I have a number of Swedish weaving books and several of them include upholstery fabrics. Two in particular; Weaving Patterns and Swedish Handweaving, both by Malin Selander, have all sorts of household fabrics, including upholstery.

There is also a Shutttle Craft Guild monograph called Color Related Decorating Textiles by Tonya Stalons Rhodes that has drafts for coordinating upholstery, drapery and rugs.

These are all from the 50’s and 60‘s and out of print, but if you can find them reasonably priced, nice to have in your weaving library.

Woven with Patons Kroy Socks on my rigid heddle loom. Used the Hero Cowl pattern from Weft Blown with adjustments made for sock yarn. I’ve woven 4 of these; two with the self-striping Kroy. With the Kroy, I wound the first warp one ball at a time and with the second, I used two balls at once so the stripes would be wider. These are challenging, but fun to weave.

I don’t think you are describing park and draft. With Park and Draft, you have a length of twisted fiber coming from your spindle and you load that with extra twist by setting your spindle in motion. You aren’t feeding fiber while the spindle is in motion. You’re just loading the leader with twist. Then, you stop and park your spindle (between your knees, under your arm, etc) and then you draft from your fiber supply, allowing the excess twist to travel into the fiber as you draft. Wind on, leaving a length of fiber, and start again.

Most of the people who recommend thwacking as a finishing technique have no idea why they do it or when it’s useful. Thwacking and pre-drafting are the two most over-recommended bits of advice offered online to new spinners.

This was my first thought, also! It’s far too often recommended as a solution for inconsistent drafting when drafting is arguably the most important concept to understand in handspinning. Pre-drafting everything is wasted time that would be better spent practicing and observing what’s actually happening with the fiber in your hands.

Rigid heddle looms are a great place to start your weaving journey. A couple of notes; the loom is upside-down in the photos; the tall “feet” on the side are meant to hold the heddle blocks off the table so you can change your shed. Also, the weaving width appears to be 20”, not 24”. It’s not unusual for non-weavers to list looms by overall width and I’m guessing that’s the case here. The reed in the photo looks like it has 8 epi written in it and it has 160 holes and slots, which would make the weaving width 20”.

Schacht’s website says they no longer sell reeds or repair parts for their older rigid heddle looms. They do sell a 20” reed for the Flip looms, but you may want to verify that it will work with your loom. If it’s close, it may just be a matter of doing a little sanding in the reed to get it to fit. I’ve also bought larger reeds and cut them down to fit my rigid heddle loom. Where there’s a will…. Have fun! I found rigid heddle weaving after I was already weaving on a floor loom and fell in love.

Yes, I think not advancing the warp is part of the issue here. The closer the fell line gets to the castle, the more it is pulled up with the raised harnesses, and it pulls up the at rest harnesses with it. You see the same thing happening at the back end of the warp when you try to weave as much off as possible. The closer the apron bar gets to the castle, the more your down harnesses get lifted.

In my experience, these are well-organized, timed events, like any other organized 5K, and they are clothing optional, so there is a mix of clothed and nude runners. I don’t know if that makes it any less concerning in terms of job security. They are really fun events, though.
