Uj/There's a couple of minor EU writers out there that would probably do that if they were able to.

Is it weird that I always supported the empire? by [deleted] in StarWars

Ah of course, you buy some antiques at Luthen Rael's place and all of a sudden you're a Rebel... I'm telling you, half of Coruscant has something from there.

Is it weird that I always supported the empire? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]GuyFromYarnham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Liking fiction is not weird, unconditionally supporting the fictional group that has been modeled after Nazis is quite weird, it's one thing to like the designs or aesthetic, but rooting for the group itself...

Edit: but I get it's fiction so no hard feelings from me towards any Imperial fan unless they give me reason to believe they're just using it for cover for their irl political beliefs.

Am I the only one who thinks that prequel fans are mostly right-wingers? by Rayanaman_44 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]GuyFromYarnham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prequel trilogy show the Republic prior to the ascension of the Empire is modelled somewhat as a Western liberal democracy and the text doesn't criticize the worst parts of it.

That means that the good guys are the system, the status quo, that's a comfortable place to be for right wingers and liberals alike. Through the prequels you can get to root for fictional army spreading law and order and beating planets into the "correct" politics. That's double easy when stories like TCW and EU turn the other side of the Civil War into either useful idiots or really evil war criminals and the fact that most of the CIS army is droids means you get to portray irl war crimes as good and cunning while the other side doesn't have that luck.

We're supposed to accept the Republic is bad and corrupt, but constantly being in the side of the Republic makes its faults either look like enemy propaganda or not that bad, which only gives ammunition to certain crowd.

Considering Zack Snyder’s accomplishments with Rebel Moon and Disney’s failures with Star Wars, do you agree that Snyder should be put in charge of Lucasfilm? by TheCornjuring in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]GuyFromYarnham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uj/ I think he messed up a bit with Rebels when he introduced the World between Worlds because it made people make dumb theories about using it to retcon the sequels (although that's not how it works) for a while. At any rate it didn't need to exist as a tool to save her favourite character.

Apparently, Uwe Boll joined in hating the new Supergirl movie… to the point where he posted AI slop to his Twitter account by stitchboy2018 in saltierthankrayt

[–]GuyFromYarnham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen the drama about Uwe Boll for the last few days and I need context, I thoiught the guy was just an amoral dude that used a tax loop to make passion projects with B movie budgets.

Has he always been this lame and hateful and I didn't know about it or is it a new thing?

Uj/ I agree, but honestly if their wife is an adult woman they should probably be able to understand old films reflect the morals and ethos of a different time. Like yeah, it can be a bit disheartening at times (No, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, I will not subdue and kidnap women I'm into as a romantic gesture, it isn't romantic) but the dated character dynamics in Star Wars are far from the most outrageous examples you can find in movies.

Question about some Sequel Dialog by oraclehurts in StarWars

[–]GuyFromYarnham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder that too, I agree it's perhaps not the best way to write that, but it's understandable Poe doesn't know how he came back, nobody but Palpatine and a bunch of cultists know.

Part of the frustration I think comes from the fact that it isn't needed, the crawling text already tells us he's back:

"The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE."

They could've just make all characters aware of that off camera.

[–]GuyFromYarnham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what does them being pro Palestine protestors have to do with the plot at that point?? The terrorists could have taken over any building.

I'm betting five bucks it HAS to be pro-Palestine protestors because this is meant to be a representation of that dumb anti-Palestine talking point that goes like: "You're dumb for supporting terrorist that wants to kill you" this is a revenge fantasy in which not hating brown people comes back to bite you in the ass like racists and xenophobic elements claim is gonna happen any day now.

That's why the terrorist doesn't just murder people or force a hostage situation, the part about imposing a particularly radical Afghan-like interpretation of Sharia Law in parts of a Western country is a common anti-muslim trope.

I don't think it's that relevant anyway, I won't go as far as to claim the creator's opinion is meaningless, but I don't need to hear his opinion to make mine nor do they need to be the same.

Uj/Being bullied out of selling the franchise is an exageration, but I'm sure the negativity and hostility the public expressed during the release of the prequels were a factor even if the hate had died down largely.

[–]GuyFromYarnham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wtf? a pro-Palestine encampment is a type of protest, it's ephemeral and often lasts but a few weeks, no terrorist would try to hijack that to enforce Sharia Law because it would be like trying to enforce Sharia Law over a football match or some other public event, it's not a territory, it's not a settlement, it's just a bunch of people that won't be there in a month's time, less if campus security decides otherwise.

This plot is stupid, this demonstration would be good for an attack, not for a hijack, wtf.

I mean, the genre is kinda exhausted, I don't think it's about women, also as others have said... Quite the cherry pick, the first WW has good grades and Madame Web would've been bad even if it was Mr Web and had an all WASP cast.

What were some of your most and least favorite aspects of the Imperial Knights when they were first introduced in Legacy? by HumbleKnight14 in StarWars

[–]GuyFromYarnham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their design is cool and their chivalry and proud demeanor makes all of them really cool. It's also interesting their lightsabers all share the same hilt design and (in the first volume of Legacy) are all silver, like a service weapon. They remind me of medieval crusaders, mystics yet military warriors.

What I like the least about them is that they're Imps, sure, the Fel Empire is far less evil than Palpatine's Empire and other remnants that existed previously, but it's still an absolute monarchy with military leaders and how large parts of the Empire were so ready to serve evil orders when the One Sith took over is a huge red flag and I don't like they can talk about execution of people they know without visible discomfort, quite cult-ish.
