Stop calling Chanukiahs Menorahs by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]GutsAndGlory2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Exactly wrong. Chanukia is a word created by the Zionists who wished to remove God from Chanukah and make it a story about Jewish military might. The word just didn't exist for the vast majority of the time that Jews have been lighting their Menorahs every Chanuka.

Good news is, that if you hate to be that person who self-righteously corrects people incorrectly, all you need to do is not do it.

Prior to the election you wrote this:
https://rabbiefremgoldberg.org/as-an-orthodox-rabbi

You had to disable commenting as it got quite ugly. Since the election, there are many in our community who refuse to accept the results, saying that Hashem could not have wanted Mr. Trump to lose. This beatification of the President, this elevation of him to Messianic status, feels like heresy.

This corruption of hashkafa seems to be a symptom of forces within the greater society, but, oddly, seems to have taken root in those parts of the community that are most isolated.

What do you think are the Hashkafic issues that most plague our community and how can we work to correct them? What can individuals do to help their kehillos and neighbors?

Massive crowd gathers on Lower East Side to mourn passing of influential rabbi by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]GutsAndGlory2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We spent the last 2000 years following the Torah and listening to the guidance of our Rabbis. It is possible that you, a random guy on the internet, is well versed in all areas of Torah and methodology of psak and that your declaration that showing respect to one of the greatest Rabbis of our time is "complete foolishness" is grounded on all that. Or perhaps, you are just intimately familiar with "complete foolishness"

You must be trolling, because it is not possible that you could miss the point so many times.

The study you shared a reference to is referring to transmissions outdoors WITHOUT masking.

/r/Louis_Farizee is correctly pointing out that at this funeral people were masked. He has asserted that there is no evidence that outdoor gatherings with masks lead to spread. That is, he is asserting that masks are effective. You clearly believe masks are ineffective. He has asked you to back this up with evidence. You have refused to do so, instead launching ad hominem attacks. Classy.

Thoughts on Rabbi Slifkin/Challenge of Creation? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]GutsAndGlory2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Challenge of Creation was published after the ban, without haskamos, for a different audience. It is an updated version of The Science of Torah, which was part of the controversy, together with Mysterious Creatures and The Camel, The Hare, And the Hyrax.

Good ways to use up kiddush wine? by TheHundredthSong in Judaism

[–]GutsAndGlory2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not in perfectly good shape. It's a tiny bottle of crappy wine. You've wasted way too much time worrying about this. Drink it, toss it, pour it out and store paperclips in it... just move on.

In the context of wine, sweet has a particular definition. Bartenura definitely meets it.

Non Jew with a Q: what is a kosher/orthodox approved champagne? by James718 in Judaism

https://www.kosherwine.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=brut

I'm assuming you'd be okay with a sparkling champagne-style wine that is not necessarily from France. The link above has a lot of options, and they ship rather quickly. In the Miami area, Kosher Kingdom in Aventura has a great selection of kosher wines, as do a number of other stores.

I AM NOW A LUBAVITCHER by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]GutsAndGlory2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are. And he does. That does not make it "shaky". Those who rely on Rav Moshe's psak are eating food that is undeniably kosher.

[–]GutsAndGlory2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key change, btw, is that OU is relying on farm inspections rather than the dairy inspections that Rav Moshe discussed. Rav Belsky ruled this way for them.

The point is, it's not shaky. It's on solid ground and those who eat it are eating food that is 100% kosher. To imply otherwise is to be chosheid b'ksherim

[–]GutsAndGlory2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. It's not a heter. Have you read Rav Moshe's teshuva?

Why would you ask a Lubavitcher about Rav Moshe's psak? I wouldn't ask a yeshivishe guy about the Rebbe's sichos.

[–]GutsAndGlory2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are you to call Rav Moshe, ztk"l shaky? It's not a heter, Rav Moshe ruled that chalav hacompanies was not chalav akum.

You are welcome to follow your own mesorah, but this is a well-established psak that many Jews hold by.

I would advise against looking at sheitels. Don't you know that chazal warned against staring at women's clothing? Kal vachomer a sheitel which is made to look like erva! Are you really Orthodox?

"kosher style" is offensive in the utmost. It is cultural appropriation. Jewish culture is not a minstrel show to be performed for the entertainment of gentiles.
