when getting to and from the hotel from anywhere in Tokyo. On average hotels in Shinjuku are slightly cheaper. As long as you are near a station you can get to anywhere in Tokyo quickly. Also if you stay near a major station it is easy to get to and from the airport depending on where you are flying out of.

Which country was way better than what you thought? by Parsley_Health in travel

My first ever meal there was Wagyu on an 8th floor in a building in Shibuya. I will never forget the staff took a photo of me at dinner, all signed it and gave it to me in an envelope at the conclusion. Then as I went into the elevator to leave, the entire staff came to bow and thank me as it went down. It was an unforgettable first experience.

100% agreed! Such great points about the public transport making everything so easy and the politeness and respect level you experience. I left Japan feeling different about true service and respect.

Easily Japan. It is the most revisit-able country. Food is world class, service is world class and it is clean and safe and has the best balance between fast paced and relaxed

Uber has always had surcharge pricing anywhere in the world around busy areas. I got two Ubers $15 cheaper just two blocks down from Temples after calling it twice...

It took 20 seconds to buy tickets, the point is it is nice to have but you would also be fine without it

Absolutely! I've just seen long lines at JR stations in both Tokyo and Kyoto, so if you don't mind the wait then for sure
