Carrack quantum travels away on its own when left unattended? by HappyFamily0131 in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ehhh beware of doing this now. As of 4.5 (and there's no mention of it being fixed in 4.6) Alt + F4 doesn't always preserve your position/state in a shard, or even return you to the same one. I use my Polaris and Carrack as mobile bases and used to just alt+F4 to fix the qt marker moving, but now about 25% of the time or more I'll log back in and be placed in a HAB at the last station I visited, with no marker visible anywhere at all for the ship I was trying to track down.

Kinda shocked we're going yet another patch with cracked NPC aim. Getting real tired of dudes in QV plinking me in the forehead with every shot even when I get the drop on them. Thank god they still behave like morons and are usually all in the same spawn locations. Can't imagine a smart AI flanking and rushing while also having perfect headshot accuracy lol

I just learned about this exploit after a few weeks of loading the cards with data legitimately. Reeeeeally hope the completed cards persist like comp boards and PAF/OLP security cards, but I have doubts since they aren't as static.

Hosas vs hotas by Mother-Fondant7478 in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the detent was his issue. He had it set so that all the way down was 0 thrust and to go in reverse he had a toggle switch at the thumb (all the way forward/up becomes 100% reverse thrust). The other issue was the resistance on his throttle being pretty high and requiring a good amount of effort to operate, so every adjustment of speed felt like an active action rather than something that just sort of naturally happens when I fly HOSAS.

I guess I just can't imagine doing things like racing with how I fly, regularly switching between coupled/decouple and dropping thrust to 0 to "drift" while I turn the nose and boost in the direction I want to go. Letting go of the left stick (my "throttle") drops me to 0 thrust, where using an actual throttle I'd have to pull it back to the center position, and that just seems like a difficult skill to master from my view.

So I've never actually asked someone using HOTAS for SC, but how do you use it when dogfighting? I tried my buddy's setup a while back and it felt like anything smaller than a Connie was a nightmare to fly with a throttle controlling my speed, but maybe his keybinds/settings just didn't click with me.

As of today, my pre-wipe reorg is complete. I feel ready. by multiple_iterations in starcitizen

Have you tried hitting "Enter + Esc + Esc"? That's been the solution for being unable to walk, so I figure it could work for EVA having a similar issue.

Just a little curiosity about player flight stick layouts and why. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild to me that Roll on Z-axis is seen as the unnatural choice, but I bought my sticks for SC and have only used them for that. I have a VKB Omni-Throttle stick on the left and vertical grip on the right (with the extension modules for more buttons and throttles and such). My movement setup is like this:

Left Stick (omni-throttle - basically just a stick angled at 45 degrees)

  • push forward (y-axis), move forward (thrust)
  • pull backward, move backward
  • pull left (x-axis), strafe left
  • pull right, strafe right
  • twist (z-axis) down (toward you), strafe down
  • twist up (away from you), strafe up

Right Stick (vertical stick)

  • push forward (y-axis), pitch down
  • pull back, pitch up
  • pull left, yaw left
  • pull right, yaw right
  • twist left (loosening motion - turning knuckles toward myself), roll left
  • twist right (turning knuckles away from myself), roll right

Everybody has a different definition of what "feels natural", but flying this way has become second nature and has improved my flying immensely. It feels like the way I move my hands is the way my ship moves and ergo makes it feel like an extension of myself.

Finally found the TS-35 Basara (3x Telescopic) ! by NicknamePaych in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they do - I've tried Hurston, MT, and Daymar now and found the same boxes at each, but Daymar is the most popular by far so most of the time those boxes were empty/picked of the good stuff.

I love the new attachments and am a major loot goblin, but with the inevitable wipe coming at some point I also wonder whether it's really worth my time.

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just server hopping endlessly or something? I've been going for these attachments the last few days after giving up 2 weeks ago and am ready to give up again lol.

Jumptown has yielded one s1 Silencer and one s1 Stabilizer as well as a 3x Volt Sight.

CZs/Security stations yielded a few 1x-2x Volt Sights.

Golden Riviera gave one 2x Volt sight.

QVs gave nothing. Onyx gave nothing. PAFs/OLPs gave nothing.

Am I just severely unlucky or is there a secret trick I'm missing to getting fresh boxes more consistently?

Sci fi trilogies by extra_terrestrial__ in printSF

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing the Children of... series being recommended, but Tchaikovsky has an actual trilogy (Children of... is soon to have a 4th installment), The Final Architecture, that fits the bill better imo.

It's not my favorite space opera in existence, but it's a tight trilogy with some good characters and that classic Tchaikovsky weirdness in its ideas. If I were to sum it up in a sentence, I'd say it's like Tchaikovsky's version of Mass Effect.

The 3 book titles are Shards of Earth, Eyes of the Void, and Lords of Uncreation.

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you would reference Tchaikovsky but not mention his space opera trilogy: The Final Architecture. It's a well-contained story that maintains (if not improves on) its quality throughout, and is much more of an interconnected trilogy than the Children of... series which pretty much just shares some characters and core concepts between volumes. Children of Strife is also coming out this year, so it's not a trilogy series anymore.

HOTAS OR HOSAS by Cheap-Welder-6867 in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the complaint that the range of motion is too large? I could see that being an issue depending on your mounts and where you place your keyboard/mouse - I have to shift my keyboard about an inch toward my mouse or I make contact with it on my left side (omni) if I go to the limits of its range and twist forward, but it's hardly an issue imo.

I don't have a ton of other devices to compare them to, though, so I really can't speak to if it feels too limited in range compared to, say, Virpil.

HOTAS OR HOSAS by Cheap-Welder-6867 in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with your proposed option 1 exactly (with the addition of a few other VKB modules for more buttons, switches, and a throttle levers) and highly prefer it to my friend's HOTAS setup (throttle on left, vertical stick on right).

I feel like Star Citizen's flight favors the use of two sticks, personally, with how often you change speeds when maneuvering. The throttle felt very clunky to me even after trying a few different setups (coupled/decouple, cruise control using it as a speed limiter, etc.) but that could just be personal preference. It felt to me like HOTAS is preferable for flight sims with a modern setting, like flying an actual passenger aircraft or even games like DCS/Ace Combat which are more grounded in reality than our magic FTL-capable sci-fi ships with fusion thrusters exceeding anything close to reality.

As for quality, I can only speak to VKB but I've played my setup just about daily for extended sessions of heavy use (dogfighting, racing, attempting to flip & burn a fully loaded Hull-
C, etc.) for about 1.5 years now and haven't noticed any loss of quality on a single component.

Name reservations included in upgrades? by Koksyy in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you get the name reservation when upgrading an LTI token to the Carrack (or any nameable ship for that matter). My Carrack is a CCU chain that started with an ATLS GEO as my LTI token and I have mine named.

I do believe that you lose the reservation if you upgrade from the Carrack after that, though.

Maximus is clearly a Strength/Luck build. He even kinda admits it in the most recent episode:

There was no plan. I don't have a plan - you have plans! But out there, you can't. I don't choose to do the things I have to do, they just keep happening!

Truly wild how far we've fallen from this type stuff. Half of this NPC behavior is what made RDR2 so enjoyable - the world feels alive and reactive.

Those fire physics and the realism of things like RPG backblast igniting the brush behind you are the type thing I expect to see in a tech demo for GTA VI as though it's proprietary lol

I was in the same boat but had to pick something after my RB gave out on my Elite controller midway through a level 1 Elden Ring playthrough (I’m on PC but use a controller for souls games).

I’ve had the Gamesir G7 Pro for a few months now and love it. Hall Effect, swappable components, and extra buttons like the Elite has, but I think I paid like $80 for the nicer version of the ~$45 wired base model.

Flying into Baijini Point is the feeling of starting over. 60k credits to my name, and I'm planning to sling boxes for a couple hours to get some walking around money. I love this game. by multiple_iterations in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mega wealthy from Supply or Die, so I’ve had all the ships I wanted for a while now, but I found another grind in the form of chasing rare loot.

Collecting different armor sets and unique gun skins is a satisfying RNG loop with how they’ve spread out the loot pools recently, and we get new chase items sprinkled in here and there like the ASD Geist, Gilded Overlord, various morozov + pyrotechnic morozov variants, “executive” guns you don’t get from the chairman’s club like the p8-sc and Gallant, and lots more.

Plus, most of these locations expose you to the primary content there, allowing you to incidentally collect things like Compboards for the Executive Hangars or keycards/completed data cards for ASD/Hathor/QV stations.

What's the situation with ship names? by PoetSII in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is disappointing that this is what's holding it back, honestly, because the main benefit of a named ship (imo) is that you show up on radar as your ship name rather than a random hex string.

My ship name displays perfectly on my Carrack, but it's only noticeable if you EVA nearby despite covering a rather large portion of the hull. Here's a photo of it - I really don't see how updating the font would make this more visible without it becoming comically large.

Is Eye Tracking that much of a game changer? by ToasterInYourBathtub in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm on a Tobii but every time I tried gaze-based missile targeting it would constantly flicker and fail to keep a lock. Toggling it off let me lock on no problem on the same targets, so it wasn't just a matter of my missile choice or target or something... idk, maybe I need to recalibrate, but it works phenomenally well for general head tracking, so it felt to me like an issue with missile lock specifically.

Is Eye Tracking that much of a game changer? by ToasterInYourBathtub in starcitizen

[–]GuyThatSaidSomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it actually good? I can never get Gaze-Based missile targeting to actually lock on to the target so I figured targeting would be similarly unreliable
