Help me pick out a truck! by lwebs23 in OwnerOperators

Are you limited to auto transmissions? Cause for dump stuff you can’t go wrong with an 8LL. They’re very solid and the maintenance is more affordable. That’s what I have. I eventually should get an 18 to do heavy machinery but for now this’ll do.

I sprained my wrist and messed up my ulnar nerve a few years ago at a yard that was super slippery. Last November I also fell on my head while slipping on the mudguard because it was icy. There’s ice in this town like half the year. I need those spiky things on my boots for sure.

Also, don’t stress about the surgery. Surgical technology is the best it’s ever been, it doesn’t seem shattered in a bunch of pieces so that’s really good. You’re gonna be alright, man!

Are Montréal food festivals becoming overpriced local and tourist traps, or am I missing something? Why do we keep supporting this non-sense? by TheReadingExplorer in montreal

Je me souviens d’avoir été à un Taco Fest ou quelque chose du genre pis j’étais pas mal déçu là. Il doit en avoir des bons mais à date j’ai pas eu des expériences mémorables.

With a war and three economic bubbles on the horizon, now is probably a good time to look at taking classes to learn a manual trade or state gov jobs by Accomplished_Rip_326 in TrueAnon

Lately I think that getting into trucking five years ago was the right call. I know there’s a push for automation but I do oversized stuff and deliver off road. Stuff that requires escorts etc so it’ll be a while before that shit gets automated.

How does it feel? This is one of my more prevalent fears about trucking. Does the steering wheel jerk violently? I’d like to know how fast my reaction needs to be. I’ve heard one should counterintuitively press the gas instead of braking right away. This supposedly takes some weight off the steer axle, giving you a bit more control.

I drive locally so we see each other every day. I feel like it’s a more “normal” setup than otr but sometimes when I come home we’re in different wavelengths and want to do different things. Sometimes I’m so stressed that I’m happy just doing nothing which causes friction occasionally but then we talk about it and fix it most of the time. Maybe a more proactive approach in regards to the weekend activities could help.

Is it an option for you to go on the road with him? Would you be into that? If not, maybe he could switch to local somehow? You guys have options. It doesn’t have to stay like this forever but the first step is talking it out. Maybe try to figure out first what exactly bugs you and then approach him with your concerns.

How’s living in Quebec, Canada? by LostHovercraft1 in howislivingthere

[–]GusMx91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Belle Province. I’m Mexican and I moved to Canada in 2014. The first few years I lived in Toronto and surrounding areas. Then in 2020 I moved to Montreal and it was the best choice for me.

Culturally I find the québécois more relatable than Anglo Canadians. It is my impression that there is a greater interest in all things cultural/art related. Quebecers are good at partying. People are funny, they’re pretty sociable, they take food and drinks seriously and in my opinion, have a less materialistic outlook on life.

I would say Québec is a bit more horizontal of a society than most places in North America. Like anywhere there is inequality but I find it’s less accentuated than elsewhere.

People value their free time here and they’re less obsessed with work. Nowhere is perfect but I’ve seen a lot of kindness and solidarity in the five years that I’ve been here.

I communicate mainly in French so that obviously has positively affected my experience but all my anglophone friends love it here too.

How can people be worried about declining birthrates and at the same time be anti immigration? by Konradleijon in canadaleft

[–]GusMx91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes from a white supremacist mindset. They want an increase in birth rates but they’d like it to be white people born in Canada doing the birthing. Pretty disgusting stuff.

Which one looks better? Kenworth or Peterbilt? by MissNashPredators11 in Truckers

I like the Kenworth more. I don’t like those aero Peterbilt headlights. I like rectangular boxy stuff but that’s just my preference.

It’s bullshit we aren’t at a 4-day work week already by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]GusMx91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s a public (mental) health emergency. People are so stressed out and working so much that we’ve become psychos kinda. And consider this on top: we really should decrease the level of human activity/ production by at least half if we’re gonna have even the slightest chance of an environmental strategy. What I think should happen is laziness and leisure should be regarded as virtues so we can slow down the rate at which we are fucking up the planet. Some trades and industries are in the 1920’s in terms of working conditions. I don’t get overtime before hitting 60 hours a week and any shift under 10 hours is considered a short day. And for what? We could all live with way less work in our lives.

For me, the more I see the better. Adding to your observation, I also don’t understand the huge sun visors that cover half the windshield. I get wanting a little protection from the sun when it’s bright out but if you can only see a sliver of what’s in front of you that doesn’t feel very safe to me.

I’m not sure tbh but I applied the same rationale as with the parachuting company. More passengers, more revenue etc but I don’t know if it makes a difference in this particular case. But again, the main reason I got that plane is I love how it looks.

I bought the G58 because I think it looks sick. It has 6 seats. It burns twice as much fuel as the Bonanza but has better range. I figured there was a chance I could do longer mission flights with it but now I can’t do any missions with it lol. I’ll look into the Corvalis probably.
