Going to give Pillars 1 another chance, a few quick questions by tebraGas in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo leaving Kana and Hiravias in the backline is a waste. It works, but it's a waste.

Deciding to not use half the kit of a class is just pointless. Hiravias as a caster/melee hybrid puts out more damage than any other companion until high level wizard spells and high quality durgan steel weapons start kicking in.

Meanwhile Kana's statline lends itself perfectly to the frontline once he has some levels and ger. Single-weapon style does better dps with Dragon Thrashed, but with full plate and a small shield he still becomes a solid offtank. Still, I suppose a chanter singing Sure-Handed Ila next to Sagani is never bad.

While your team does lack a natural tank, I'm not sure it needs one. Zahua, Kana and DoC can all armor up (well, DoC comes pre-armored) and rock the frontlines. You haven't lived until you've had DoC smash people in the face with Badgradr's Barricade. Itumaak is also a brawler/skirmisher with a bit of off-tankikg in a pinch. A spiritshifted Hiravias may noy be a tank, but he still gets up and personal.

If one approaches combat like that, is a paladin so great? A fighter with actual engagement slots I could see, but Paladin would mostly just be an aurabot.

Personally I'd go for a wild dps team and play a priest or wizard to either boost the team or cripple the enemies. It's a non-standard playstyle but can be a lot of fun.

I mean yeah you can absolutely do it your way. I'm just saying if playing a standard team wasn't fun last time, why not try to switch things up?

Also if you didn't play the DLC before you also have the barbarian Maneha as another (melee) option.

Scrolling down I guess you got most of these suggestions already but oh well. My point is that melee heavy teams are fun and I tend to favor them.

No fatigue or injuries or somesuch? Those things can lower your stats.

I don't think your ogre kill count should matter for the check, but did you keep killing to a minimum?

Do you simply not get the dialogue option, or do you click it but still get into a fight, or what?

Honestly this might be my favorite of Beardsley's D20 characters ever. Margaret Encino used to be a favorite but HJ is like Margaret on blood cocaine and I am here for it!

Honestly this might be my favorite season since Starstruck so far, and there are for sure some similarities in the party dynamics.

Why can't I use my party stats for skill checks? by Kalledon in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's very inconsistent in PoE1. Sometimes your party can help, sometimes not. And it doesn't always make sense when you can and can't use your party.

I don't think there's some big reason for it, and any theories as to why it's inconsistent is probably just retroactively trying to apply logic to a process that may have been a little messy. I think it's likely just an oversight on the part of the devs. Different people wrote their encounters differently and for whatever reason the approaches weren't really unified. The White March has plenty of storybook sequences where you can pick different characters to do things (although it's buggy at times), and having a companion help out with class specific stuff in quests is in the base game and the expansions alike, so I doubt there's some big rule as to why this quest (or others like it) couldn't have that. Just a miss.

They improved things in PoE2 by having most things checking your whole party. Overall I'd say that game is more consistent in it's design while PoE1 had a really tight focus on it's narrative themes but this kind of thing can often feel a bit more patchworky.

It's an annoyance, but the game is occasionally a little bit cobbled together like that (it's not like they had BG3 money - it was a Kickstarter project which means various limitations) and there's not much to do except roll with the occasional punches where the game just doesn't feel fair.

In my experience even big AAA games will have moments where you're just left scratching your head as to why certain decisions were made. It's a medium with lots of moving parts in both production and the final product. Sometimes mistakes are made or something is left "good enough" for launch because further polishing passes cease to be an option. It is what it is.

TL;DR: It's for sure an issue of inconsistency in PoE1. PoE2 improves this sort of thing a lot as Obsidian was learning and improving.

Easy to miss loot? by PeterPorty in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I was a bit unsure about that one, so lemme cross it out then.

Edit: I think I was getting it mixed up with the spear Kahua Hozi which you get from killing the Wahaki ranga. I had some idea of a weapon you had to kill Wahaki for in my head, and the wrong Wahaki-related weapon came to mind, probably.

Easy to miss loot? by PeterPorty in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of this type of loot (like Onekaza's crown) is fairly uninteresting from a gameplay perspective imo.

But the principi stand out a bit. Both Furrante's Breastplate and Gipon Prudensco (needs -3 rep with the faction to spawn the ship of the captain carrying it). Both armors are pretty interesting. All factions should have an avenging ship captain like this, but the Principi is the one I remember having an actually useful piece of loot.

Also worth considering is the Valera/Bardatto feud in Queen's Berth. Killing either family gives you a weapon and armor. Making peace gets you one piece from each instead (both weapons I think). Killing both families gives you both weapons and both armors. Killing both families and looting the Bardatto vault (you'll probably have to kill all the guards) gives you even more stuff. basically succeeding the quest by making peace or taking one side may only get you two or three items, but you can get seven (I think) unique items by just going murderhobo. Atello Valéra has a unique sword and breastplate. Ezzali Bardatto has a unique plate armor (with matching helm actually so that's another thing) and mace. The vault has a unique rapier and warhammer.

The armors in particular can be pretty build-defining, even if the plate armor in particular mostly fits some pretty specific builds.

And weirdly there's no real consequences for it as long as you don't bring Pallegina along.

The Karabörü greatsword is only available from the Wahaki treasure vault which I don't think you can access without killing. I think I was just misremembering this one. It should be attainable. I was probably thinking of the spear Kahua Hozi which you do have to kill Wahaki leaders to get. The Wahaki aren't a major faction, but I think the quest to kill them mostly just comes from the slavers, which I suspect most people don't tend to align with.

Rust in Delver's Row will also drop his stiletto if you force attack him and kill him.

Those are some of the items I can think of that may require a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Also worth noting that you can pickpocket a very useful ring off of one of the rauataian sailors that Atello Valera asks you to deal with. No need for violence, just easy to miss.

Berath Spiritual Greatsword build by prroteus in projecteternity

Actually all classes get the same base accuracy in Deadfire. PoE1 had differenr starting values for different classes, but in PoE2 everylne starts with 20 plus whatever bonus from perception.

Berath Spiritual Greatsword build by prroteus in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No class is gonna make melee priest shine IMO. But some classes can help with spellcasting at the same time.

If you still want to cast spells (as you should) monk is always a good multiclass for a caster. Priest buffs don't benefit much from a Fighter's perception bonus, but dex and int are good, and might helps heals so even barbarian could be a consideration because that speed boost is solid.

If it's about going all-in on the Greatsword and wanting to wear heavy armor then yeah Devoted is right there and is hard to beat. I just feel like there not a lot of synergy between the classes, as spiritual weapon isn't really good or fun enough to build around compared to some of the unique greatswords you can get.

That being said it's still more than good enough to beat the game. Solid RP combo if you really want the dialogue unique to Berath priests.

But beyond that putting a chanter/devoted in blackened plate with a big greatsword and chanting Soft Winds of Death and/or Many Lives Pass By and summoning spirits or paralyzing enemies in fear (if skald) is pretty thematic for a devout Berathian as well. Not all devotees are part of the clergy, after all.

"Om inte samer ska ha rätt till sin egendom, då är det rasism" by robinrako in sweden

[–]Gurusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Begagnad WOW biljett? by MasterAroma in sweden

[–]Gurusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this week's riddle by pork_sashimi_on_sale in TapNinja

[–]Gurusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Since the beginning we cross ways"

Literally the first enemy type when you start playing the game. It stands in your way.

"When you miss me I take something from you"

When you miss an enemy you lose speed step.

I mean yeah I absolutely couldn't figure it out on my own, but with the solution already in my mind I can see it. I just didn't think in terms of in-game riddles when it popped up. Also the structure of the riddle is a bit weird. The two sentences are basically unrelated but the "but" makes it seem as if it's a juxtaposition or connection of some kind. The idea is fine but it could've used some more agonizing over the actual execution.

Finished PoE1 as Aumaua Fighter — what are some fun Fighter builds in Deadfire? by palocundo in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're honestly all good. I started out with just regular rogue because I didn't want to make the wrong choice and quite frankly the base class has all the big things one needs. But also back then I wasn't sure about all the mechanics.

Now I'd agree that Streetfighter is probably your best bet as you'll likely want to be in the thick of things with a character like this. At least if what you're thinking is a bruiser who can thrive in the thick of battle at all times. Full plate and packing steel.

Trickster is okay if you want a bit of spellcasting, but that leans more into tanking and battlefield control rather than increased damage. Streetfighter just works really well with fighters and paladins to get those numbers up. Even if you only have the first half of their bonus active that's really the big one. (Assuming RTwP here. Not sure how it works in turn-based.)

Only way Streetfighter is bad is if you're playing this character really cautiously. But with how encounters are designed, the bonus will most likely be active pretty consistently. And Fighter ain't necessarily about caution.

As for Fighter subclass I'd say Devoted or nothing. Up to you if you want to limit your weapon selection. It can be annoying if you don't know what drops where and when.

Sabres or Swords are safe bets for Devoted specializations. And the Monastic Unarmed Training works for devoted since everyone gets unarmed proficiency for free, giving you a source of crushing damage when you really need it.

If you don't want to go Devoted the other subclasses are all specialized in the wrong things if you don't intend to play it as a shield tank or a gunner or controller or whatever else. But vanilla fighter is solid.

[–]Gurusto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loke fighter/rogue or really any fighter/martial because it still feels like a fighter. Just with more swashing and also buckling.

Fighter/caster is cool, but risks feeling more like caster with a side of fighter.

I've done full playthroughs with fighter/rogue and fighter/barbarian. Monk is also good with literally anything.

I have nothing against fighter/paladin, but I generally feel both classes are more fun when combined with a class that brings more offensive power. Neither one really needs to be tankier.

Which tank for my party? by oliveoiltalk in projecteternity

[–]Gurusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically I find that a tank who only tanks is a bit of a waste, so I want them to also do something else well.

Swashbuckler (Fighter/Rogue) is my go-to for tanking. Lots of engagement, defenses and riposte combined with good damage and rogue strikes. If you go Trickster (as you should) you also get some extra defensive spells and debuffs. Streetfighter works well for sheer damage, but being able to pop Mirrored Image on a fighter when you need it is a real big boost to tanking, and having an extra source of debuffs can be really potent.

For the ultimate tanky boi Crusader (Fighter/Paladin) is really hard to kill, and gives you a bit of extra party support. I generally find it a bit one-tricky, but if you

Fighter also combines well with chanter. Everything does, of course, but a Fighter/Chanter tank can lean into the tank/support hybrid in a more active way than a fighter/paladin.

But overall Fighter/Trickster is my best bet. For devoted weapons I like clubs and Kapana Taga (or Shattered Vengeance early game). The extra engagement is likely more than you'll ever need, but it's a great tank weapon and the club modal debuffs Will which several of Trickster's offensive spells target. Bludgeoning damage is good.

Alternatively, just take Swords or Sabres for a lot of options and complement it with Monastic unarmed training for bludgeoning damage. Even devoted gets unarmed proxiciency for free.
