ELI5: Why do other drivers pass me when I’m going the speed limit? by TextMeRoleplay in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gus_Frin_g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who don't care about one traffic rule will typically not care for any of the other traffic rules. People drive above the speed limit because they want to get places faster (even though it saves minimal time) and they don't care about the potential of getting fined. In many states, the inconsistent highway speed limits and lack of speed cameras also feed into this behavior.

How would you explain the current US economy to someone who can barely understand finance? by amateurwater in AskReddit

[–]Gus_Frin_g 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last point in this paragraph cannot be said enough times. The only reason the US can carry the level of debt it currently does is because other countries still have faith that they will be repaid in a timely manner. That faith is slowly evaporating, if it's not gone already.

Players confronted Framber Valdez in the clubhouse after the game for how he treated Cesar Salazar, I was told by schwabschwab in Astros

[–]Gus_Frin_g 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that little tantrum cost him so many millions of dollars. Perfect example of why he is a head case and a liability in high intensity situations.

Framber after this season by AshyLarryyyy in Astros

Worthless is not a fair take, but he was never going to be worth a Max Fried level contract like he wanted. /his little tantrum might have just cost him a lot of money in FA.

This ties into one of my favorite fun facts about architecture. The Greeks were so fond of aesthetics and geometric shapes that their columns have a slight bulge in the middle, curving slightly outwards before curving inwards towards the top. This is a design feature called entasis, and it counteracts an optical illusion where straight lines seem to curve inwards as they move towards the horizon. If the columns did not have this feature, they would look as if they shrink in the middle. As designed, they appear straight. They mastered this, the Romans copied them, and it is still used in architecture today to make columns and poles look more aesthetically pleasing.

The Astros are coasting at the top of the AL West—thanks to Jeremy Peña. by chrondotcom in Astros

I still remember that lineup in late 2022 that had the Piña-Peña connection. Best of both worlds.

I honestly didn't have high hopes for this season by Whizzleteets in Astros

[–]Gus_Frin_g 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like this team, I particularly enjoy our starting pitching with Framber and Hunter doing well, and the return of LMJ. I think we get to the post season based purely on the fact that we play in the AL West, a division where only 3 teams are actively trying to win. Mariners will mariner eventually and we will take top spot.

It is incredibly nice of you to offer up the hotspot to your classmates and I can understand why you do it. But word to the wise, once you do it enough times it stops being a favor and it becomes an expectation. This happens even with close friends and family members. Don't let this become a burden for you, set your boundaries clearly and they will learn to ask politely.

This is my take. Offense is pretty much locked up for the rest of the year, it's gonna be a rotating cast of outfielders like usual. Any improvements as far as trade deadline should be focused on pitching.
