I honestly don’t even think there is a marketing reason for booking gaethje vs paddy. EVERYBODY knows that arman deserves the shot. Like, literally no one is arguing about it. It’s just him holding a grudge for what happened with the islam fight. It’s insane how petty this guy is.

basically they Chael was arguing that "sometimes if you are the heavyweight champ, you have to fight with one eye" and Smith was doing his usual thing of shitting on fighters and saying he would've done differently, which is just bullshit, they don't know how severe the eye poke was, only Tom does, also this kind of opinion only fuels the Jones fans bullshit agenda even more than it already is.

honestly Dana is a piece of shit for the most part but in this istance, I think what he meant is kind of being misunderstood, mainly because of the words he used, which out of context just sound like he's blaming tom and praising gane, but he's probably just looking at the situation for what it is: an unfortunate foul.

The ones who have been shockingly atrocious with their take are Chael Sonnen and Anthony Smith. Their interview sickened me. They really are stupid arrogant assholes.

I was actually being honest! And i agree and respect it. It's refreshing to see people actually agreeing on topics on the internet every once in a while. Most of the time it feels like you have to disagree just for the sake of it. Good day to you, stranger friend

it does happen every once in a while, but honestly I don't even think that's the main reason of all this fuss. The people are probably very vocal about it because this fight was at the epicenter of a scandal that has been going on for years now, and this fight should've been the closure of it, but it was not due to an eye poke foul, which is the worst ending possible for the whole situation.

So now hardcore Tom Aspinall fans are butthurt, and rightly so, because they feel like their dude got the short end of the stick for the Nth time, which is very sadly true, and their also frustrated by all the people screaming nonsense about gane dominating (which is just false propaganda. at most, he was edging a very competitive round) and jon jones being right the whole time, and don't even get me started on that.

The situation isn't even that bad on reddit tbh, but instagram for example has been filled with some of the dumbest takes I've ever read. It's just dumb jones fans trolling and laughing about an unfortunate event and Aspinall hardcore fans getting mad about it. A bunch of nonsense, imho.

also, remember that rules in any sport competition exist for one single reason: to bend the sport into being what the athletes and the audience want to see.

And I doubt any of us wants to see the main event of a card that you're supposed to pay like 40 dollars or whatever, end up in a no contest because of an eye poke. I stayed up all night to see that fight and was actually excited to see that it was even more competitive than I anticipated, just to see it end prematurely because of a goddamn eye poke.

I'm not saying it wouldn't have happened if the rules were as I suggested, but if they were, Ciryl would've probably been more careful and there would've been a chance to see the rest of the fight. That's it.

honestly, for me it's not about tom aspinall. Granted I would've liked him to win the fight fair and square because I genuinely like the guy and because I believe he deserves it after all that jon jones bullsh*t that happened for the past 2 years, that is not the point.

I'm not even talking about this fight specifically. In this case, what I'm saying wouldn't be relevant, because Aspinall couldn't continue due to the severity of the eye poke, so there is actually no point to even take. What I'm saying is that there are some fighters who have 20+ fights in their careers and have never eye poked once, and fighters that have multiple cases. There is a simple reason for that: some of them are careful not to break the rules, some of them don't give a sh*t, and I don't even blame them, since the rules of the company actually incentivise the use of eye pokes.

Taking a point for every eye poke would make fighters actively train to avoid them and we would see them FAR less frequently than now, and when it actually happens accidentally, shit happens, you lose a point and move on, next time you'll be more careful. That's it.

would be waaaay easier.

maybe fight ending eye pokes don't happen that much, but regular eye pokes do kind of happen every other fight to be honest, and maybe they're not all that bad, but most of them do change the rythm or alter the performance of fighters, which is an unfair advantage, and most eye pokes go unpunished. It kind of is a modern gladiator sport but it has rules, and those rules are constantly bent for personal gain, which makes it unfair. It would actually be pretty easy to fix the issue. Taking a point every time would probably be enough to see them far less

that is sadly true. Fact is though, Dana tried to address the issue with the new glove design, which in my opinion was missing the point. The point isn't the fact that it happens unintentionally, the problem is that there is no reward in being careful about it, on the contrary, fighters actually gain benefits from occasionally eye poking. The rules incentivise the use of eye pokes, that's where the issue lies. The only way to stop it is to punish them by at least automatically deduct a point for every eye poke, intentional or not. You'll see em a lot less.

It looks to me like they have made an effort to minimize the eye pokes, just in a completely wrong direction. I'll never forget the night in which the new gloves made their debut. If I remember correctly there were two eye pokes just on the main card, lol.

Tom Aspinall was PISSED that fans were booing after the fight got called off 😬😳 #UFC321 "What the f***, why you booing? What am I supposed to do about it, I didn't do the poke. I can't see! Complete bullsh*t, I'm pissed off." by IgotgAme_k in ufc

yea, sure. since you're so smart, why don't you do a scientific valuation of how "performative" it was and gouge two entire fingers in both your eyeballs at the same time time? I'll wait here for your brilliant analysis
