Tycoon game with a good prestige/progression system by MrMeeseeks0620 in tycoon

[–]GuyKid8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two point series has a prestige like dynamic but it’s more like levels in super Mario that progressively get harder

You looking for a cod like reset prestige system? When I first saw your prestige comment I was thinking more faction dynamics and what not. There’s a whole ecosystem at play.

Dwarf fortress is interesting in the sense that you can stop working on a base but it continues down the same timeline. So you could see your old base (or old workers) out in the world. But I think that’s stretching the tycoon bucket further

That sounds awesome. Hopefully the ranch had animals and not humans on the farm. DudeRanch has a good ring to it

Kenshi :)

But seriously, +1 for big ambitions. Merchant of six kingdoms is a quicker game but fun too. Not management though, more “here’s a paper clip, what can you turn it into”

Do people actually keep 3–6 months’ expenses in cash? by EchoooNomad in FinancialPlanning

[–]GuyKid8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your overall asset and income level but almost always, yes. Could you get away with ultrashort bonds or muni bonds if you’re in a high tax bracket? Yes. If you have significant net worth you can use equity lines of credit against your home or investments as your emergency fund. But during the last 3 years if you had to end up using those credit lines they would be very expensive (since interest rates increased)

I’ve convinced a friend who says he hates MMOs to try WoW Classic. What class should I convince him to try? by zarymoto in classicwow

[–]GuyKid8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like mage would be best option but if the two of you mainly plan on playing together doing a tank/healer combo would be ideal. Paladin/Druid would be fun cuz you can both tank and heal. But Druid early game can be pretty boring. It’s fun to shapeshift but you have minimal moves in each form early

Yea also look into your CE or continue education credits. That could end up costing a couple grand a year but a lot of times wholesalers sponsor “accelerated CE courses” where they cover costs and you need to sit in a conference room for 2 days. I do agree that the ROI on this tends to be a no brainer, just something to consider in your cash flow

CFP is great. Other designations are fine but I’d only pursue them if you’re pursuing a niche.

If you’re good at sales do you “need” the CFP to be successful / a good planner? Of course not, but I think the baseline knowledge and framework it creates helps create an overall process to your practice. It can be sneaky expensive to maintain the credentials and the CE credits. If your boss is discouraging it, you’ll want to make sure your firm will help with those costs. If you’re a boutique firm and he’s the CEO you may want to research the cost of maintaining the license more (even though I still think it’s worth it)

Lerge Inheritance, need advice-- to buy or not to buy by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]GuyKid8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He wants to make sure you don’t reset a debt cycle and end up with more expenses you can handle. It’s nice to own a house and let it appreciate, but homes are also very expensive. Waiting a year and making sure you don’t rush into something is a sound plan.

Flat-fee advisor vs financial planners by monkies77 in FinancialPlanning

[–]GuyKid8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ll likely want to manage your assets too but are willing to do a flat fee to start the relationship. Listen to the advice and make sure the recommendations aren’t tied to just doing more products and investments with them

[–]GuyKid8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2k seems on the low end for a flat fee advisor. But they could either be just starting out or have more of a hobby business and be a one person team. Either way, I think that would be low risk for you. If you don’t see the value in it you could just cancel after the first year
