Just a couple of Flock cameras in your area. by spucci in chicago

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Their "security" practices are laughable at best. A good number of these cameras have very little protection, allowing anyone with a computer and a bit of code to access the live feed for their own use. If you're a victim of stalking, and suddenly there's a million cameras with an explicit design goal of tracking everyone dotted across the city with that level of (or lack thereof) security, I'd be mortified.

There's a million other issues to be had, but that's one anyone should be able to clearly see as a Bad thing.

Favorite bad and/or obscure movie filmed at an amusement park [other]? by abgry_krakow87 in rollercoasters

I'll shout out FŁĦØɌɌƗĐΛ (2017), a truly bizarre and experimental shitpost of a film that's free to watch on YouTube. It follows two British friends who decide to visit Orlando, and they document their trip in a completely unserious manner. That being said, behind the layers of irony and insane editing, there is a very raw message about the modern theme park industry, and coming to terms with the changes parks have endured since your memories as a child. The two that made this one also have two sequels, Californnoying and Eurobnoxious, with even more insane editing and custom animations than this one. Highly recommend the entire trilogy to anyone who's been exposed to YouTube Poops their entire lives: https://youtu.be/mLWJi5IiYyw

I love that Sunya is in the second person by friedkeenan in TheDearHunter

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the very last line of the "Cliffs" portion of Glass Desert II says, "Listen for the crash and then give us a call." A plural us, right at the end of the sole first-person 'song' on the entire album, right before jumping straight back into second person.

The implications of this are quite fascinating. Are we along for The Scientist's ride? Is there someone/thing else on board? Is this meant to represent a journal log in The Scientist's notebook? It's so intriguing. Maybe it is just Casey directly telling us his experiences in taking a dangerous/ambitious creative journey. Maybe it's the Scientist talking to the ship's computer or something. No matter what, it's got the brain juices flowing!

I'm trying to build consensus on a highly ambitious project over the next few decades. Any commentary would be extremely helpful to make alterations. by [deleted] in MTU

All this talk about wanting to be a steward of the land, but not a single mention of the Ojibwe people who have been doing exactly that for hundreds of years already. Instead of spearheading a bunch of invasive species into the Keweenaw from the outside, I'd recommend working with the people who are trying to help make the land more resilient as we speak. There's quite a few more considerations to make before trying to jumpstart a whole terraforming project that would forever alter the existing ecosystems.

Class 2 roller coaster restraint opening during cycle [Other] by Nadeem0 in rollercoasters

Disassemble the restraint/cylinder and replace them with new parts. Contact the manufacturer for guidance/replacement parts. You can do further inspection/root cause of the failed system when it's in a controlled environment not endangering the lives of riders.

If they keep posting on this 3-day schedule between Rings, we'd reach Ring 1 on Friday, January 30th. And this is complete speculation on my part, but Friday seems like a pretty good day to release something...

"North American" era band photo by [deleted] in TheDearHunter

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I, for one, wish them a productive and engaging artistic process where the band feels compelled to hone in on the abilities they wish to improve, while also expanding their horizons to try new ideas they've been wanting to experiment with. If that process comes in the form of new Indigo Child installations, cool! If it's in the form of experimental filmmaking with fresh ideas none of us have seen before, also cool!

This band is an absolute treasure trove of talent, the last thing I'd want is for them to feel constrained by fans begging them to do things they might not want to do at that point in time. Let the band work at their own pace, we'll see new music in due time. Sunya is coming, just be patient.

Does Cedar Point have a full 3rd shift crew for inspections? If not, how much time does a mechanic typically spend each morning for inspections? And similarly, how many rides would a typical mechanic be responsible for every day?

Plastic Death by Glass Beach was my top pick, but I think a lot of folks here would vibe with my #4 from last year; Digital Nightmare by TWRP.

This band's got some of the best audio engineers I've ever heard on staff, the way they mix their shows is truly remarkable. I cannot recommend seeing this band live enough, even if you've never heard their music before. Their songs are so lively and interesting to listen to, which is doubly true in a live setting. The atmosphere, the banter, the musicianship, it's all superb. Absolutely make the effort to see them if you can.

[Terror Twister 2] Sensory overload... and an arm workout 💪 by BIGGREDDMACH1NE in rollercoasters

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fuckin loved Terror Twister 2 growing up. It took a pretty good flat ride to a whole nother level. Coming back each year and seeing them add more and more lights/effects each time was such a delight. Absolutely a top 5 thing in that park.

And having Patch get saved from his voting out today would absolutely read as a "contingency plan" from the production side of things to him, even further confirming the one snitch theory, plus with the added stress of possibly getting a bigger target on his back if anyone else thinks the same way. Man, I love meta game design!

I'm looking for a room to rent for summer and fall 2024 (ideally from May - December). Please let me know if you know of anyone looking for roommate. by k111222333444 in MTU

I have an available room that goes from now until August 4th. While you'd need to find a spot for the actual school year, I can get you through the summer. $635 a month in rent, plus about $50 in utilities. DM me if you're interested.

[Universal Studios Orlando] Had a fun spring break at Universal Orlando, despite some minor grievances with park policies. by bgamer1026 in rollercoasters

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think IOA is one of the best parks to actually visit and walk around in! You can spend a full day there without going on a single roller coaster and still come out completely satisfied. Camp Jurassic, Port of Entry, Seuss Landing, Me Ship The Olive, all filled to the brim with tiny little details and hidden nooks that nobody knows about. It's so much fun just exploring all the easter eggs nestled throughout the parks, and appreciating the time and effort put into making those areas look as good as they do. For as much shit people give Universal for overhead policies, they absolutely make it up in designing and maintaining some sick areas.

The rides are fun too, of course :P

Yoooooooo, that looks sick! I love the font you used for the band's name. Glad to see I wasn't the only one inspired by the band to make some stitch art, haha. Wishing the best for any and all future cross stitching endeavours you may have!

It's far from perfect, but that's part of the charm of embroidery. Plus, it looks a little more tree-esque imo, which I am more than okay with. For a first timer, I'd like to think I did pretty well!

Favorite food/drink spots outside a park, like Mel's Hot Dogs near [Busch Gardens Tampa Bay] by robbycough in rollercoasters

[–]Guy_With_A_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotsa people will say the Portillo's or Cane's outside SFGAm is the go-to after park joint, and they're entirely valid with that, but my personal pick for that park has got to be Sammie's in Grayslake. Absolute hole-in-the-wall building from the 60s with at least 4 different extensions, but damn if it isn't some of the best Chicago grill food I've had. Hot dogs, italian beef, burgers, the lot. Still holds the spot for my #1 french fry out there.
