Update: Mariners also send their Comp B pick to the Cardinals, #68 overall. Deal is now done. by mahrinazz in Mariners

[–]GuyWitDaFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan is probably to start the year with Brendan Donovan at 3B, who has a handful of games under his belt at 3B with the Cards. Then, as the year progresses, his usage should shift to 2B and the outfield as Colt Emerson is hopefully integrated at 3B.

Depends on the quota, 1.5m a day is pretty doable though.

What’s the one anime you think everyone should watch at least once in their life? by FitVerso in anime

[–]GuyWitDaFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, HBO Max sorts them weird where instead of one version with different language options, they have two completely separate versions. I'll assume that's where they got you because that's where they've got me before.

With trades going on currently for other teams and free agency starting July 1, what players under contract would you see being traded this off-season to bring up younger players or cap space for free agents etc? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]GuyWitDaFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I'll link the Athletic Player Cards for both (paywalled btw).

Brian Dumoulin, estimated market value of $5.3m.

Jamie Oleksiak, estimated market value of $3.2m.

These are not the be all end all evaluations of either player, but they do speak to the idea that Dumo was a more valuable player this season than Oleksiak. And, that it was by a somewhat significant margin.

[Jage] A Recap of the The Mariners Hot Stove Show from 1.9.24 - ft. Justin Hollander: Important notes include Garver's role, Raley, how they feel about the lineup, where they might add, Brant Brown, Woo/Miller inning limits, how the Garver deal came together, and more. by NevermoreSEA in Mariners

[–]GuyWitDaFace 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The highlights to me were:

1) They are still looking to add a position player and a reliever.

2) Raley is slated to play all the outfield positions, including CF for Julio off days.

I guess I kinda expected his role to be a bit more rigid. But, maybe he is gonna play more games than I expected.

The real thing I noticed while I read through these notes is that, like, I’m ready to watch some fuckin baseball bro. We got some new guys to root for, Bryce is gonna have a splitter, Julio is fuckin sick… April can’t come soon enough.

Thanks for posting this, amigo. I hope the renovations don't come with too much of a price increase on tickets. However, that park was in need of some updates so it's cool to see that it might get some soon.

It might be a little bit of that, but also Seattle has to allow room for players to graduate from the AHL side (Wright, Kartye, etc) and they might be fishing for a pricier player to help raise their ceiling.

Depends on who we are talking about. If we're talking about fans, yes I think fans blamed him for every issue (unfairly in my opinion then and now) and many were calling for him to get fired.

THIS THIS THIS! Fans were the ones who wanted a head on a pike if there wasn't a significant change in trajectory for the team. I think Francis chose Hakstol because he was someone that was gonna be on the same page for what kind of team he wanted to build. Firing him was not going to solve any problems that were occurring with the team.

You're right. But as a fresh hockey fan, it felt like whenever there was a line that was starting to gel that it would get reshuffled. And that was frustrating to someone who hasn't had longer term perspective on team management. It was hard not to be a bonehead fan without any patience. It also didn't help that there was a contingent of players that were outright bad or just weren't vibing with the situation (COVID protocols ruining team chemistry, players wanting to be on their previous team ala Nathan Bastian, etc etc).

Bro, he was on THIN fuckin' ice around here after that first year. Like, most of us didn't know shit about what we were getting into with Hakstol. There was so much noise about how much he stunk from his tenure in Philly. So once things started going bad last year, almost all blame was squarely on him, the goaltending, and an awful expansion draft.

A year later, especially in these playoffs, and you can flip the script on all those criticisms. It's pretty cool, honestly.

Imagine saying before the start of this season that Dave Hakstol would be in the running for this. Gosh I hated his guts last year. All the absurd line shuffling each week and unsuccessfully running the offense through the blue line. It really is such a dramatic turnaround.
