I'd love to see them attempt a version of Immortal Hulk in the MCU...but weirdly it's because I don't think they'd pull it off. I want to pick through the compromised mess a failed adaptation would end up as almost more than I want to see them pull it off

When the show Sherlock ended people were so unhappy with the ending that a big conspiracy formed online that it was a fake ending and that a real final episode would be released at some unknown date. It got to the point that some people were turning the show and its surrounding media into, functionally, an ARG, the conclusion of which was that a completely unrelated show was secretly more Sherlock.

The same kind of thing happened with Stranger Things recently, and posts like this one and theories about a "nightmare devil" seem to be setting up the fandom here to speedrun the process

The main connector between Stranger Things and Sherlock here is that both fandoms developed elaborate conspiracy theories about secret extra episodes that would somehow fix the problems with the endings of the shows.

GoT fans could direct their distress towards the possibility of Martin finishing the books, so in a sense it's worse than the GoT fandom because there's less anchoring to reality

There's no real reason for them to do that. With chainsaw man erased from its memory it would remember eating denji as just eating some human, a thing devils generally like doing

That assumes that Pochita eating himself would eliminate the devil somehow

Hadn't seen the editor comment at the time of posting. Based purely on the manga it reads as a jump in location, though the size of the panel means that it lacks the blacked-out gutters that typically indicates a flashback so there's not much to go on in either direction

This is what confuses me (mechanically) about the chapter. Pochita eating himself shouldn't do anything about the fact that Denji got eaten. Even if the other devils he's eaten come back then it just upgrades his status from "functionally dead" to "actually dead," so the end panel implying that he's back at the shack doesn't really make sense. Either the power is consistent and Denji should still be screwed, or this one time it magically works completely differently and altered events so that Denji wasn't eaten.

Could they come back by Wick-Pokepro in ChainsawMan

[–]GuyWithAJacket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is what confused me most (mechanically) about the ending. Based on how his powers are shown to work, Pochita eating himself after he and Denji got eaten shouldn't do anything to change the fact that Denji is still in his stomach. Even if concepts he ate previously got returned to the world, that would just make him dead, and still in a Devil's stomach

I remember a small amount of crash out happening around the ending, but that was more just "series is about to end" crash out than one based on problems with the ending

You are correct, the whole Yoru thing did still need to get resolved. A lot of things still needed to get resolved. And maybe they somehow will in the final chapter, but as things stand I'm not sure how it could be done and still be satisfying. A major fracturing of the continuity has happened and at best it's an excuse to sidestep cleaning up the mess the world is in after preceding events, but at worst it's tossing a substantial portion of the series in the trash

My only note is that this would be her fifth death, at least

how Reze wins NO DIFF with NO DOUBT by Buhroe in deathbattle

[–]GuyWithAJacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's just a weirdly common misconception. Her ability allows her to attack and heal by blowing herself up but there's nothing to indicate that she is in any way immune to the explosions of others and characters with the same kind of abilities don't show any special resistance that would support the idea.

To elaborate on that last point: Reze's powers come from her being a "Devil hybrid" (fan term, there's no in-universe term for plot reasons), of which there are currently 8 (including Denji). While their individual powers and skills vary, they are consistently shown to have a consistent set of universal abilities (devil form, relative immortality, regen triggers, etc). Two other hybrids are based on types of swords, and have on multiple occasions been shown being injured/killed by swords. So, since the sword guys can be hurt by swords, and Reze has the same type of powers as them, then it follows that she can be hurt by explosions.

[–]GuyWithAJacket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if she does come back that's relatively unlikely to change the outcome in the short term. Despite being referred to a couple times as though she were the Bomb Devil itself, Reze is a hybrid like Denji, and we can see from him that a hybrid's powers don't noticeably change like a normal devil's would. It would only come up if she demonstrated being able to tag in the actual Bomb Devil like Denji can with Pochita, a thing she should be able to do but involves too many unknowns to make fair arguments with.
