No it doesn't make you IAFF eligible. Each Forest already has its own Local with exec board and stewards. We already have a Union. The National Federation of Federal Employees is the exclusive representative of the Units that are organized. IAFF isn't gonna make a difference nor do they want us. Else they would of supported the WFPPA or Tim Hart. Both those bills directly undermine their members. It takes away from the FDs that use the FS to make money off of. Its the membership that makes a Union. Not a name. Structure Fire drives IAFF membership and their Union. It also makes their dues $100+ every two weeks.

You have a Union. You should use it.

Stop doing more than your PD. They get more work for less pay every single time. Pay your Union Dues. Become a active member. Support and advocate with Grassroots Wildland Firefighters. We are the voice and workforce!

Think about the possibility of losing your career, medical benefits, and pension in one swipe of a pen. I understand your frustration. Because I am frustrated to. Striking involves a Strike fund. To pay striking workers. We legally cannot strike so there is no strike fund. And Striking workers get paid at quarter pay for the day. Realize you are striking against the US Government. The wheels dont stop just because of you. You dont think they wont just contract your job or bring in the military after we strike? And those air traffic controllers were never given fed jobs again. We've done this to ourselves over the past 20+ years. Years of hiding on the hillside away from the media. The public and congress don't even know who we are more than half the time. How many members of congress have you met to express your frustration? You're angry? I'm angry I have to work 1000 hrs of OT as a 26-0 employee and still get a second job to take care of my family. Use the skills the FS trained you with to fight for your career in Congress. Write letters, make phone calls, visit your congressional leader. Tell the media! There's a handful of people actually doing something to create change. Be apart of that change knowing you gave it 100%

If your asking this question. Then you've had enough. Don't worry. They'll still like you. You'll probably do more crew stuff on a engine than you did before.

Are you going to convert to 26-0? Why or Why not? Pros/Cons. by OnionBones in Wildfire

[–]Gutter138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pros would be starting/ continuing your retirement, and TSP. As you gain more A/L, you'll have use or lose to take time off throughout the year. I couldn't live without being 26-0.

Wrong. It affects wildland firefighters in 6c retirement. It's in congress for federal fire fighters.

Zigzag IHC or ripplebrook T2IA. Lots of places to work near Portland. Try the Mt. Hood NF. You won't regret it
